  1. You need enough airspeed to pull a maximum G turn for a few seconds. Try a low altitude horizontal or slice turn from 1100 km/h or faster. You have to hold wheel brake button down throughout the turn. Observe the G value from external view, pay special attention to the peak highest G value! In-cockpit G meter is too inaccurate to easily notice the difference, and blackout will prevent seeing it also. The turn must be done with the stick fully back, otherwise you are not pulling max G! if you still can't see it, i can post a track later ;)
  2. Out of curiosity.. does the Su-27 wheel brake button/lever/whatever also function IRL as it does in the sim? As some of you certainly know using the wheel brake while pulling a lot of G gives you a little extra G (around 1 G), increasing the risk of blackout, but this turn is smooth and thus not as energy expensive as hitting the S key and pulling a crazy turn. Certainly a useful feature in a dogfight. I don't remember this ever being mentioned anywhere, I heard this from some russian DCS pilot and was shocked at first. For those who don't believe me... and I'm sure some of you don't... try it out and see for yourselves! ;)
  3. The lack of tree collision was an... odd design choice to begin with. Even the original IL-2 had tree collisions modeled. (although in that case you would often collide into invisible trees because they were just comprised of horizontally leveled textures, thus invisible from the side :D)
  4. If the flanker is fully fueled, not to mention loaded with bombs, dont expect to do hard maneuvers and still have it under control :)
  5. Adjust joystick axis curvatures and deadzones to values that give you most stable aim.
  6. Lol :) I know what you mean Frostie. But drawing a line between what's an exploit and what's not can be difficult sometimes, and people have differing opinions about these. Personally I have nothing against "powerplaying", using all advantages possible provided by the game, realistic or not, since I lean towards that approach myself. So I'm more gamer, less simmer, so what? :) Powerplaying is not cheating. If there are exploits, using these should be forbidden in server rules. If there is a feature that is not realistic, that is not my problem, just a lacking in the game. Of course even I draw a line somewhere: abusing things like the air refueling bug are obviously out of the question :) And to Winchester I know you weren't serious I just used your comment to make a point :P I don't want to be overly negative but the fact is many people who complain about these "exploits" and how they can be unfair and so on... use mods! Mods that affect graphics, visibility, audio, cockpits etc. In my opinion mods can really provide an unfair advantage to players, yet they seem to be perfectly accepted within the community, many going unchecked in integrity checks.

While flying A-10C is nice and all, it doesn't teach you much about modern air-to-air. If you really want to learn.. start flying regularly on for example 104th server, hang out on teamspeak, talk to people, then after a few months you'll probably notice that you've got the hang of the basics ;)
  8. If you want to learn dogfighting, I can teach. I'm almost tireless, I can spar as long as you have stamina for (3 hours straight no problem), analyze flights in tacview, and tell what needs improving. I cannot teach real life procedures though, that is not my focus. My focus is solely on blowing up the bandit as effectively as possible :) PM me if interested...
  9. Hi and welcome :) Be prepared for a steep(actually infinite) learning curve in air to air combat and you'll be fine. Also I recommend asking people about things a lot. There are many many unwritten secrets about game specific functionalities alone, that are nowhere to be found except hearsay. On the other hand, don't take what people say at face value. Instead, test to see if it's true! There are many people eager to help, and among the correct information there is always some false information floating around ;)
  10. This is untrue. When flying at low altitude it is most often enough to simply react to a launch warning, turn tail to the missile and run. This works unless the missile was fired from closer than pitbull range. Now at medium or high altitude you definitely want to anticipate any TWS shots before you get a warning..
  11. What puzzles me is why should anyone feel "guilty" about flying the sim the way they want to fly. To some people it seems very important that others play the game the way they want it to be played. :)
  12. So much advice here.. I try keep it simple three-step approach aim-120 defense: 1) Turn back and run away, fly as low as possible. If not feasible, go to step 2. 2) Put missile on beam(3 o clock or 9 o clock), fly as low as possible, spam chaff. If not feasible, go to step 3. 3) Pull a lot of G, keep spamming chaff, and pray to your god.
  13. Stealth your way into the middle of the group, then rip them up with your fierce dogfighting skills. The ensuing chaos may give you just enough time to even kill 3 of them in a furball. Remember they may avoid firing aim120s to avoid teamkilling their wingmen. Good stealth advice was already given, in addition I recommend heavy use of vertical scan as the main sensor. If the terrain has some hills, this can actually be done. But if it's flat terrain, you really need a lot of luck to survive a 1v3 confrontation..
  14. I haven't asked my team mates about this yet, but I would certainly like to fly in this today. Do I need to register or is 104th registered automatically?
  15. Yes exactly, 1v1 slots are needed. 2v2 and 4v4 are less popular and require more coordinated participation to begin with so they are ok i think ;)
  16. Yeah those AI helicopters do fight back, and they detect missile launches superhumanly well. About the missile evasion well there are many ways to break the missile lock. Things that contribute to breaking a radar missile lock -chaff -beaming(putting missile on 3 o clock or 9 o clock) -ground clutter(fly lower than the bad guy/missile! -flying below minimum tracking altitude(fly even lower! Doesn't apply to active radar homing missiles) Things that contribute to breaking IR missile lock: -flares -front aspect (if it's coming from the front, that's best. If it's coming from behind, that's worst, because the missile sees your engine heat) -throttle position. No afterburner is better, idle is best. Now in addition to these, you can try bleed the missile's energy by hard maneuvering throughout the missile's approach (more G is better, faster airspeed is better), causing it to miss, or if its far enough away, just turn run away(this is often safest!). Or combining running away and hard maneuvering by flying a snaking pattern away from the missile. Or you could force the missile to fly into the ground by using terrain like mountains or even on flat terrain. As you see there are many ways to avoid missiles :)
  17. From what i understood from testing, the server supports only one modern-era fight at a time. I think this is way too little since people leave if the only slot is occupied. So yeah more slots would be very nice..
  18. Why not make the mod optional and just advertise it on briefing page for example? Any mandatory mod may decrease the population considerably. But it works flawlessly so far, I really like it. Let's hope for more players in the future ;) After a few F-15 gun fights i must say i'm not sure if full internal fuel is good, it makes the fight a little heavy :) maybe 2/3 or half fuel would be better? But this is a matter of taste obviously..
  19. Wow, sounds and looks fantastic. If there's enough players, i just may have found my new home :)
  20. Tovivan, if you fly on a public server, getting good scores with the Su27 against F-15s is really not a problem. IRST, vertical scan, R-27ET, R-73, maneuverability, helmet sight. All these are great advantages.
  21. Multi launch does provide the occasional double kill. More rare treats also happen, like triple kill or quadruple kill. Usually when the target formation is fully focused on formation flying shortly after takeoff rather than scanning for threats :)
  22. Important pointer: AI is superhumanly good at detecting IR missile launches. Combine this with the fact that flares work very well in DCS nowadays, and the hit ratio is inevitably low against AI aircraft. Now against human players it's a different story ;)
  23. You're not serious are you :) it's heavy when fully loaded and fueled but when a bit lighter it certainly spanks any other aircraft that dares dogfight it..
  24. Hehee.. It is true that if you catch a flanker "with its pants down", meaning low, slow (~500km/h), and heavy (say 6-9 tons of fuel), it is actually quite bad at a merge. Flanker pilot must be ready for the merge.. fast enough, and not too heavy, then eagle gets shot down ~99% of the time ;)
  25. Both! You will be more successful in combat if you know the enemy's system as well as your own. This is part of why I don't believe in dedicating fully to just one aircraft. The other part is versatility: if you only fly one aircraft, you might get stuck in your habits in it, and your development as a fighter pilot overall is less efficient. If you fly many planes, you better develop a more general feel for flight and combat, which is even more useful when things change or you want to fly a new aircraft.
