  1. With AMD's new Ryzen 7000 around the corner, I'm seriously tempted to upgrade my 8700k w/32GB DDR4 to a 7700x w/32 or 64GB DDR5. I'm mostly considering the 64GB RAM because the Syria theater currently uses a TON of RAM with Liberation (part of why I gave up on 3D is the performance and FoV just wasn't quite where I wanted it with that and it seems to be the best way to play the Apache), so I figured I'd plan on 64GB whenever I upgraded next. I have a 6800XT GPU right now, and since I don't play VR anymore (sent the G2 Reverb back), I get great framerates. But VR just... it was a really, really great way to play that head tracking alone just doesn't quite match (I have the Delan Clip and while great, it's just not VR). So, with AMD coming out with their new AM5 chips and 7000 GPUs (I doubt I need the GPU since I hope the 6800XT is good enough), I'm really ready to drop the cash on a new CPU/Mobo/RAM. Just want to make sure it'll have the desired effect of helping improve performance with DCS. Thanks folks.
  2. So, how would you rate the Orion2 vs a Thrustmaster Cougar? Seriously considering upgrading my stick and throttle to this F16EX system of theirs.
  3. Couple more.
  4. Here's my performance. 8700k, 32GB, 6800XT. F-16 w/2 tanks.
  5. Just loaded up an F-16 with two wing tanks and nothing else to just take a little tour of the new map. Fresh install of Windows 10 and DCS, memory usage is right around 20GB out of 32. I'm flying from Rio Gallegos west to the mountains, then flying straight north along the mountains. I have an i7 8700k, 32GB RAM, 6800XT. FPS are in the 120s-150s on default "HIGH" settings. Definitely some texture wonkiness and some edge aliasing with clouds and the like, but for an EA map, I think it looks pretty great. Can't wait to see where they go from here!
  6. Few months ago, I returned my G2 as I just couldn't get it to run as well as I wanted it to, even with a 6800XT. Of course, it's not the best card out there, and my processor is pretty old relatively. I decided I'd go the head tracking route and got the Delan clip stuff, and it's been working great. But I have to admit... I kind miss VR. I think once AMD's AM5 chips and the next gen of GPUs come out, if I can get both, I very well may try VR out again. It was so close to playable with the 6800XT, with a new CPU and cutting edge GPU, I really think it'll be doable. Just need to find a headset with an appropriately wider FOV and clarity. lol
  7. Up until the mission at the end, this was a 9/10. But SO MANY mistakes and stupid choices absolutely ruined the end for me. It went from a 9/10 to a 1/10. I thoroughly disagree this is better than the original - because of the idiocy of the final mission. Flares for radar guided missiles?? No CAP flying around? Disobeying orders, stealing an F-14 that just happened to not be destroyed and then beating 5th gen fighters in a dogfight??? It broke credulity and ruined it for me.
  8. So I've tried with the provided velcro bits attaching it to a headset I use, but it's not working as well as I'd like. Seems to be a bit too far down and they seem to obscure each other too often when looking down. What other options do you folks use for mounting your clip?
  9. Just placed order for a DelanClip kit, man that shipping is expensive. 24 pounds! Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk
  10. Really appreciate your input, thank you! Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk
  11. After doing some reading, I'm wondering if I'd have a better experience with a Pimax 5k Super? It's lower resolution, but much higher FOV and I might be able to push the refresh rate higher than with the G2 as well. 1440 each eye vs 2160.
  12. THAT'S the step I was missing. Thank you!
  13. I'm flying as the pilot and I'm moving my HMD cursor over the area I want George to look for targets, but his dashed cross reticle never moves. He still seems to see the targets, as sometimes the menu will pop up and I can scroll through them (be really nice if they had better target ID to discern friend/foe...), but I can't see where he's aiming. What step am I apparently missing?
  14. I think I'm going to get that DelanClip with camera package when I get paid. Certainly not as easy to play the Apache with a hat switch instead of head tracking. Also a lot cheaper than TrackIR. Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk What CPU do you have? I just have an 8700k. I also play Liberation exclusively, no MP either. 15. Took the G2 back for a return today. VR is pretty freaking awesome, I just don't have a system really capable of it at a price-point I can afford. Once this return is done processing (yay, 15% restocking fee...), I'll look into getting a TrackIR 5. Bastard is expensive and not easy to find. EDIT: <profanity> - just saw I forgot to pack that "World's Worst Excuse for Cable Management" clip thing that goes on the back of the headband.
  16. So, with a 6800XT, do you folks think switching to OpenXR over SteamVR would alleviate some framerate issues I've been having?
  17. I think I'd prefer non-1:1 tracking. Turning all the way around is a bitnof a hassle, even just looking down at your sides. Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk
  18. I have not, no. Never used it before. But one of the things I enjoyed about the headset the most was the head tracking. Freeing up the trim hat switch on my Cougar is also pretty nice.
  19. I started the return process for the G2 today. Could take a few days before HP gets back to me and lets me know if they approve the return. The off-center lack of clarity is really the biggest issue. And my 6800XT just quite isn't up to snuff when it comes to a DCS Liberation campaign at keeping a consistently smooth framerate. I'm going to order TrackIR instead.
  20. So, I've been thinking. I think I'm going to return the G2. The 6800XT just isn't up to the G2s needs for performance. I mean, it's acceptable, but I also have a slight issue with the headset. The center clarity is great - and VR is a pretty awesome situation. But... The edge clarity is very lacking. It feels like the center 35% is great but it's progressively worse as you go to the edge. I move my eyes far more than my head, and that being the case, the edge clarity is a big issue for me. Especially using the F16 and Apache - it's very difficult to boresight the head sight on the Apache because of the FOV and lack of edge clarity. The FOV is also a bit lacking for what I'd hoped. The one thing that I DO really like is the 1:1 head tracking. To that end, I think I might just return the headset and go with a TrackIR or something like that. Unless you folks know of another headset that can resolve my issues I listed above. Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk
  21. I didn't seem to get any nauseating feelings while using the headset in DCS (F-16 and Apache), but I did notice that after I took it off and I moved my head around quickly or my eyes that I felt a little uncomfortable.
  22. Sounds like my 8700k might be holding me back a bit.
  23. Well, looking at Performance Monitor in task manager, I'm almost completely maxed out in my 32GB RAM. That might be why - need to look at my Liberation settings and see if I can get that down a bit. VRam is also pretty pegged, though the GPU is only at around 70% and CPU at 24%. With the alleged rasterization performance of the next gen of GPUs, it looks like I may have jumped into the one right before they were truly capable of 4k and good FPS by default.
  24. It must be just Syria and the number of units. I did a quick mission with a single EWR that I use for testing with the F-16 on Caucuses and the in-game FPS is telling me I'm getting between 45 and 60fps. SteamVR is getting me about 15.4ms.
