There's always this ONE GUY.......LOL! Personally, I've been running at HUD REJ2, less to worry about. "Use the force Luke." - Some old dusty dude.

Tried adjusting the curves? Maybe you need the slider option.

+1 JA-11 should be lumped in with the 29, 27 and 33

INS ground align needs LAT/LONG, Mag Var. and HDG. Elevation is not required. INS Sea only needs the Ground Power on. An extra cable is attached, put her into SEA align and wait. Manually enter in waypoints while aligning is ok, but messing with TCN or AWLS during align will give you gremlins.

Good gravy..... the zero is assumed and not present? So......... 0 - 0 - 1 = 10 feet? 0-1-0 = 100 ft and 1-0-0 = 1000 ft? I gotta know cuz it's a big deal with Snakeyes.

I'm not surprised a Firefly reference changed the direction of a Harrier forum. Ok, so..... AUTO flaps will react to airspeed and gear. IDK, but they might move when the gear goes down, DEFINITY as airspeed decreases. It's handy for....something.... STOL flaps tho...... react to nozzles and gear. Case 1 recovery, 350 knots. (Have water/VTOL modes set first) Enter the turn, Cut throttle, set flaps to STOL. Flaps set to 25. Lower gear at 250, flaps stay at 25. Nozzle angle starts changing flap angle at 165 knots Set nozzles to about 30 ish. (right on is not important at this point) speed hits 165 knots and when you adjust the nozzles, the flaps react too. EDIT: I confirmed, setting STOL flaps = 25deg. With gear up. T.Y Nealius There is soo much more to a Case 1 recovery. I only used it because it is when I figured out Flaps. To sum up my time in the harrier (Since Pre purchase) 20 percent weapons delivery, 80 percent STOL/VTOL practice. Mind you I am not the quickest car on the track....

One thing I do that helps is the Pre-flight check. Some things may be missing still that have not been modeled but it is very few. Start at the back left with the DECS switch, EFC Pos 1, Lights as desired, Fuel switches on/normal (x3) Rudder shaker to on, Anti-skid on, flaps to cruise, DMT on (off if using TPOD) the switch next to DMT to mid, all dials off, Hud rej, Night/Day as desired ( Auto does not work yet??? I never use it) Radar alt as desired, EWS on, CMS as desired but at very least AUTO, battery on, Radio to TR-Gaurd, interior lights as desired, rear intruments something to on and adjust the dial to AUTO, (not needed) Check warning lights, (next to interior lights) turn off MC, DECS on, striped handle down, OXY on, Eng. start, immediately go to throttle, bump to idle, engage throttle cut off, flip the canopy lever check light, return canopy lever, close canopy, turn on engine management light as desired, at 8% bump throttle back to idle, set all dials as desired, when GEN light goes out turn on flaps, turn on gear light, check probe, dbl check oxygen. Easy as pie! LOL! INS needs aligned (thats a different monster but not bad) Select fuel and arms, select takeoff based on weight, wind, land, sea. My point is to make the pre flight check each time. It greatly reduces a non-start + gets you familliar with the pit.

Well I Got The Harrier In The Sale, And I`m Glad I Did
Mecrutio replied to EcosseFlyer's topic in AV-8B N/A
You're not standing on the pickle button. If you're dropping multiple ordinance you gotta hold the button until completion. Otherwise you will end up with compromised munition and the Harrier pulls a safety. No more release of that type of weapon. Adjust the curves for hover flight. Throttle then stick. CCIP cross is accurate when solid, I never use CCRP, even with GBU's. I hope you enjoy it! I haven't even touched the Hornet yet. -
HUD Reject? UFC, BTM left most switch. I've been fiddling with that during VL's Parking Brake on during align? Sometimes updates change start up switch positions. Ground Power Connected? IDK if it matters... If nothing is working, what is possible is the fast start procedure. Throw the INS switch to the INS/GPS position (Far right position) I think it takes 2-3 minutes, but you don't need to sit still. Now you're on GPS alone, no INS. I know it's not right, but it will get you out and combat ready.

Yeah, looks good. Ppl before me said it best. ALTHOUGH... all the spit and polish in the world does not help with terminating an S-300 site using Snakeyes. Yeah... thats right... I'm the one who takes the prom queen mud boggin' before prom. Seriously tho, seeing RAZBAM make the little things important gives me great confidence that the larger aspects are going thu, have gone thu the same level of scrutiny. Once again, Thank You.

 Noice. See you onboard. Another thing to practice is the Variable Nozzle Slow Landing. It's in the DCS Manual. What happens is that you leave the power set ( depending on weight ) and adjust the nozzles to control AOA and drop speed. Stick still controls airspeed. I'm not any good at it, but it helps with fixed nozzle landings. For instance, If I find I'm chasing the carrier or slowing down too fast, just 5 - 10 deg nozzle adjustment and i'm back on track.
-
Maybe it has to be that way. I haven't dug this deep on other modules. Are their FF different as described above? I'm thinking like when RU annexed Crimea, the peninsula was revised to include.... nothing. Are devs required to use altered data? Since the NATOPS is public I imagine not, but Google Maps still shows the peninsula.
-
For me, I started with short landings. Line up, slow down, nozzles at 60, weight dictates speed, keep 9-10 AOA, AFC is your friend until 60 - 40 knots, boom. Power changes AOA, Stick changes speed and VVL. Add wind. have it going parallel with the runway you wish to use. (5 - 8 knots ground) Set the temp to 10c. When you're satisfied with SL, start sneaking the nozzles back during SL. Do a couple of runs at nozzles 70, a couple at 75 and so on. The reason for this is to learn how to react during the transition from wing borne, to jet borne to hover. One of the best pieces of advice I got so far was to slap her around. When she gets squirrely jam the stick/rudder just once and she straightens up. But this does require practice. Easier said than done IMO. Another thing to take into consideration are the curves. At hover, no loadout, 500lbs fuel and your only gonna work between 7-10% rpm to adjust height and drop speed. Quite honestly I think most of the work is around 4-6% rpm. Either way, adjust the curve to your taste keeping in mind the above statement. After I adjusted the throttle, I put a moderate curve on the Pitch and Roll. I probably need a bit more as I am still getting pilot induced oscillations, but kicking this mule upside the head is getting results. I think I sound like im giving orders. I'm not. It's what I did and I'm damn near good. FYI I had to repair after a VL a couple of days ago so you have company in that stat. I'm always practicing too. This bird is a challenge.

I read the same article of the OP. I believe the statement was a coy reference to frequent use of the AFC. I'm not too skilled with it yet but I agree with the Harrier pilot.
-
I think I've read that one too. I figure he's using liberal amounts of AFC. I do anyway. 12x GBU-12s @ angels 23 I'm engaged with AFC, pickle, wait like 3 or4 seconds then egress. I never notice an asymmetrical load. Now I notice with Mk 83's, but only when banking. Same with snakeyes. Except I'm in AFC up to 2 miles out, disengage AFC, slight pop up, about 2 deg. down when engaging the objective and all is good on the egress.
-
I usually roll with 30 deg. nozzle. 60 when onboard ship. You could try less nozzle angle... but I'm finding more taxi control with this change. Also I'm not sure if the flaps getting cooked has been modled or not. Avoid lowering flaps with less than 25 deg. nozzle. I do know that chief doesn't mind R&R with 82 degrees. Lol!
-
RAZBAM updated the engine power at the lower band of power. You may notice about a 10% increase in power needed to maneuver up to about mid RPM range. And slow switches.
-
@Eldur - Always gets me in trouble at that moment of STO stop transition. Thanks from myself to all ppl giving hints. My carrier landings are getting better. Now I set the nozzle stop at 82 ish and never touch it. Transitioning to abeam needs work. I'm always high or low. Yeah, thank god for wind! ARBS figures it out well enough. I'm still diggin into the rudder thru the 90. I end up putting in too much yaw and loose the AOA. And now we have permission to slap it around! She obviously does not like to play nice. And thanks to the guy who thought it would be cool to flop a big 'ol OCD trigger with adjusting the Engine power at the lower end. Mah throttle is naught rite. :joystick:

Mk20 Rockeye feels lack luster for sure. Accurate application does not increase its effectiveness. However the Ruskie PTAB munition is comparable. If one has spent some time in the A-10 and now learning the AV-8B it is difficult to get comfortable with the different vintage of ordinance. But I've been flying the toad for a while and have always been envious of the A-10's effectiveness with cluster bombs. My first Drop of the Mk20 reminded me of a PTAB. Considering the accuracy of the flight model I think we may dealing with vintage vs. expectation. B.T.W, thanks for this bird. The 6 yr. old in me is burnin' cookies. :)

Does DCS World benefit from more than 16GB Ram?
Mecrutio replied to StefVR's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
 I have been monitoring my RAM for the last few days. (appologies to the last few Msgs, I stopped reading at pg. 3) Starting out, 2.7GB in use on a 16GB system. Gotta have background programs running. Today I finally paid for permission to fly in the Persian Gulf. My rig runs up to 15.9GB online and crashes. In single player, ( Gulf map ) She runs up to 15.9... then drops to 12 (ish) GB. My point is that where we have a 16GB total system, DCS needs all of it. I doubt our systems can operate with 0 RAM in use. Caucus, Nevada, Normandy all run ok on 16GB total. The Gulf needs more tho. And I'm thinkin a 500GB SSD with all supporting programs on it. Vulkan sounds promising for Multipule GPU's..... wishful thinking from the owner of AMD CPU and GPU. I don't know. I have no money to throw at this. Just thoughts. (P.S. Nevada, Normandy, Caucus online never crash, Mission Editor Gulf map is void of additional units with exception of the AV-8B I flew) -
** DCS: F-14 Development Update - September!! **
Mecrutio replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Thank you to the entire Heatblur Team!!!!!!!!! From hand placing screws in exact positions to the Kenny Logins nod in the theme music, to me it feels like the crafting of a monument to childhood dreams. I can't wait to blast off CAT1, pull up to 90 and see how far she goes. I watched a pilot do this in the Persian Gulf. (Fully loaded for camel) After the OOOH's and AAAHHH's from my watch team in the wheel house, OOD piped up...... " DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL THAT COST HIM?! " :megalol: -
OMG. The Gods of Simulated Aviation are watching. Posted today, Vulkan® 1.1.86 - A Specification Not for the feint of heart. Heavy reading and lots of it. Script Kiddies are required to wear bibs to help prevent the drool from disturbing others. I posted this the moment I found it. It could give clues. It could be BS. All I know is that I'd rather read ISO standards. Edit #3; Chapters 7 - Renders, 8 - Shaders and 9 - Pipelines...... where's that barf emoji.... no for real... I admit right here and now I'm not reading this. This could be more for reference.

Skatezilla's statement was made around a month before the article was posted. I should find a recent article and see if Skatezilla's statement still rings true.

Regarding the question about sinking $ into ANOTHER high end rig, I'm gonna bet on the mGPU support. Vulcan 1.1 Release article from arstechnica It's interesting to note that DX12 will supposedly support non-similar mGPU's where Vulkan does not. Up until the above article I don't see this as an issue as thru my own research its been standard to utilize similar GPUs in SLI/CROSSFIRE.

[REPORTED] Liveries stay the same from inside cockpit
Mecrutio replied to ams999's topic in Liveries/Skinning
Along the same lines as the OP, when adding a new livery to the Su-33, the IRST does not change to the new livery from inside the pit. Any idea's on how to change this? I was lazy and didn't arm the IR headset to look over the dash and see if the whole nose was blue. :pilotfly:
