  1. Got the C101 and the Su27 campaign, next sale will probably be the Mig15 and 21. I also would love to fly the F-5, dunno why but I really like that bird. Maybe is because it was the starter plane on many Ace Combat ^^.
  2. Yeah, can't check right now but I think you're right now that you mention it. I believe they came with the new standalone module but I'm wasn't 100% sure FC3 owners got them. That's where I would start learning.
  3. FC3 needs updated training imho, it seems we all agree it's the best place to start learning since it has simplified systems yet it has probably the worst training of all modules. With this I'm not saying the included training is bad, it's just not as good as it should be considering it is where most of the new players will start learning. The Su27 and the F15 should at least have the same level of interactive missions as the 25t. That aside I will add that after you get the hang of FC3 (I recommend playing the sp campaign missions ) if you want to try a EFM module I would suggest the F86 or the P51. Both are excellent for beginners (like you and me) because they don't have complex systems to manage and are generally easy to operate. The Sabre is ridiculously easy to fly (you almost start it up using one switch) but the P51 would be the best to practice with WWII aircraft.
  4. If I recall correctly there're a couple of quick introduction guides in Steam too, go check them. They don't go into detail but could be a good way to the basics. I also agree the ingame training could be better (FC3, I'm looking at you) but usually that's where you want to start. I prefer the interactive tutorials to just watching videos/reading, at least for me it's easier to remember where's everything when you are actually clicking in the cockpit yourself.
  5. Same, finally got the 109, and I've been using both the standalone and the Steam version without problems. Steam bought keys work perfectly on the standalone, and there was a guide somewhere to do get the ED shop bought modules into Steam, albeit it required some tinkering and whatnot, but it worked for me.
  6. That would be actually pretty cool, I would like to invite friends to rides with the Oculus but buying two licenses just for that is a bit of an overkill. I also agree that this should be on a per module basis, Huey's door gunners or passengers doesn't really have much gameplay to it other than looking and shooting, so that could be free; on the other hand the co-pilot or the RIO positions does have complex systems modeled and it should be only available for module owners.
  7. Oh god, so hyped for this, can't wait to fly it.
  8. Haven't tried it yet with DCS but for AMD cards there's Raptr, which is essentially Shadowplay for AMD. It works with any game so don't see why it wouldn't work with DCS.
  9. Great news indeed, the number of modules I want to buy grows with each newsletter. Like everyone I'm eagerly awaiting EDGE , the thing with the colors (which was mentioned in the forums before) got me thinking. I've been following the development of the new engine and while all the new additions like skeletal animations, improved resolution of the terrain, etc are amazing, what I'm most interested in is the new rendering pipeline. I haven't seen a lot of info on this besides "new lighting system" or vague info like that (not complaining), so I'd like to know if anyone knows if EDGE is using PBS (Physically Based Shading), that could potentially explain the yellow tint thing, since PBS uses maps with no lighting information (albedo maps) and the old diffuse maps can look odd. To be honest don't think that's the case, since it would require updating all the materials and textures, but one man can dream, PBS looks incredible on non-organic materials, DCS would benefit immensely from it. Has anyone more details?
  10. That button works with the P51, there you have a resumed version of everything you need to fly, from startup to weapon employment, great when you need to check something quick, but haven't tried it on other modules. I think I tried using it with the Huey and it didn't work, so I just created a startup checklist jpeg and added it to the kneeboard. I feel silly now, got a tablet but never thought of copying the manuals there... that's probably the best solution.
  11. Fly at about 450-500 Kmph , now you can press S to go into direct control, but reset trimm before doing it otherwise you will instantly pitch down and stall/black out. Push the stick back and quickly forward again, and back again if you overshoot to stabilize the aircraft. You can also start pushing back the stick and then press S to activate the direct control mode without stalling. Also, don't do it close to the ground, get some height just in case.
  12. I just reset trimm before pressing it and it works just fine. That or start pitching up and then press S to do the cobra.
  13. Yeah it's an error, button 9 for chaff. What do you mean by BVR radar switching? If you mean changing the HUD mode, then yes, I simply press 2 on the keyboard, after that I can manage everything with the HOTAS, (turning the radar on, changing between TWS,RWS, the frequency.. ). I use the keyboard for the landing gear, flaps, HUD mode mainly, and also any other thing that isn't very important. like turning the engines on and things like that. I don't feel like I need them on the HOTAS. I'm now using trackIR but I still left the trimming as it was, don't want to trimm by accidentally pressing the POV hat, I'll probably map that to the most important combat sensor slew of the aircraft ( the maverick on the A10A for example)
  14. This, it took me a lot of tries to take off and when I managed to do it was because of this. I also increased throttle slower, but for me the key was to keep the tail on the ground.
  15. It's not a bug, the Su25T autopilot works by trimming the aircraft that's why you might feel it becomes hard to control, because it doesn't reset the trim when it's disengaged. If you disengage autopilot while it was performing any maneuver the aircraft will keep turning in whatever direction it was going, you have two options, reset trim or engage Level Flight (Alt+3) and wait before the aircraft has stabilized before disengaging autopilot.
  16. It's reported, got the same problem. There's no gunners, that's why you can't go to the gunner position, you have two options, edit the mission and add the m60 or just create a custom mission with some targets and practice by yourself.
  17. First I'll say that I'm not a pro, but I'll share what I've learned while struggling to blow up things off the sky. WARNING! Wall of text ahead. Pikey has given you a great advice, give yourself little goals. In FC3 there's many roles and many aircraft, so if you try to do everything from the get go you'll get confused and frustrated. Focus first in one combat type, like CAS or Air to Air, and then progress with the rest as you start to feel confident. Also focus on one aircraft at a time to minimize the time learning new systems. Since I started flying the free Su 25T, I found that the Su 27/33 were the easiest to learn as I was already familiar with the HUD and some other systems. I will use the Su 27/33(they're almost the same) to show you my keybinds and also explain a bit about combat. Before I start note that you don't need the POV buttons to look around so you have one extra free modifier button, as I don't currently have TrackIR. Flight Controls: I have set button 7+POV to trim the aircraft, and I have this on all my aircraft, even the P51 and the A10C. I like to trimm the aircraft without taking my hands off from the controls, having it the same on all aircraft helps when you are in a tense situation, you don't wanna waste time thinking on your controls. The landing gear and the flaps I have left them on the keyboard, as I don't use them that often. I have set Button 7+Button 10 for the wheel brakes, again the same on all aircraft. This is for landing when you don't want to move the hand to the keyboard to brake. I have set the airbrake to Button 7+ Button 3, I don't use it that often though. You might have noticed a pattern, all my flight related controls are set to the same modifier key, button 7. This way I know that when I want to do something related to flying it's going to be Button 7+ something else. Now Combat, including BVR controls. I have set my countermeasures to Button 8 for Chaff and Button 10 for flares, no modifiers. The reason behind this is because your life depends on these, so I chose two buttons that I can press quickly at any time, with no modifiers to prevent mistakes. Flares are extremely important because they are used to defeat IR missiles that give no warning and are usually launched from short distances giving a short period of time to react. More on this later. You will use your radar to track targets and engage in BVR combat, I have set Button 11 (it's on the base of the throttle, says SE) to turn it on/off, but the keyboard command should work just fine. you don't want the radar On all the time because it gives away your position, but you won't be turning it on off constantly either. Next to it, I have set Button 12 (ST) to Return to Search, this will deselect a target and return to search mode, allowing you to select another target. Next is Select Scan or Track While Scan mode (TWS), Button 8 + 9. In scan mode the Radar will only show you the targets while on search and you have select one and press the lock on button to track it. On TWS mode selecting a target in search mode will begin tracking it, without the need to press the lock on button. Radar Pulse Frequency mode, I have set this to Button 8 + 10. This is used to change the radar detection mode between High (HI) and Medium (MED). High frequency mode is used to detect targets flying head on to you, and Medium frequency mode to search for targets between side and tail on, not using the correct mode reduces your detection range. I have set Button 8+POV to change the radar scan zone to both sides and up and Down, this is useful to keep your target on the radar while you maneuver. Button 8+2 increases the scan zone, and Button 8+4 decreases it. This might not seem obvious, but I also have set my zoom view controls to another modifier + 2 and 4, so it works in a similar fashion where you "zoom" your radar. As you see I used button 8 as my modifier for my radar controls, next is the target designator and target controls in general, I used Button 6 as a modifier for this. Button 6+POV slews the target designator, this is used to select targets in the radar while on search mode. Button 6+ 2/4 decreases or increases the target designator size. I have set target lock to Button 3(side of the joystick), without modifiers, also to avoid mistakes during combat. That should cover everything you need to get your target, now weapon systems. Weapon fire is set to Button 1, note that some aircraft have a different key for the gun and for weapon release (like the A10A) so you need another key for that, I would suggest button 2 without modifier also. Button 2 for the Cannon, this only selects it, and Button 4 to change weapon. I haven't done it yet, but I will set Button 5 as my HUD modifier, so Button 5+POV left/right will cycle through the different modes and up/down to select waypoints, or something like that. That's all the controls I have for the Su33 , there's still room to add some more but that's what I use more often and should be a good guideline to create your own. Now a couple of tips and tricks to help you learn all of this stuff. You have to watch the combat employment tutorials. The only caveat FC3 has is the lack of interactive missions which is a big pain for newbies like us, it seems like the Su 27 update will come with some missions, but until then you'll have to watch those low res videos. Next you will want to practice, start just learning to get the radar working and detect a target. To do so, go to quick mission, generate a mission without threats or allies, and then add manually in front of you at some distance a transport/recon aircraft, like the C130, hop in and try to start the radar, locate the C130 track it and blow it. The next step is to setup something a bit more difficult, try adding 2 CAS planes like the A10 vs you and a wingman. These will be harder to kill and remember that they also have A2A missiles. When you feel like you are prepared, put some F16, you'll notice that they will also engage in BVR combat and shoot back at you. Some quick tips for BVR and Air to Air combat in general (remember, I'm no expert), your missiles have limited fuel, this is extremely important so keep it in mind always: -climbing consumes more energy, so shooting at targets higher than you will be more difficult. -if you shoot from max range your missile wont have enough fuel to maneuver if your targets tries to evade. -your speed also helps your missile reach further away. -everything above remains true for the enemy, climbing, doing aggressive maneuvers or simply flying away forces the missile to burn more fuel. -use chaff for radar guided missiles like those used in BVR in combination with maneuvering. -if you go full defensive you will probably lose your own lock, a good tactic is to fire your missile and once the enemy has fired his, start flying to one side instead of continuing straight on, using your radar controls to keep your target on the scan zone while also climbing. This way the enemy missile will have to burn more fuel as you are not going towards it, but it also enables you to keep your own lock. -after merging with the enemy don't bother with the radar, change the HUD mode and use the other A2A modes to get quick locks. -Caution! IR Missiles give no warning when fired!!! I know it sucks but you have to actually see them coming and use flares and maneuvers to evade them. Your wingmans will warn you saying missile launch, but only if they see it too. Manpads (portable launchers carried by infantry) are specially dangerous, be very careful when flying low over infantry units. Well, that's about it, if you have more questions feel free to ask.
  18. Hi bernek, I will try to explain how I setup mine and why. First, as Echo179 has said, the Hotas X doesn't have that many buttons, I have the A10C and this is a pain to deal with, but you can still fly without much problem, it's just not that comfortable. For FC3 on the other hand it's perfectly fine, I won't go into specific keybinds but since FC3 has many aircraft it can get confusing too. First, you have to think what do you need on your HOTAS. Things like the gear are used twice per flight, so you don't need to map them, you have to map all the controls that you find yourself using more often, unfortunately for this the best thing to do is to actually fly different missions and see what do you use more. The next thing I have into account is survivability, there's things that can use a modifier and things that cannot, i.e countermeasures. Your life depends on them so it's better to have them on a single button press. In FC3 there's more than one aircraft, things can get confusing so I like to keep my keybinds consistent between them. For example, the previously mentioned countermeasures would be mapped to the same buttons on all aircraft, to minimize the number of specific controls you have to remember. Other examples are: the trimm modifier key is the same on all, the modifier to slew the sensors (Shkval for the Su25, the radar on the Su27....) and so on Hope this tips help, I can get into specific keybinds if you want them but I think it's better if you set them to your liking.
  19. I would also love to have tutorial missions like the Su-25T has, even if they doesn't have voice over. Landing and navigation tutorial missions would also be nice, but at least I'd like to see tutorial missions with combat basics for each aircraft, so BVR for the F15, Su 27/33, short range Air to Air for the Mig and CAS tutorial for the A-10A, to know at least how to use the different sensors and weapons for each aircraft. The videos we have now have very poor quality, and while they help, the tutorials for the Su-25T are so much better that I think I've been spoiled by them.
  20. I was having the same problem, the thing is, it seems that it will refuse to guide you if you are too off from the glideslope. First use the HSI to align yourself with the runway, when you are close enough the ADI will guide you, also as far as I know the HUD won't really help. First let me say that I'm no pro, in fact I bought FC3 a couple of days ago and today was my first day flying the Warthog, what follows is what I managed to learn playing around, so there might be better ways to do it, but this certainly works Here's a couple of screens with instructions: Bad course, ILS won't work, use the HSI (marked with a red circle) to align with the airfield To use the HSI to get the right course, to do so just follow the dotted line. The white bar should end right in front of the plane indicator. The bar will start to get close to the center after a while, just before it gets there start turning towards the arrow that indicates the correct heading keep flying following the HSI, the ILS will start working when you are close enough to the airfield, provided you followed the correct course. Now just follow the ADI and the AoA indicator to land the plane. If you have flown the Su33 watch out, the AoA indicator is inverted here, an arrow pointing Up means reduce speed, pointing Down means increase speed, this confused me as in the Su33 is the other way around. As you can see the conditions were very poor on this landing, this was just a coincidence, created a fast mission with random weather, but I still managed to get to the airfield an land without problems. EDIT On some airfields ILS just doesn't work, can't confirm this but only the airfields that has the landing path indicated will have ILS, maybe the others has russian ILS, don't really know.

  21. I just tried it and i couldn't notice anything when slewing the target sideways, and I noticed something strange when moving it up and down, could be what you described but I'm not 100% sure. Still, you are not alone, here OneFatBird reports the exact same thing.
  22. Just finished that mission, I made it, but it was quite hard to get a lock on the T72s (I ended up destroying a civilian house). What I did was just trying to place the reticle right on top of them before setting the lock. It would sometimes go for the bridge, when that happened I tried to move it away from it and to the target while keeping an eye on the distance. Don't think there's any trick, since unlike the Su25t you can't change the size of the target it will keep locking on random things, just have to struggle. Crashmo, the A-10A doesn't have targeting pod, the systems are simplified so no force correlation mode that I'm aware of.
  23. First let me say hi, I recently bought FC3 and I'm running with some weird issue that I haven't seen reported here. As the title says, the game is crashing while flying the A-10A. I created a simple fast mission to practice with it and at some point in the middle of the mission it crashes and sends me to the main menu. This hasn't happened with the rest of the aircraft, which has me scratching my hea. The mission is just me and a wingman vs ground forces set to min in the fast mission generator, the crash happens sometime after I engage the targets,at a seemingly random time. Will try to change the mission to see if I can narrow down what is causing the crash, will try to fly alone and then without enemies and see if it still crashes, also just to be sure I'll setup a second monitor to keep an eye on memory usage while flying, but I've got 8Gigs of RAM so that shouldn't be the problem. Also I'm running the game from Steam. Has anyone experienced something similar to this? UPDATE: Nevermind, I think I found the cause, I was using a smoke and fire mod that wasn't updated, restored all DCS files and now it seems to work just fine.
