  1. No, the only idiots are the ones who buy first gen hardware to play beta software with currently horrible optimization, with the inability to read fine detail in cockpit or identify aircraft at distance, staring through artifactual lenses and cheese grater tunnel vision. But muh "immersion"! Enjoy spending a few hundred more dollars on the next gen, guys! Best of luck in selling your old hardware for more money than you paid for your depreciating "investment". Opportunity cost?? You could have saved the money to buy better hardware and you could have waited for maturation of the DCS engine. I feel especially bad for all the people you duped in this forum to buy first gen hardware right before next gen is coming out.
  2. LOL @ all the CV1 owners! This version looks so much better than the original. Pimax 8k still seems like the best though.
  3. I'm planning on getting the BFGD. I think the size combined with 4k resolution make it a practical solution for DCS's issues with identification of aircraft at distance. It's like having a 1080p monitor but much improved pixel density, and the true presence of feeling like you're in the cockpit. It would be much better solution than VR actually since you don't have the visual artifacts of the lenses or screen door effect. And you can actually use the display for other things besides gaming.
  4. Yeah, I tried it all and was underwhelmed by all the current VR solutions. I haven't deluded myself in thinking low resolution hashed pixelated tunnel vision is all that great. 4k screens blow VR out of the water.
  5. Video cards are not investments. It will have a negative return on "investment" the moment you open the box. You should wait to purchase a video card until the 1180 comes out.
  6. Wowza! Imagine what could happen once DCS enables multi-threading in the future!
  7. The last part of that quote gets to the real solution: BFGD. 60-65 inches of 4k at 120Hz with Gsync should give you the "life-size" dimensions we all should expect from DCS.
  8. Touching on BitMaster's reply, I think in general we need to wait to see what the next gen processors are capable of, and we also need to know how important it will be to have a processor with multiple cores for the future DCS versions. Multi-core could be crucial if DCS becomes significantly multi-threaded.
  9. ED can't fix a purely hardware based problem. Current generation VR goggles have insufficient resolution and too much screen door effect to be compensated for by software. The best you can hope for is waiting to see how display technology advances over the coming years.
  10. i7 9700K or Ryzen 2800x Nvidia 1180Ti Lots of RAM.
  11. It looks like the island has a steep vertical drop from the shoreline, rather than a gradual fade out. I don't know what it's supposed to look like though.
  12. Vulkan will make performance in DCS many times better, the switch can't come too soon!
  13. The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality headset developed and manufactured by Oculus VR, a division of Facebook Inc., released on March 28, 2016.
  14. You should cancel your order if you can, the Vive Pro is a better product. If you don't like HTC, Pimax offers a better option than the old Oculus hardware you went with.
  15. Hold off on upgrading. #1: DCS 2.5 is very much in beta, and to have a truly awesome experience, you should expect software that behaves as you expect. Think about plane-spotting visibility WIP, optimizations WIP, graphic performance enhancements WIP. #2: Current Rift hardware is antiquated by today's standards. Horrible screen-door effect, lens distortions, and poor performance (<90 FPS) with current GPU/CPU hardware. If you want the best experience, you need to wait for next gen Rift/Google or just get a Vive 2.0. #3: Next gen CPUs and GPUs are literally months away, and upgrading to an old processor which still suffers from security lapses by Intel is a very short-sighted plan. Don't listen to the curmudgeons on this forum who say you should buy old hardware at the end of release cycles. Makes no sense at all.
  16. Probably decreased demand because next gen tech is almost out.
  17. Probably user registration. If you're trying to buy 5 cards directly from manufacturer, they won't allow it, unlike the main distributors that sell whatever quantity an individual orders.
  18. Good luck getting a card for MSRP right now. At least in the future, Nvidia has committed to selling more cards directly to consumer gamers instead of miners. I think chances are better to get MSRP instead of over MSRP.
  19. On what basis do you make your statement? Next gen tech is literally months away. Keep in mind Pascal is already 2 years old.
  20. Vulkan much better than proprietary Windows-only APIs. The support can't come soon enough.
  21. Just wait for the next gen right around the corner.
  22. There is no public announcement from Nvidia, the article is pure speculation. A better prediction would be that Nvidia is worried about a crash in second hand prices of Pascal gpus, which would decrease demand for new Pascal gpus. To increase growth forward, Nvidia will have to double down on next gen investments and push their release earlier so that people keep buying new cards to upgrade to.
  23. Exactly, which is why I don't get why people are shelling out top dollars for previous generation hardware for DCS, even though the engine still has a ton of improvements yet to go. Heck, Hornet isn't even out yet.
  24. Just wait, 2080 is around corner.
  25. You really only have one x4 that is divided in half with the two SSD.
