  1. No heat screens either on that, guess the fat thing barely keeps flying without those hp-suckers. Stingers can even hit it with the screening devices, choppers are very fragile judging from all those Arab videos.
  2. Flanker taking off from a raod, that's great, they can's do that in big daddy Russia, a while ago they held excercises with an improvised airstrip, but their roads were in a bad state, lots of gravel, so only choppers and a Yak-18T took off from it, a Su-27 made a low approach though, and they were all bragging about how great that was. :P Oh, cool pics, Su-27UBM1 from a road, very Scandinavian of them.
  3. Oh, our government, all for 'christian values' (bulls%$^, specatum tauri), while cutting on the military and selling the hardware to finance 'other' things (other may mean: own pockets, pockets of families, pockets of affiliated contractors). Oh well, at least our navy ships have the Standard SM-3 to shoot down stray, errm, wait, who's going to launch ballistic missiles at the Netherlands? Meanwhile, our F-16s get sold to Chilie, our APCs (or something like that) too, and even ther I'm seeing ads for the F-35 JSF on screens in BARS, I want to drink damn it, not see ads for how great the JSF is. High tech is great, but financing it by selling off other, not yet obsolete hardware is ridiculous.
  4. hahahahaha that was hilarious :D :P Then crash the truck and find yourself working in the meat factory simulator, where Ka-50s are used to make meat loaf.
  5. Do they also meaure speed by letting go a piece of rope and counting the amount of knots going through the fingers? I don't have any knowledge on the systems of the Tu-160, and about the Tu-22M3 'reconaissance' plane, well, a Buk SAM can shoot it down. If only you guys could understand Russian and tried watching their "Vesti" (News, channel is called "Russia") site, Fox News is heaven on earth compared to that :noexpression:.
  6. Wonder what happened to coating the muzzle vicinity with a (copper based, can't remember) paste for corrosion protection from the powder gasses? Great looking aircraft BTW, how can you even compare something like that with a Mig-29A/G/S/SMT? They're all outdated in comparison, the only Mig-29 that is comparable is the Mig-35. Oh man, the Russians sure can hype old technology ;) Bet the MFI will be 8 years late and outdated from the design stage.
  7. Read a while ago on a Russian site that a Mig-31 (not specified what mod) couldn't lock on it with its radar from 6km. Ofcourse it doesn't say much about the ECM (or crappy ECCM on the -31), but that's because it's some kind of state secret, as is the jamming platform on the B-52. And true so, without it, those bombers would be a long range missile's dream.
  8. I've seen Nightwish live, good band, especially the bass player, he's the mastermind of Tarot, now that's a band. Love the style, hate Nightwish with its (past) Gothic-esque image, and the fat opera lady. This is one of the numbers I do like from them. But, still Tarot > Nightwish. The new singer is better on the eyes, but it seemed like she was trying too hard to fit in rather than doing her best singing-wise. In the end, this song is great, I can say with a high degree of confidence that Tigrou's videos (Lockon STE) hooked me on power metal/melodic (heavy) metal. Relly like the combination of a nice rythm, good (really good, especially in real life, not like all those MTV 'Oh, im playing rock, but all I can do is jump around like a muppet and scream like a 10 year old, but the girls love me, so does my gay fat producer, so I'm hip, and get all kinds of expensive PR' type of bands you see becoming popular these days. (Indie rock is what they call it, well, that's a new definition of 'no talent'). Absolutely hate 25-ish emo looking bi-sexual monkeys jumping around THINKING (really believing) they have a songing voice  Good guitar players, good drummers, good keyboards, good bass, melodic riffs and spotless vocals, that deserves my money any time. (Yes, your resident nutter tried watching some music channels lately) Oh, about the video, yeah it's great, still reminds me of Lockon STE_5 :P
  9. But still, even then the S-300 is no longer modern (maybe still capable, but no longer 'state of the art') Remember the design is from the early or late sixties (forgot when, but 196x). The PMU-2 and 3 may be modern, but older types are probably already jammable.
  10. Let's hope we'll get a Herc module in some time, if it has guns, that's great, if they're 'classified', then no gung, but then we should be able to do tactical air drops, and dump hundreds of flares at once. All that with realistic engine out performance, clickable cockpit and flushable lavs (can I program the advanced s**t model? ;)).
  11. Cool cars, especially tha MAZ 7907, looks like a heavy cargo mover (you know, the low floor, computer controlled multi wheel steered thingys).
  12. 'Realistic' sea conditions, carrier landings are way too easy with a stationary deck. It should roll, pitch and drop. But I see problems already, planes sliding off decks sideways, invisible obstacles, like now when placing a carrier too close to the shore.
  13. Those booms on the K-36 do wonders at higher speeds in correcting its trajectory, killing any roll/yaw and inducing a bearable oscillation in pitch (comes down to 2 Hz, do not violent at all). Guess the boom drogues also help in zero/zero ejections to corrent an offset center of gravity (like the vernier rocket beneath the ACESII). The K-36 3.5 has an option for roll correcting rockets, but I don't think anyone bought them. Besides that the new K-36 has a digital sequencer with more than 100 modes, so it will not fire the rocket if you eject inverted at low altitudes and will deploy the chute asap. The only K-36 model that has a rocket powered pitch aid is th K-36V on the Yak-36M/38 and has 3 modes: front, center and aft, depending on the attitude of the Yak in hover during ejection. Don't know much about the K-37-800, all I know is the rocket at the back has two thrust modes, a low thrust until the lanyard is stretched and full power to pull Mr pilot out along with his chute and emergency kit. I remember a figure of 90 m being quoted for inverted egress, but that's without sinkrates ;)
  14. Yup, and now they use tungsten because DU is dangerous for everyone and everything around it :) Better pile it up at some nuclear facility rather than poison everyone involved, on both ends of the bullet/armor/bomb. Sure the risks are nill, sure, that's why they finally start using tungsten, no harm at all with DU... /sarcasm.
  15. Slightly confusing title, reminds me of the Jetranger trying to tow a boat (too bad they didn't attatch the rope at the center of gravity, so the chopper went for a swim). One of those occasions when a retarded voice-over fits the video.
  16. Didn't like Dana Scully much, liked that other one, in the last two seasons, she was hot. (I know, a very mature analysis). But Fox Mulder is the best, his strange lifestyle, stoner remarks, paranoia (related to the former?) and genuine love for the paranormal, and especially extraterrestials is awesome. You know what, when I'll have some time off, I'll start watching from the first episode. BTW, the R-27EA is only 'offered' as a mid/end life upgrade for the R-27, but since all of them are quite old, propellant wise, nobody, even Ukraine themselves has bothered to implement ARH on it. In fact, let's start a thread on the KS-172 and its constantly changing appearance, and ask ourselves how many of those are in service. And even then, so what, there is the Meteor, and several other long range AAMs that have far more impressive specs. Man, I think I've said it like 10 times in theis thread :P
  17. The F-18's from the US have the MB Mk.14 (NACES), the Canadian, and probably Spanish ones have the SJU-5 Mk.10 based seat. It's a good seat, as long as low altutude and sink rates (even moderate ones) are not combined. Care to elaborate on the single throttle lever?
  18. 2: pitch down limiters, so you can't pitch at 90 degrees down and lawndart the fields, a flight control system.
  19. Strange that SARH missiles are not detected when guided, as the guidance signal is different from the tracking one (that's how jammers like the Beryoza and probably the Sorbytsia know when to jam certain frequencies). Strange that the SPO doesn't pick it it, especially on the Mig-29S or Su-27s with jamming pods.
  20. The R-73 has a 7700N engine, however, the burn time or specific impulse is never stated :( But we can calculate how fast it was going at the time of impact, problem is, we don't know the launch speed. About using a missile to take out a drone, remember when that Israeli F-16 used a Python-5, in a, almost insane off-aspect shot to take out a Hezbollah drone? How much do you think a Python-5 costs?
  21. Reminds me of that Australian tall people store commercial, with the blue R-22 :P here it is http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=95Tv8aw1Q_w
  22. Well, I hope Russia will not be saying it's a privately owned Mig-29, because general aviation does not exist there, let alone open air space (approval is always needed from military flight controllers). So, it's a Mig-29 from another dimension or something? :megalol:
  23. And the ejection was ordered many times by the flight controllers, nothing heroic about it. And if you check the official Zvezda site, you'll see that they have it as well, always a good commercial for the K-36. :P The flame was extinguished, and the damage was insignificant, according to one of the latest features by Smotr about the Yak-141 (with test pilot interviews).
  24. Oh, how cute, ya all discussing the joysticks I've broken :D The only real FF experience I have with FF sticks consists of 4 Logitech Wingman's (the flat square ones, that were sold like 4 years ago) that all have quit on me in like 1 year (worn out pots). The strange thing is that I only played like 2 times in a week :( Tried a MS FF2 and an old wingman (the big red one, with cables) and those, well, rocked.... really well ;)
