Hammer, are you trying to get your TM Warthog to feel just like the stick in the real Viper, or are you just trying to get a playable experience? The real thing moves about a millimeter (not firsthand knowledge -- got this from some random reddit post so source may or may not be credible). Maybe this is what you are looking for (disclaimer: I have not tried it) http://www.realsimulator.com/html/fssb.html Otherwise, the rest of us are just using no curves, or something in the range of +5 to -5 curve and just flying it like it's not a FSSB.

Turn it in to a vertical fight and make sure you are at minimum ~400 KCAS when you cross from level to climb, and about 250 to 300 KCAS coming over the top. You will gain a few degrees on the F-5 on each loop and eventually get the kill, but it takes a lot of time and fuel.

The post-launch countdown timer isn't implemented yet (for the DCS F-16C) according to an answer I got on another forum.

I'm having fun on it too. I would say WVR dogfighting is the most complete in the module, relatively speaking. Radar gunsight works, and AIM-9X + HMCS works. Aerial refueling is also complete as far as I can tell, and the F-16C fly by wire smooths things out for you a lot which makes it the easiest aircraft to refuel of the modules I own. It's fun to just practice landings too. I had never used the bracket system on the HUD before, because I'm used to the AoA cues that the A-10C or F-15C give. So yeah, there are things to practice while we wait for features to be added. I am actually fine with being forced to learn this jet in small chunks as they are released.

Sure, if you don't overfly the target then turn left. You're not wrong. If you overfly the target after bomb release then you are gonna have to keep a right bank.
-
I remember someone with experience in the A-10 remarking that you can't set the nose/tail fusing from the cockpit, nor can you set the laser code of a LGB from the cockpit (you can change the TGP's but not the bomb's). That was like 10 years ago and ED never changed it for the A-10C. Here's to hoping they listen for the F-16.

A2A BVR is not finished. The DLZ does not properly calculate Rpi and Rtr based on speed, altitude, aspect, etc. And you do not get a countdown timer to pitbull after firing an AIM-120, so you have to count in your head how long to hold your crank before going nose cold.

Yes, buddy lasing works between the F-16 and F-18. I have confirmed it works with the F-18 dropping a GBU-12 and the F-16 designating. I have not yet tried it the other way around. I also have not experimented with LSS yet. Edit: we have also successfully used code 1688, and also different codes like 1424 (both aircraft have to configure for it though).

@Gianky, assuming the Litening II pod is on your right hip, you should try flying straight and level or in a slight right turn after you drop your LGB. Turning left makes the angle worse for your TGP. If you are still having trouble, try flying at a higher altitude. 15,000 ft usually gives me plenty of time at quarter to half throttle for the bomb to hit its target before the TGP gets masked.

Just came here to say the training missions are pretty good. Thanks, ED.

This has happened to me as well. I'm relieved to hear that it might be a bug and not just 100% incompetence on my part.

Blackout sound effects when pulling small amount on negative Gs
Xavven replied to TacticalError's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
From what I've read, the typical limit for people is -2 G. However, this can be trained and aerobatic performances go up to -5 G. I don't remember where I read it, so for all I know that could be totally wrong. -
How do manage the throttle during air refueling?
Xavven replied to lee1hy's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
This is great advice. Also, you have to anticipate what your current throttle setting is going to do to the aircraft and proactively adjust. For example, let's say you're sliding forward too much. You reduce throttle, of course. This slows your rate of forward movement, until eventually you come to a stop (relative to the tanker). If you do nothing at this point, you are going to start sliding backwards. So usually you need to increase your throttle the moment you come to a stop so that you stay stopped. You'll get a feel for how much with practice. But you will never stay comfortable. Even if you are perfectly still right now, you're taking on 1000's of lbs of fuel and that very fact changes things. I notice that as I get fuel I need more and more throttle on average, but in extremely tiny increments over time. -
All great advice. I would add that with throttle inputs, you have to make them ahead of time compared to what you're seeing. For example, if I start getting to far forward, I reduce throttle, but more importantly, the moment my forward movement slows and stops, I am already increasing the throttle almost back to where it was in order to prevent me from sliding backwards and basically starting a PIO.

The bug was apparently introduced in the open beta. All good bombing advice. I realize this is a tangent, but I personally like the PBIL in the A-10C because it takes into account my bank. In the F-16 the PBIL is always perpendicular to the horizon, so any left-right error when I roll out is much harder to correct with roll inputs IMHO. Is this working as intended or just not feature complete?

Firstly, those are all valid points. Some people have different goals in playing DCS that makes those points not applicable in their case, though. Just like there's a "start up my jet for me" key combination. Some people do not care to learn the start up sequence. It's not possible to squish everyone into a single mold and force them to play DCS a certain way, and we shouldn't try.

Boresight radar lock for short range aim-120 launch
Xavven replied to launchedsquid's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
^ This is the correct answer ^ Personally I go ACM mode, TMS right for HUD scan, then long press of the NWS/MissileStep button to switch to AIM-120. Hold pickle button -- target dies. -
You can easily reproduce this problem by selecting stored heading alignment before you've given all the other avionics a chance to start up. To avoid this problem, flip all the switches on on the panel near the INS alignment knob, then wait a few seconds, THEN switch the knob to stored heading alignment. In addition, you know you started too early if you get to 1.5/10 on the INS page on the DED and RDY is NOT flashing. Start the alignment over. If you don't, then the instant you take off, your pitch ladder and TVV goes to the right like this (at least on the cold and dark instant action mission) If you get to 1.5/10 on the INS page and RDY IS flashing, then you know you did it right.

Oh wow... Does this affect the EEGS 5 pipper too? That explains why my tracking shot on my target's tail missed earlier tonight.

I agree with this. While I personally do find AAR really fun because it is challenging, it doesn't mean that it's fun for everybody. Also, IRL pilots have commented that having depth perception and being able to feel the acceleration of the aircraft helps a lot, and we don't get that in DCS (well VR users get the depth perception I guess). Just like how some people like starting EVERY SINGLE MISSION from a ramp start. Is starting in the air cheating? Or is it just a time saver for people who have busy lives?

Hi! I'm thinking about buying the F-18 when it's on sale again but I'm wondering if its radar can ground map yet. This is a feature I'm really excited about and would make or break my buying decision.

Agreed. Played caucuses last night and this morning and the graphics are a straight upgrade, and surprisingly my framerates are higher!

AIM-54 Effect on MP (now that we can test it in the sim)
Xavven replied to Xavven's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I'm not so sure that the final AIM-54 will be that overpowering in its final form, but it's hard to tell. At close to max range, a missile is low on energy and easy to trash. At least in DCS, this is certainly the case with the R-33 launched by the MiG-31, which outranges my AMRAAMs by tens of miles but that I can lazily evade with three level turns to 30 degree in either direction while keeping my own radar painting the bandit. At closer ranges of course I have to work harder, but at max range it's not hitting me unless I fly straight and level for the most part. The AIM-54 in its current form is, well, insane. The very first launch against you from max range, even after traveling about 50nm, has enough energy to require some serious diving, beaming, and G (6 to 9 G) to trash. At least today, a BVR engagement against an F-14 is ultra-hard-mode, but against a MiG-31 is really easy (at least with both on excellent AI) under even, head-on joust conditions of 60nm separation, 30,000 ft). Heatblur is not going for balance, but rather for realism, so this doesn't mean that the AIM-54 will end up performing like the R-33 does in DCS today, but my suspicion is that it won't be quite the killer it is now. I have no real world data to back up this suspicion -- just call it a hunch. -
AIM-54 Effect on MP (now that we can test it in the sim)
Xavven replied to Xavven's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Ah, thank you. Well in that case, my testing is not predictive of the final state of the F-14 + AIM-54 combo. Though I will say in its current state, the AIM-54 is much harder to outmaneuver than most AA missiles. There's not much else that I have to pull 9G in a split-s while beaming to trash. Not much point to this thread any longer -- this has already been covered elsewhere at length. -
AIM-54 Effect on MP (now that we can test it in the sim)
Xavven replied to Xavven's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Oh... do we have a placeholder right now that is not properly modeled? I thought heatblur had put in a realistic model based on a bunch of research (https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=191034). Is this in yet?
