  1. ME-110 or JU-88 nightfighter version. OR HE-219.
  2. Just ordered. Can’t wait for the nightfighter version. :)
  3. You are correct. It was actually Stearmasdriver. You said “if you can take off, fly the mission and then land confidently with the hornet, you'll be able to do thatwith any other fixed wing aircraft within a couple of tries.” There, you were confusing sim life with real life. In real life, you don’t get a couple of tries, and even in sim life, it doesn’t mean you can fly just any other fixed wing aircraft. There is a lot of difference in flying a plane, and being able to fight with that plane. In real life, overconfidence kills. In sim life it leads to delusions of grandeur.
  4. You are the one who said “The downside is you won't really learn how to fly.”
  5. You make it sound so easy. Why was my heart pounding when I did my first solo? This is speaking as someone who started out in a Cessna 150 and has flown pretty much all the Cessnas , with the exception of the jets and crop dusters. I sold my last glider to a retired Marine Hornet pilot. He told me it took some getting used to seeing the control surfaces moving all the time, without any input from him. That is what FBW does. I have never seen that in the DCS version of the Hornet. So, I have to wonder if DCS models FBW correctly. Does anyone know more about that? One other thing. “within a couple of tries”?? LMAO. You obviously aren’t talking about real flying, or know nothing about it. Or both.
  6. The hornet flies itself; you're just the weapons system actuator. That's the upside The downside is you won't really learn how to fly. I guess there are flight simmers who don’t see the need to learn how to FLY. Learning how to drop a bomb or fire a gun is sufficient. There are several other flight sims around to scratch that itch.
  7. If you haven’t flown sim planes before, start with one of the jet trainers. That’s what they are for…training. Then, try something more difficult and complicated.
  8. Thanks, that was what I suspected.
  9. I can’t find anything about this for the Mosquito. Enlighten me.
  10. As long as we are talking about avionics, let us not forget about the air intercept radar.
  11. A few years ago, a glider club ran an experiment in which one group of new student pilots were given the normal flight training syllabus. Another group got all of their training on a glider flight sim. Both groups soloed in about the same amount of flight hours. Today, the military is using flight sims in their basic training with positive results. I can tell you, as a private pilot with several hundred hours as PIC, and thousands of flight sim hours, I know I would not have any great problems flying something like an airliner. Actually, I have a few hours on full motion sims in the A300 and a Saudi AWACS 135. Both built by top of the line aerospace companies. Now, being able to take off, fly around, and land is totally different than being able to fight in something like an F/A-18C, for example.
  12. The DCS terrains just keep getting better and better. The Marianas is gorgeous. But, what is the long game here? Are we to see WWII American, British , and Japanese ships and planes fighting in the Pacific, in the future? I have to wonder how available detailed information on Japanese aircraft is. Detailed enough to meet DCS’s high standards? Or, will we see present day battles with the Chinese? With an old and a new Marianas map, it seems we could have both. Of course, we will need some new planes. The Corsair is coming along. How about the Wildcat, Hellcat, Avenger, Dauntless, Lightning etc, etc, etc? I’m getting old. Don’t wait too long. ps I, too, want that Crusader bad.

  14. So many great planes coming . So little time to fly. (Sigh)
  15. If you want to see which is more anticipated, do a survey.
  16. Until I get moved, I am not able to test the new clouds on my PC. But, I have watched pretty much all of the vids on YouTube. I suspect the vid makers all tried to maximize the amount of clouds, in order to give us a good look at them. They are impressive, and ED is to be congratulated. I’m just hoping that, when I am able to try them, there will not be so many everywhere all the time. In RL, there are days and nights with no or very few clouds.
  17. IL-2: Lots of icing. Very little cake.
  18. My squadron, VFP-62, flew the RF-8G. The pilots always launched with afterburner.
  19. No, it would be as much fun as I think. Il2 1946 gave me a taste. I love the one on one aspect of the night fighter. Plus the precision required for the takeoff, the hunt, and then flight home. Imagine flying with the bomber stream, finding and attacking the enemy night fighter.
  20. Nuff said.
  21. I wasn’t in VFP-62 during the Cuban Crisis, but I was in 1966-67 as a photographer’s mate. I have always wanted to fly the Crusader. Sooner the better.
  22. I just downloaded some user files to my knee board@ C/user/name/saved games/openbeta/kneeboard/aircraft/fa-18c_hornet. But, they don't show up on the knee board when I am flying the Hornet. What am I doing wrong? Please. Thanks,
  23. The Early Access guide doesn't include features that were added later. I was looking at some videos, tonight, and found some by "GNRT" that have tables at the end that recap the steps he went through in the video. These are more akin to what I was looking for. I have attached a sample. Now, I need to find out how to get these onto the kneeboard. Thanks for your help.
  24. Rudel, are you referring to Chuck’s manuals, or something else? I was imagining a format similar to a start up or before take off list, for example, to have on your kneeboard. Could you direct me to an example of what you mean? Thanks,
