  1. I thought it might, given that it commands an absolute position rather than a displacement. Ta very much, there was a practical reason I wanted to know ;)
  2. The F-14 Crew Chief voice when connecting and disconnecting the air - sounds awfully like the famous Bunyap. Is it just me ?
  3. I normally hate interacting with 'humans' that are really computer programs. I fully expected to switch Jester off after my first test hop in the F-14. But he's grown on me now to the point where I don't mind the little feller at all. How much use he is - that's debateable, but he's never too annoying.
  4. I don't usually like or trust Chinese machines ( despite owning a Sieg X2 ) but one of those is pretty tempting. I think I could make it pay for itself before it fell to pieces :D
  5. I wondered if it was spring loaded to a centre position, obviously not from how you describe it
  6. I've got a Sieg X2 mill but the idea of converting it to CNC doesn't appeal to me. I know myself too well - I'll probably go off on a tangent and end up with a half finished 10 axis tabletop machining centre :D I'll see if I can find some local engraving\CNC services that do hobby type work. I was hoping someone would have a tip for getting the process done with a home printer - but realistically that was never going to work for white on black. Thanks anyway guys :)
  7. MP most days, for an hour or two I've owned the F-14 for roughly three weeks Never aerobatics, but I generally avoid servers with large numbers of players because I'm still at the learning stage with the F-14
  8. Yes, that's right - for switch panels. I was hoping that laser engraving wasn't going to be the answer ;)
  9. Is the real world RIO's radar control stick biased to the centre position ?
  10. I haven't had a single crash - and all I've been flying recently is the F-14 - which isn't to disagree with the OP, just reporting my experience.
  11. White on black text basically. What are the best ways to produce it ? What do people use ?
  12. Very interesting site. I've just ordered a couple of Arduino Leonardo's to interface some real aircraft hardware to DCS.
  13. Derail away, I've got enough answers to think about now :)
  14. I didn't know TWS Auto was knackered....or what in particular is wrong with it. Despite Spicemans best YouTube tutorial efforts I'm not all that familiar with the AWG-9. Radar is very bloody complicated. The only other modern A2A module I have is the Mirage and I usually load 4 heat seekers with that and hope I survive to the merge. Mostly I'm flying multiplayer so I don't have access to the Tomcats rear seat for some reason - so I just wait until 30 miles ( because it seems a nice round number ) and then shoot at whatever Jester has bugged for me. Then I run away :D I did try getting him to STT targets but the missile still doesn't hit. I've got all the front office switchology correct, what happens back there is down to him :D
  15. Both, but not multiplayer PvP as yet, I'm only engaging AI flown aircraft. I did wonder if it was the missiles behaviour but I never put anything down to being a modules fault unless I know for sure there's a bug. Absolutely outstanding YouTube tutorials by the way, I'm a subscriber :)
  16. Yep, it's all warmed up and ready to chomp on a MiG. I activate both heat and radar missiles before takeoff. ( I know the Sidewinder has a limited coolant supply but I also know I'll be shot down long before it runs out :D )
  17. I am getting no luck whatsoever with the AIM-54 - I'm firing at about 30nm versus head on fighter targets and while the TID ( or whatever the hell it's called ) repeater in the front seat shows time to go and I keep the nose on the target until the missile goes active - no hits. It'll probably be something I am doing wrong, but I'm not sure what.
  18. Thanks, that should be very handy....
  19. Is there any way to extract data from DCS for lights and indicators ? be nice if there was. The stores display looks electromechanical, a bit like the 'dollseyes' used in UK military aircraft. It would probably be possible to make them work with a bit of effort and probably a 28v supply.
  20. Imagine the geopolitical implications if Al-Bhundee got his hands on a piece of metal with a few lights and switches on it - doesn't bear thinking about :D
  21. It's amazing what you can find. I bought an INS control unit from an unknown military ( probably naval ) aircraft last week. Making it work with DCS will be an interesting challenge due to the mechanical design of the switches. The Lat\Lon display is missing but I've got no idea if it's even possible to get that working. Currently in the UK there are a lot of Tornado switch and display panels available, some brand new old stock, if anyone fancies waiting for one of those to arrive in DCS. The prices aren't bad, it's flight instruments that seem to fetch large amounts of money.
  22. The head position camera ( or whatever it's called - the Rctrl Rshft Numpad one ) in the F14 pilots seat is working fine from the keyboard, but not when I map it to a hat switch on my joystick. It's probably something I am doing wrong, but what ? any ideas ?
  23. Looks like a good way to proceed - I am just going to create two of the RIO panels\ sub units - whatever they are called - though.
  24. You Sir, are a Prince amongst men, ta very much. Saved me a s**t ton of work trying to figure it out myself...
  25. Brilliant, I didn't know the panels had a standard width, that makes life a lot simpler and makes some design decisions possible. Which is handy, because I just spent £150 on Ebay for the hardware I'll need - may the Lord have mercy on my soul :D
