If I understand this correctly, the plastic part cannot be screwed onto the metal nut of the grip? Maybe that is too easy of a solution, but maybe it is just the plastic center pipe that collides with the plug of the grip? You actually have to do some cutting to get everything to fit properly. Shameless self advertisement, maybe this helps you? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=153088

F-18 grip, WARTHOG compatible
Viersbovsky replied to hegykc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I really do not want to litter this thread, but: -An additional button on the front, so you can mimic the Sukhoi and Mig Layouts. I liked that about the X52 over the Warthog actually. - One of the 3 way switches latches to forward position (aitbrake), but not the other way. That is very specific, I cannot find much use for it otherwise. The other is a two way that latches, the other is momentary. They also feel quite awkward to use. I really prefer pushbuttons or momentary switches. May be personal preference, I really don't like it and it always a hassle to find a proper setup for my modules. - Pinky buttons on the grip are great, yes. On the throttle, there is one pinky button (the red one), and I cannot reach that button without contorting my hand. Pushing that button has also at one point caused me to "unhinge" my tendon! Not comfortable in the slightest, so there is no way I can use this for often used commands. Also once again, rotaries. I want some buttons for my left thumb to operate. The comms switch is nice, but it will almost always be set for Teamspeak. I like to go by a "left hand does control the mode, right hand executes" regime. By using pushbuttons on the throttle I set a mode like sensors, weapons etc and then use the stick to do that. That cannot be done quite well with the hats on the throttle. I know we will not agree here, it is a matter of preference. I actually greatly prefered the layout of the X52 to the Warthog. All buttons and hats are easy to reach. I just wish there were more hats on the stick. When it comes to quality, my X52 became borderline useless (jittering) some time ago, so there is that. I also do not quite like the Warthog because of the insane stiction my unit has. And to reiterate my point: I would simply prefer a HOTAS system that does not simply mimic an existing layout, but takes a kind of "best of" apporach, where ergonomics (don't need to contort your fingers) and an attempt to make it compatible with as many modules as possible is the focus. -
F-18 grip, WARTHOG compatible
Viersbovsky replied to hegykc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
And it has its own slew of problems (layout is very uncomfortable for people with small hands, all rotaries jitter)... From the one I tested at a shop, it does have some stiction problems like the X52. So no more cheap plastic for me, only ball bearings and aluminum. Hegykc's base looks very solid, it just lacks a grip that I can use for all my modules. The grip is okay, could just use a bit more (push)buttons. No rotaries on the throttle and a low quality slew limit the usefulness to me. The 3 way switches are very specific. Also, two easily reachable pushbuttons for use as modifiers would get more mileage from it. I also feels quite awkward when it comes to ergonomics for me. My fingers really don't like that pinky button. -
F-18 grip, WARTHOG compatible
Viersbovsky replied to hegykc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Because the TM WH base/gimbal has severe problems that make me search for an alternative. And the WH grip is also kind of impractical (more buttons, slew control, better ergonomics would be nice). So since this project entails grips, a base and a throttle unit, I would rather have a universal throttle and grip instead of an F-18 grip and a BF109 grip, and a Mig-21 grip etc etc etc. -
F-18 grip, WARTHOG compatible
Viersbovsky replied to hegykc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
To be quite honest, I am not that interested in grips for individual planes. The problem: They are way too specific for a plane. I like to fly all kinds of planes - sometimes I like to do a bit of WW2 dogfighting, sometimes I like to fly the MIG21. Sometimes I do a bit of sightseeing in the Huey. I want a stick with a grip and throttle that allows me to fit almost all HOTAS buttons of every module onto it. And I don't feel like having a collection of grips that I quickly exchange before flying. The TM-WH at least has a proper grip with loads of hats and is used both in the F-16 as well as the A-10. I still would prefer an additional push button somewhere. The throttle on the other hand, is way to specific. I want more hats, more buttons (not 3-way switches), and proper rotaries and a mini-stick. The TM WH is a godsent for all those that want to build a hog-pit, but in all other ways it is pretty limited - it is simply designed like the real thing, and that was designed to work for one specific plane. So, what am I rambling about? I would actually prefer ONE proper grip that is ergonomic, has loads of buttons, hats and the like as well as a proper gimbal/base to go with it. The throttle as well should have everything I should ever need when simming. So, do you plan on building some kind of universal grip and throttle? I know this started as an F-18 grip, but became so much more. -
TM warthog joystick broken
Viersbovsky replied to mkauzlar's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That is a metal part by the looks of it. You could try to solder or weld it, though that depends on the metal - looks like cast iron to me. edit: Looked at my WH, and am pretty sure it's pressure cast aluminum - there is no (easy) way to weld this, sorry. -

Ok, which HOTAS should i get?
Viersbovsky replied to Jogui3000's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
CH products look like cheap toys but are actually pretty high quality. Some claim that they "last a lifetime" (CH actually makes most of its profit with industrial joysticks). I only have the pedals, and they are pretty solid. One disadvantage with the CH throttle is that it is only 8 Bit resolution (256 steps). However, that's still more than my X52 throttle with its constant jittering. The CH throttle does not look all that ergonomic or cool - it has a proper ministick however. It also does not move at an arc but is slid forward and backwards To set up all functions you will probably need to use modifiers. The CH throttle has some handy buttons for every finger on its backside that can serve that purpose. CH throttle + T1.6000m may actually be a pretty good combo. You can get the T1.6000m for s little as 40 bucks and the CH throttle will probably outlast you. -
Ah, obviously. Never been a Presley fan myself.

Already taken down by DMCA... What was the song used?

Solderless PCB mounting for pushbuttons, on-off switches etc
Viersbovsky replied to pappavis's topic in Home Cockpits
You know of prototype PCBs, right? Especially stripboards. https://www.futurlec.com/ProtoBoards.shtml You can transfer your breadboarded circuit more or less directly to the protoboard. You will still have to solder, but it is pretty easy with the help of these boards. -

Ok, which HOTAS should i get?
Viersbovsky replied to Jogui3000's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I bought mine 2 years ago and had to return it two weeks after purchase - had some kind of short circuit or something, so was completely unusable. The replacement has jittery potentiometers and mushy buttons (unfortunately that is no reason for a refund in my country...), so I had to life with that. So, out of the two X52 Pros I had, both have severe problems. I do not think that quality assurance has improved in those years, if anything Saitek has gotten worse (look at their newest pice of plastic, the farming simulator controller. The pedals are thin plastic sheets!). The problem is of course, that we as customers don't have much choice between products in this price range. If you can get your hands on a properly working X52 pro, it is actually a nice beginner hotas system. I have no idea how the g940 performs though. -

Ah, sorry, need to stop skimming posts. When it comes to the X52, it is pretty good when it comes to ergonomics. The problem is the rotaries in the throttle. Every single one of them jitters. Furthermore, my X52s had constant disconnects so I returned it. The replacement one on the other hand has buttons that feel way more mushy. Quality is all over the place. In the end I think it is good enough for the modern birds, since you don't need extremely precise inputs. Flying the SU25t or the Mig21 was no problem for me with the X52. The Huey is kind of okay if you get used to it. The german Warbirds like the FW190 or the BF109 don't work well, since they have no trim. Holding the stick 2° to the right while flying is not much fun - and the X52 somehow manages to have a certain amount of stiction in the low deflection ranges that make small adjustments hard. I only ever had the chance to try the X55 at a store, and my sentiments mirror Ralfi's. Not comfortable at all to push buttons. Maybe with a palm rest mod like Sokol sugested it may be bearable, but I could not stand it. TBH, I am very hard pressed to recommend ANY hotas system at the moment, since every single one of them screws up some very basic feature. -

Ralfidude made a very extensive video on the x55: [ame] [/ame] -
Someone make a video, please. Also, what are the other options aside from "equally responsible?"

Was heißt hier Gerüchte?
