  1. With some creativity, you could get a range estimate through TOO mode if you are at high altitude and have good visibility. Although it hasn't been programmed yet, there will be an indication on the HUD of where the emitter is. You could then designate a ground target using the hud at the same spot and get a rough estimate of range. And as cofcorpse pointed out, one of the primary advantages is being able to pick out an individual target out of many on a particular bearing. You can also get some information on where the emitter is beyond a simple bearing. It would be great if others could refrain from cluttering up the thread with misinformation.
  2. Can't you use YouTube's closed caption function? That usually works reasonably well. Doing actual subtitles can be pretty labor intensive.
  3. Yes, I believe Wags has said the ability to depress the SCS was an addition to later model Hornets. Unfortunately the one on my HOTAS definitely does not have that capability. :joystick:
  4. It's a bug. It's been reported. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3803820&postcount=338 Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  5. They changed how the fusing works. You should now turn mfuze off for LGBs.
  6. Sounds like these should help the missile determine when to explode (i.e. getting closer to a smaller target to ensure you actually hit something) and maybe which target to prioritize (i.e. fighter vs. awacs) among several in the seeker FOV. My guess is this is not modeled in the sim at all, regardless of what it does. The modeling of fuzing logic and target selection in DCS seems pretty unsophisticated by most accounts, and it's unlikely they would have implemented advanced capabilities for the Hornet without so much as mentioning it. It could probably be tested if someone had the time and inclination. In any case, it would be nice to know if it is in the works. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  7. For what it's worth, I have been having the same issue with the radar just getting stuck and not showing targets, without any predictable way of getting it unstuck (e.g., undesignate). As others have said, the other two issues you mention are normal operation.
  8. . . . . Here, you dropped some periods. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  9. Not sure why this is needed in the sim. It's not real life. You don't need to practice hundreds of times before risking lives and equipment by attempting on the ship. Just practice using the Stennis and if you crash, load it up and try again.
  10. See GGTharos' response. If you are head on with your target at close range, your missile should have more than enough energy to reach the target and maneuver for a kill. More important in that situation is having the shortest time of flight possible so that your missile hits him before his hits you. A more direct path would likely result in shorter TOF than lofting. The benefits of lofting are greater at longer range when the missile has further to go through dense air on a direct path.
  11. It is because the bombs are hard coded when loaded on the aircraft. The value you are entering on the stores page is just to match what is on the bombs so the computer can calculate the correct impact point. Perhaps someday they will include a way to adjust the HOB on the bombs in the mission editor or something. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  12. If I'm understanding you correctly, the answer to your question would seem to be "both." For a given range, your missile would likely have higher energy at the target (and presumably higher Pk) with LOFT mode. If you are trying to achieve a given energy state at the target, you could fire from further away with a LOFT profile.
  13. Fuel tanks are not just an issue at high speed. If you are in a turning fight, any unnecessary weight is going to increase induced drag and reduce your sustained turn rate. Being under-powered as it is, the Hornet can't afford that. In a life and death situation, those tanks are coming off. The reason you don't see that happening IRL is because (as someone already pointed out) we haven't been in a shooting war with a peer state like the US v. Russia scenario envisioned in DCS. Now could people in DCS be a bit less inclined to jettison everything every time they get locked up? Probably. But if there is no real cost to doing so, I doubt behavior will change much. Multiplayer mission designers could make supply of fuel tanks more constrained if they wanted to though.
  14. LOL I love that we have a Hornet instructor pilot seriously considering the ridiculous scenarios you only get with a bunch of us goofballs in MP. Gotta love DCS.
  15. Supposedly the fuzing/DUD bug has been fixed internally, but don't think it has made it to OB yet. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=230913

  17. The HARM itself does not detect anything at this point. The TOO mode hasn't been implemented yet. For now, you have to use your RWR to detect threats and cycle through them to engage with the HARM. Do you have your RWR turned on? Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  18. As far as I can tell, the purpose of that mission is just to demonstrate the HARM's ineffectiveness in the face of a dense air defense environment. Don't expect too much. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  19. They definitely follow these threads. The fact that this thread in particular has 18 pages and no tag or response from ED should tell you all you need to know about where this falls on their priority list.
  20. Seems like it wouldn't be that hard to implement an arcade-y version of jamming like I assume all the FC3 aircraft have until they have time to code it properly. Basically what they did with IFF.
  21. Depends on the vehicle and how close it hits I guess. I shot a salvo of 4 HARMs at a Tor and all 4 hit according to Tacview, but there was minimal damage to the Tor. I didn't actually go back to see if it was still capable of launching, but will test it out at some point.
  22. They honestly need to just remove the need to press down on the TDC to slew. It serves zero purpose as far as I can tell. If you put in a dead zone (as I'm sure most of us do), it's not going anywhere unless you are intentionally moving the TDC, so no need to press at the same time.
  23. Anyone know how many targets a Tor can engage at one time?

  25. Yes, I think that was part of the design focus for the F/A-18, making it a simple and intuitive cockpit for a single pilot to operate. The super hornet goes a step further replacing the UFC with a touch screen that can double as an EW or FLIR display. Would have loved to get that. The F-22 and F-35 are in another league though. In the F-35 it's basically one giant touchscreen.
