RTX 4080 & 7900 XTX/XT benchmarks DCS

Unfortunately, this will have zero effect on the 4000-series prices. AMD really missed the mark on this one. Dammit. -

Looks like the XTX isn't up to the 4090, but trades blows with the 4080 with occasional wins over the 4090. -

Certainly making me feel better that these results aren't good. If I can find one on Launch Day, I might get one. -

That's not what VideoCardz says. https://videocardz.com/newz/first-amd-radeon-rx-7900-xtx-7900-xt-3dmark-timespy-firestrikes-scores-are-in Their benchmarks show the XTX trading punches with the 4080, not the 4090. -
RTX 4080 & 7900 XTX/XT benchmarks DCS

With AMD's 7900XTX coming out on Monday, it looks like it could be a good buy for DCS. If the 4080 is 35-40% faster than the 3080, and the XTX appears to be equalling the 4080 or within +/-5%, then the XTX should be a good buy. Especially for VR. I'd love to get another 25-35% performance in VR. Now the big question is if you can actually get one when they launch. -
Here's an example. 21 T72B's set up. Dropped one CBU105 (vis mode) in the middle of them and got 3 kills. That's it. Watching in the F6 view, the CBU detonates at the right spot, but the bomblets and skeets continue moving forward. More than half the bomblets don't even do their rocket thing over top of the formation. 3 kills in that tightly grouped formation of T72s from one CBU 105. Here's the track file. cbu105 f16.trk

Well, it appears the A10C II doesn't like the analog sticks on either the throttle or stick. I can't get it to recognize the thumb stick on the throttle or the EX stick on the F-16 grip. So I'm having to use the 4-way hat on the throttle on top of the man rng knob as the TDC slew. EDIT: I think I got it - the game wasn't allowing me to assign the TDC slew, but it would allow me to assign the HOTAS Slew. Then I picked Joy X/Y on the throttle and now the throttle analog stick works for the TDC.

So I was able to easily find a profile in Simapp for the F-16, but apparently one doesn't exist for the throttle base? How can I assign buttons - DCS sees it when I go to adjust controls, but none of the buttons work when I try to assign them.
-
Wow, so the only real way to make this work with the Monstertech mount is to velcro the throttle to the plate rather than use the screws. That's ridiculous. Guess I need to get some velcro then.
-
I've been using the radio 4-way to work as my brake/rudder control (downward brake, left/right for rudder) before. But I really like twist-axis for rudder control.

I don't have room for pedals.

It's always out of stock - and the FAQ says "soon" essentially. Anyone heard any updates on future availabilities?

Orion2 and F16 throttle arrived today! Got here before the Monstertech mounts I ordered the same day (and Monstertechs came from Florida) - FedEx says the Monstertech mounts should be here by the end of the day. We'll see. I'm extremely impressed with the packaging. Custom cut inserts inside the boxes for the parts, exterior boxes all taped up nicely, etc. Far exceeded my expectations. The grips are also quite nice. I do prefer the button action of my Cougar. I'm used to the much shorter travel of the buttons on the Cougar stick and having that hard click rather than the springy click of the Orion2. The multitude of different axis are very welcome though, especially for the AH64. I also prefer the metal buttons on the throttle and stick of the Cougar to the plastic ones with the Orion2/Throttle, but it's not a deal breaker and they seem just as functional. Just a preference at this point. I'm pretty stoked for how many buttons the throttle base has - and how many of them I actually use! Like the autopilot, etc. I will say that the scaffold system they have for the F16 throttle board is one of the most infuriating things to put together I've ever done. The absolute worst part are the ends of the rails that attach to the throttle base. The stinking nuts are obscured by this... plastic billboard on both ends of the throttle. There's not enough room to get your fingers in, so I had to lay the throttle on the table, put the nut on the washer, then slide the washer over to the hole with the included screwdriver, and then insert the screw through the bottom and pray the nut didn't fall off. Then there's trying to adjust it so the roller bearing will ride properly - there are like 12 screws you have to futz with to try and get the thing properly aligned, and every time you move one, the others move. You can't screw them down because they need to move so it can be adjusted. I just can't fathom how this was the best way they could come up with to make it work. I've also read that the rails obscure the Monstertech mounting holes too, so this should be fun when the arrive. Nothing can ever be simple. lol Otherwise, I really like how the stick doesn't have the 2, 4, 8, and 10 o'clock notchiness the Cougar does. Nice and smooth all around. Throttle, when adjusted, feels great. The pinky to pick up the throttle like in the real bird is flippin awesome. With the infuriating assembly process, I'd give the stick/throttle combo a solid 8/10. If it was easier to assemble and didn't constantly obscure everything you need to do things, this is a solid 9/10. Lets see how I feel about it after I've actually flown with it.

HP Reverb G2. I have a 6800XT and bought one - it worked very well, I was just a bit disappointed with the off-center clarity and the FOV felt a little small. So I returned it. But HP had a black friday sale where it was only $299. So I bought it again. DCS without VR is just not as good - especially if you have the Apache. VR is almost mandatory IMHO.

Well, I took the plunge. Ordered the Orion2 and F16EX throttle, and got the Monstertech plates so I can mount them. We'll see how long it takes to get here - a long time coming, me finally ordering these. I just hope they're as good as I want.

Why does the kneepad time and in-plane time never match?
CybrSlydr replied to CybrSlydr's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
So, how do you make them match? -
I'm flying in Liberation with the A-10C II and the F-16 and on the kneepad, the in-plane times never match up with the kneepad times for, say, takeoff, or join or anything. So I really never know if I'm actually flying with my escort or they're waiting back at the airport because the time difference between kneepad and in-plane.

Head over to HP.com and it's on sale for $299.99. Decided to get it again as DCS just hasn't been the same without it.

I think it's time I finally upgraded my TM Cougar. It's still functional, but the stick has a consistent pull to the right when centered. I'm leaning towards the WW setup for the extra hats (useful for the AH-64 I think) and the extra functionality on the throttle base. Are you folks happy with your purchase? Any buyers remorse for a different brand? I already have Monstertech mounts, so I'll probably be getting the base plates too so I could use them. I guess I'm just looking for you folks to confirm that it's a good setup and worth your money so I won't feel like an idiot for buying it. lol I do wish they'd get the Z-axis in stock as I like twist rudder since I don't have pedals. Thank you!

Every time I'd tried to see Foxx's stuff, they were out of stick and weren't taking any orders. I would have gone with them instead of Monstertech if they ever had any stock. Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk

I literally just had the Monstertech TM Cougar HOTAS mounts and plates delivered to me today by FedEx. It did take about a week to get a shipping notification. Shipping from Tampa, FL to Casper, WY got here in 3 days. Mounts are pretty great, but expensive. They don't come with a tool to tighten the bolts, I had to run to the auto parts store to buy the appropriately sized hex wrenches (another $15). Another annoying fact is the bolts that attach the plate to the bottom of the Cougar joystick are a different hex wrench size than the bolts that attach the plate to the throttle bottom - so you need at minimum 3 different sized hex wrenches. You can pop the plastic ends off the mounting part so you can access the bolts to make them easier to tighten down, else there's not enough room to turn the wrench to tighten them down. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase - but the $60 shipping seemed... a bit much, but the box and contents aren't exactly light.
