  1. The VEAO podcast was outstanding!
  2. Gerry Abbott (FISH) does a brilliant job with all of his tutorials. The navigation videos are no exception. I believe there are 4 parts. I HIGHLY suggest viewing them all.
  3. Mine also switched back to AAT 03 as well.
  4. I heard the message at the FENCE CHECK. When I got to WP 4 I did not hear ANY message. On one attempt, after passing through WP 4, I circled back again to be sure that I hit it exactly. Still no joy. It could very well be me and most likely is, but I've never really had a problem finding smoke on the deck before.
  5. I'm having a problem with AFT 04, which appears to be a very simple mission. Both in the practice mission and the qualification mission, it doesn't appear that the target is triggered. Once I arrive at the IP, there is no direction from the FE. That's no problem so I tried to call in but the only F10 option I have is, "One, copy." I look for red smoke but it doesn't appear. The elevation for WP 5 is 8000. So I start looking with my eyes and the TGP but no joy. There are no specific TOTs in the brief with the exception of takeoff time. I didn't know if it was me or if the new update may have changed something.

    Carrier Ops

Looking forward to it as I'm on your server just about every night. Thanks.

    Carrier Ops

Like most of you, I'm looking forward to the release of the F/A18E as well as carrier ops. Forgive my ignorance, but will carrier ops be available in multi-player? I'm guessing that a small number of players could be accommodated. However, in the case of servers hosting several players (e.g. 104th Phoenix), how would that be accomplished? Carrier ops isn't a deal breaker for me by any stretch. I'm looking forward to the next few months of DCS.
  8. When I experienced the shaking, the winds were 3 m/s; slight crosswind.
  9. You're not alone. I've experienced the same thing as well as another that I flew with on a MP server earlier today.
  10. I had updated yesterday and thought I was current. I was having the same issues connecting to MP servers last evening. I ran the manual update and discovered there was an additional update. I would give the manual update a try.

    Pilot Body

It has nothing to do with FPS for me. I just don't like the cartoonish look the body has.

    Pilot Body

I don't have pilot body checked on OPTIONS but it still appears in the SU27. Is there a key command to remove it?

    Pilot Body

Does ED plan on adding pilot bodies to other aircraft in the future as they've done in the SU27? I myself STRONGLY prefer no pilot body. If so, I would suggest that it be optional. Let me rephrase that, I beg that it be made optional.
  14. Thanks for your time on this reply. I've been trying to keep the lead aircraft in the left triangle area next to the HUD which is causing me problems. You mentioned keeping visual in the HUD. That does make things easier. I guess I was trying for something more like an airshow formation. I'm just trying to pass.
  15. Formation flying BFT11 Anyone have any tips. I've been practicing this mission for an embarrassingly long time. I have definitely improved but my formation turns are still below standard. I know there's no easy answer just looking for some tips that may have helped others.
  16. I have had that happen occasionally in multiplayer. I needed to exit and re-enter a different aircraft. I've never had it happen in single player.
  17. Another thing to check, particularly if you restarted your router. Be sure that the IP that the port is forwarded to is accurate. I've had a problem after a router restart when my IPv4 was changed..... IPCONFIG from the command prompt.
  18. That's good news. I fly with a few guys occasionally and none of us are mission builders. We are running out of options. The Enemy Within looks very interesting. Even though I prefer MP, I'll definitely download the campaign and give it a crack. Thanks for your time on it.
  19. As a non-mission designer, I'm curious.....and a little worried. As excited as I am about new scenery and aircraft on the horizon, I wonder if mission designing willbe less frustrating? The new software will still be updated periodically and I assume will have a similar effect on missions that were developed prior to its release. I certainly understand why many stopped creating new missions. What, if anything will change with the new scenery regarding mission development? Won't the same frustrations apply? And if so, is there any hope of a resurgence in mission development that will outlive the initial novelty and enthusiasm of a new theater of operation? We are nowhere without great missions.
  20. I would love to see something similar to VATSIM (FSX) employed wherein human controllers are at work monitoring multiple airfields. The more realistic, the better. I agree with FAKUM....I use ATC to alert other players of my intentions. I know there are many players that turn ATC off. I just turn the volume down on the radio so I'm not bothered by the annoying quirks of ATC in its current state.
  21. As I work my way through the final Mapleflag BFT POs, I'm thinking how cool they would have been conducted at NTTR.
  22. I don't know what the military regulations would be, however from a US FAA perspective: The Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM). 4-3-23. Use of Aircraft Lights a. Aircraft position lights are required to be lighted on aircraft operated on the surface and in flight from sunset to sunrise. In addition, aircraft equipped with an anti-collision light system are required to operate that light system during all types of operations (day and night). However, during any adverse meteorological conditions, the pilot-in-command may determine that the anti-collision lights should be turned off when their light output would constitute a hazard to safety (14 CFR Section 91.209). Supplementary strobe lights should be turned off on the ground when they adversely affect ground personnel or other pilots, and in flight when there are adverse reflection from clouds. b. An aircraft anti-collision light system can use one or more rotating beacons and/or strobe lights, be colored either red or white, and have different (higher than minimum) intensities when compared to other aircraft. Many aircraft have both a rotating beacon and a strobe light system. c. The FAA has a voluntary pilot safety program, Operation Lights On, to enhance the see-and-avoid concept. Pilots are encouraged to turn on their landing lights during takeoff; i.e., either after takeoff clearance has been received or when beginning takeoff roll. Pilots are further encouraged to turn on their landing lights when operating below 10,000 feet, day or night, especially when operating within 10 miles of any airport, or in conditions of reduced visibility and in areas where flocks of birds may be expected, i.e., coastal areas, lake areas, around refuse dumps, etc. Although turning on aircraft lights does enhance the see-and-avoid concept, pilots should not become complacent about keeping a sharp lookout for other aircraft. Not all aircraft are equipped with lights and some pilots may not have their lights turned on. Aircraft manufacturer's recommendations for operation of landing lights and electrical systems should be observed. d. Prop and jet blast forces generated by large aircraft have overturned or damaged several smaller aircraft taxiing behind them. To avoid similar results, and in the interest of preventing upsets and injuries to ground personnel from such forces, the FAA recommends that air carriers and commercial operators turn on their rotating beacons anytime their aircraft engines are in operation. General aviation pilots using rotating beacon equipped aircraft are also encouraged to participate in this program which is designed to alert others to the potential hazard. Since this is a voluntary program, exercise caution and do not rely solely on the rotating beacon as an indication that aircraft engines are in operation. e. Prior to commencing taxi, it is recommended to turn on navigation, position, anti*collision, and logo lights (if equipped). To signal intent to other pilots, consider turning on the taxi light when the aircraft is moving or intending to move on the ground, and turning it off when stopped or yielding to other ground traffic. Strobe lights should not be illuminated during taxi if they will adversely affect the vision of other pilots or ground personnel. f. At the discretion of the pilot*in*command, all exterior lights should be illuminated when taxiing on or across any runway. This increases the conspicuousness of the aircraft to controllers and other pilots approaching to land, taxiing, or crossing the runway. Pilots should comply with any equipment operating limitations and consider the effects of landing and strobe lights on other aircraft in their vicinity. g. When entering the departure runway for takeoff or to “line up and wait,” all lights, except for landing lights, should be illuminated to make the aircraft conspicuous to ATC and other aircraft on approach. Landing lights should be turned on when takeoff clearance is received or when commencing takeoff roll at an airport without an operating control tower.
  23. I would suggest valet parking......but that's just me.
  24. If you are looking for human sacrifices, I have an ex-wife that I might be able to steer your way......just saying.
