Well this thread has kind of gone off the rails already, but I just wanted to jump in to point out that even though some may look down on the FC3 aircraft as being too arcadey, there are actual arcade-style flight sims like Ace Combat where you literally fly with a gamepad and just point in the general direction of the enemy, auto lock, and spam missiles. And those games probably sell orders of magnitude more than FC3 or other DCS modules. I for one don't begrudge ED if they are going after that market or something more similar to the level of FC3. It doesn't interest me at all, but if it helps bring more people into our hobby and supports development of future modules, I'm all for it.

I'm wondering if this was something that was programmed in to simulate the burble (i.e. disturbed airflow from the carrier island), but they didn't know how to program it specific to the carrier and it just happens any time you get close to the ground/deck. If that's the case, I think we'd all agree it'd be best to remove it entirely.

+1 for this. Seems odd that other aircraft (including FC3 aircraft) have it and the hornet doesn't.

Honestly HARM and ATFLIR are the biggest things keeping the hornet from being a devastating SEAD and all-around A/G monster, and I can't wait for them. The biggest issue I have is finding targets quickly when I arrive at the target area and surviving air defenses long enough to make a couple attack runs. HARM and ATFLIR should take care of both. GPS guided weapons are nice for pre-planned strike missions against fixed targets, but those are pretty manageable even with dumb bombs if you have the exact coordinates ahead of time.

[REPORTED] RWS radar stabilization and tracking loss
Joker328 replied to KungFu's topic in Bugs and Problems
They probably consider it "not a bug" because the entire radar is WIP right now. It's not a matter of some screwed up code creating some unintended effects. The entire way the radar is coded is not realistic at the moment. It's like saying the missiles in DCS are bugged when it is just that their performance is unrealistic as currently coded. As for the radar, it has been more or less unusable since the module launched and it seems to take one step forward and two steps back with every update. They know it needs a lot of work still and they have indicated elsewhere that they are working on it. The information Beamscanner provided is helpful (assuming they don't already know it) but otherwise there's nothing else to be said at this point. It's a mess, and we will just have to live with it for the time being. Personally, I have set the Hornet aside for the time being. I'd suggest doing the same unless you don't mind treating it as a Gen 3 ground pounder. -
You don't have to start from a stop. Just don't engage it mid turn. Neutralize the rudder, engage NWS HI, and then slowly roll on the rudder in the appropriate direction. As others have said, going to far will just lock the nose wheel sideways. Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk

It should be a high priority if it isn't. Largely unusable in MP for me lately. Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk

Thanks. I think you summed it up nicely. This has been my experience as well. I think to some degree this is realistic in that by rolling too quickly, you could exceed the ability of the servos or whatever to reposition the radar antenna. It's probably just a bit too aggressive in modeling this at the moment, as it is largely useless for the purposes of employing the aim-7 in combat at the moment. Unless you are up against another f/a-18 or you sneak up on someone, they are going to have a much easier time of it in pretty much any other modern fighter. Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk

Bypass allows you to dispense flares or chaff one by one instead of relying on a specific program. It uses the countermeasures switch on the HOTAS. The dispense button on the left wall is more of a panic button. Not really practical in the sim unless you map a key to it. In any case, I think it is supposed to dispense a bunch of chaff and flares, but not necessarily all of them. Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk

It's a sim. Crash into the ****ing boat, load it up, and do it again.

Spin recovery switch used in displays???and some questions.
Joker328 replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Isn't there also an FCS override switch somewhere (separate from spin recovery)? I can't confirm at the moment, but maybe that is what you are looking for. -
No idea how it works IRL but logically I would think auto mode would still have an option for you to initiate the manual programs using the CM switch. So if you see an IR missile launch you could still drop flares even if it doesn't happen automatically. Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk

@Fri13 I agree with most of your analysis of what is happening in the sim, but I have no experience with which to determine whether the current behavior accurately represents the real-world behavior of the hornet radar. I think Raytheon ripped us off if it is that touchy in real life though. In any case, it's going to present issues in multiplayer if all the FC3 aircraft are able to fire and crank at 7 Gs maneuvering all around to defeat your missile, while in the hornet you lose lock if you breathe too heavily and have to keep returning to your previous course to get the radar to reacquire. Not having an active homing missile at the moment only exacerbates the issue. Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk

Auto and S/A modes have not been implemented yet in the sim. They are WIP. Use manual for now. Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk

I feel like it's unrealistic for the carrier to be all lit up like that while in theater, and especially while recovering aircraft. I'm open to correction by those with real world experience of course. Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk

[FIXED] Radar STT lock jumping between targets
Joker328 replied to HWasp's topic in Bugs and Problems
Likewise. Locking a single target when there are multiple targets on the same bearing is pretty much impossible. I wonder if this is intended/realistic behavior or just a bug. I hope the latter. Between that and how easily it breaks lock when maneuvering, I have just been avoiding any kind of A/A engagement. Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk -
What does that tell you? It tells me that there is not enough difference between them to spend any time or energy exploring it further and that they are probably interchangeable in the sim. Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk

I believe it is currently including FF from afterburner, but if I recall correctly from NATOPS it doesn't IRL.

Same experience with EMCON. The SIL pushbutton on the A/A radar does not work for me either.
