  1. But PESA radars probably lack the jamming capabilities their AESA counterparts posess. The upgraded Mig-29 for the RuAF (VVS) has a slotted array radar, as does the Su-27SM. The only plane that might have AESA in Russian service is the Su-34, but the numbers in service are below 20 right now, so it's not really a big fleet.
  2. For the movie Stealth, which sucked butt but had nice blue powerLEDs
  3. Are you kidding me FSX Accel is pure crap, it doesn't even model a flight control system of the F-18A, not to mention you have to hit the deck in some strange way in order to make a trap, very much like in Falcon 4.0. X-plane indeed is the best carrier ops sim thus far (and, no it's not perfect, but the best that's out there). Realism and Acceleration are two different things I'm afraid :(
  4. He died on 7 Februari, at the age of 82 :( This is the man responsible for the Soviet ejection seats in general, and also the designer of the famous and still capable K-36 ejection seat. I'm sorry for my reluctance to translate the article, but I'm in a hurry right now, so altavista it or something. P.S. I ripped this from the Russian languaged aerospace forum, hope it's ok. Северин был награжден восемью орденами СССР и РФ. http://lenta.ru/news/2008/02/07/severin/ http://www.zvezda-npp.ru/news.html Rest in peace, man who saved so many lives :|
  5. ^ Yes, countries with developed air defence structures have an integrated air/ground assets, and it may very well be the reason the US is choosing to develop UCAVs to counter that without loss of life. However, they also assume the next threat will be inferior in terms of air/ground defence and that those will be scattered all over the country without communications between them. Oh well, IMHO the US and Russia should cut the crap concerning their show of power and the US and NATO should assume a DEFENSIVE stance, no need to start a world war 3. Are there actually countries that the US-minded side sees as a 'threat' that have a decent air defense system along with space based assets?
  6. Why is that? I mean, satellites can track planes as well, so it's not like they can't hide from Big Brother's eyes forever. In the end it all comes down to disguise and misinformation, if you can hide SAMs or planes well, you're on the home stretch to victory or at least a good run for the invaders' money. Planes still need airstrips, those can be targeted. A mobile SAM will less likely be destroyed while sitting in a repair shop. The only disadvantage SAMs have is speed. There were plans in the Soviet Union for VTOL equipped S-300 sites, but it was too expensive, and I guess impractical considering the power requirements for a long loiter time. Probably they would need a nuclear engine, and then we all arrive at the radiation shielding piece of the puzzle, and possibly thrust requirements, crash resistance etc. What is interesting is the shift in aircraft design from stealth to multirole ability and sensors, prabably due to some countries having long wavelangth radars ESM and other 'tricks'.
  7. Wow, that's quite a show on the Pantsyr system, and they need it if the governmnet will buy more of them and modernize existing Tors to the M2 level.
  8. The launch footage is from the S-300, the one for the S-400 is still classified. The S-400 hit 2 targets, one travelling at 2800 m/s, the other on a ballistic trajectory at 56km. At least, that's what was said in the video.
  9. in RL the world is round, and noone places a S-300 without Tors, Buks and Pantsyrs *somewhere* near the site Funny thing is, that radar can be sitting 20 km away, and it may not be the only one out there. A-10 vs S-300 or some other serious SAM system, well, no way Jose, maybe if like 4 squads converge on it from different vectors, but even then it's only limited by the amount of missiles.
  10. Same way they've dome it in other games: an AI crewman with its limitations and such, causing immense bitching sprees all over the forums about it being too predictable and stupid.
  11. Ever seen Mission Impossible 2? Well, it's possible then. Seems like the train has some kind of modular design, or is it me not having played lomac in ages? When I saw the Charlie's Angels 2 trailer, I thought: woot, Ka-52, they might even eject out of it. And then came the lameness of the actual movie :(
  12. Seriousely, comparing helicopter armor to attack plane armor, and comparing that to tank armor, is like comparing paper airplanes with model gliders and 1/5th scale model jets, they all fly, but that's all they have in common. Actually, the Ka-50 has very good armoring for a chopper, can't beat the titanium tub on the A-10, but aluminium is still better than aramids. Tanks hoever have 1200mm equivalent of armor, while the A-10 has like an inch of titanium, and the Ka-50 350 (something with 300) kg of aluminium. Which is barely a centimeter of armor. But yet again, better than some kevlar and armored seats. But heck, the Apache has HMDs, so who needs armor, or parachutes, or flares (US ones) :P I have this sick fantasy, what if an antitank round hits the rotor mast...
  13. In real life it would, just a big chunk missing from the front. Aka unflyable.
  14. The Mi-28 has at least thick doors, unlike that Apache with its unarmored windows and several layers of kevlar to stop an odd 9mm round. Not that you should get shot at in the first place, but better being safe than sorry. Still, the Ka-50 is more agile and has this Airwolf look, now all we need are pilot models with black motorcycle helmets.
  15. So you can actually do an insertion by train. I like that idea Mr Bong (the stoner version of the famous MI-6 operative). Or is it something Jack Auer would do, land on a train that is about to crash, and hovering above the train when it derails on a bridge with enormous fireballs.
  16. I guess you'd better hope the flares fool those Aim-9s, and do some aerobatics when the A-10 targets you with the gau-8. If not, then you're toast.
  17. Too, in service, too new, too classified :( AND MY DREAM :P
  18. Argh, REAL R-27s have proximity fuses, a yellowish radome, and smooth control surface connections with a black circle where the actuators are. Until we see those things, and some strange radome shape, then it's a R-27EA
  19. Oh, meh, in that case, sorry for the wrong info. I know it worked in the vanilla 1.1 FC version, since then, I haven't been into MeInt modding lately (only made a 17 pylon mod for the Mig-29S) No not for online you whiners, this is a game, and like with card games, the most fun you'll have is when it's all done in a fair way, no cheating. That's for online flying, offline I'd like to hang some SAM missiles on my flying machine, so, is that possible? IE by copying the CLSID into the loadouts? Would be sweet to accomplish, heck, if anybody knows, plz post it here. If you don't want to tell it here, plz PM me (confidentiality=100% as none of the people I know plays flight sims, let alone FC). For 1.12 ;)
  20. Yeah, yeah, more popular, duuh, it's cheaper to build and maintain, requires a lower classification for the mechs, can be used as a trainer and allows second and maybe third class pilots to fly it. (only first with the Ka-50). So cheaper pilots, mechs and acquisition costs, then the media is state controlled in Russia, so basically they can popularize whatever they want, be it the ka-50, mi-28 or a Mi-2.
  21. Still works, even with with lope. But the missile just flies in a straight line.
  22. The people who play online will start whining then, why I don't know, as there are loadout control scripts by now. So, what's the deal, afraid some 12 yrs old will shoot down your glorious virtual F-15 :megalol: It's a game ^
  23. Like I said on the Russian forum, that is just crazy, and that makes it awesome. It's like 24, but with real potential to be killed and no cliche superheroes and good music.
