  1. Yes, but the systems demonstrated in the video are from the 80s, as far as I’m aware the symbology on the -A was similar, by the radars were not solid state and a little more unreliable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. What I like about that video above is the demonstration of the ground avoidance system. Drawing the radar returns on the VDI like that for something from the 60s... impressive! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Great picture! And yes, I was expecting a modex of 505 but to be honest it doesn’t much matter - it’s still an awesome bird! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Wonder if we will hear The AI B/N hum “Downtown” after weapon hit on target? BTW, I’m still going to call him Morg. Original and best. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. In the long term, you can have a Viggen beginning the picture with ELINT pod, the A6 doing the Radar-Scanning for surface mapping or poor-weather reconnaissance, and the onde day we will get the F14 to do TARPS. Maybe if there was a way to copy the results to the kneeboard as per the Viggen, and then for multiplayer purposes, pass the photo to a file and allow your virtual squadron to read the “take” from the shots presented. BDA, reconnaissance etc is doable as long as there’s a means to easily grab and share the pictures/slides taken. Think like the video export facility for the F14’s LANTIRN pod (which someone could use as a “poor mans TARPS”. Also, one aspect of the A6 role is the mining/naval strike role. Will be able to drop sea mines from the intruder? If so, that would add a very interesting new mission type. I’ve heard of it done around Iraqi ports during GW1, so it’s not as if there’s no precedent for the mission. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I think it actually would have had longer time on station, the only reason the KA-6 was ditched is because they were done for and they didn’t want to have another round of life extension on them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. My understanding is that it orbited the carrier and was there to keep those in orbit overhead topped up, and to prevent anyone from being fuel starved Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. They can start with the -E, and move on to other models later. I personally think modelling the -A would be cooler, but am realistic in that the -E will probably get initial treatment Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. As wierd as it sounds, I’d love to at least have the option to fly the Tanker variant. Imagine having to come and catch a navy buddy stuck on fumes by leaving your tanker track and going and getting them. Imagine the challenge of having to maintain a speed and attitude to keep the aircraft steady, or helping a greenhorn by changing speed slightly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I hadn’t meant to quote a movie. It was more intended to be a reference to the events leading to Morg’s exit from the book ;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Someone can voice Morg, as long as he says something along the lines of “man hope we don’t catch a golden BB today” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. My mistake! Good to know we have at least a little more options then. Perhaps it will satiate the folks wanting a Prowler, seeing as how that’s about as much as it would offer to DCS until ECM and jamming is more accurately modelled. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Given the equivalent cross-over for the F-14, I’d honestly expect an -E. That means I don’t expect a STANDARM as by then HARMs we’re going to Prowlers and Hornets. At the same time, I’d personally prefer that we get the earlier models, I suspect that a 70s/80s era Intruder is more likely given the surrounding environment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. In addition, the radar made the A6 an all-weather bomber. It’s DIANE system allowed you to “see” the terrain on the VDI even in poor vis. The Tomcat will able to hold its own in good weather daylight bombing; you will be hosed if the weathers awful or it’s at night Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Apologies for asking a dumb question or two, but modding things like smoke and trees is new to me. Assuming they don’t break IC, can anyone tell me how much of a hot on performance it will take? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Yeah, but if we can add NVGs to the list under the basis they were trialled, is there any evidence that photo pods were trialled on AJS-37’s ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I am unaware of any kind of speed hold, but I’d guess if there was, the APC would be the one for it. It’s an automatic throttle for landing, and the tomcat and hornet all have different terminology but similar functionality. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. If the usage was similar to the KA-50 or harrier where the crew chief has to “install” them, that makes sense. That way the mission editor can decide on availability. But if we are talking fantasy loadouts, how about a photo recce pod to make the most of the “s” in the Viggen’s title? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. That is some awesome work. Wish I was that accurate with bombs in the skyhawk. Manual Bomb delivery a real challenge Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Ah. I take it that means no chance of further works to the reconnaissance mission? I’d love to see the Swedish equivalent of a TARPS pod (not for ELINT, but for IMINT) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Im Probably the weirdo bit now that the A is well on its way, that means we are a step closer to a TARPS pod. Having the ability or do recon missions in an A model as I split the sky open across a dangerously defended hostile zone with nothing but speed, prayers and a camera pod just sounds like a step out of the “usual” experience. If you can see the photos afterwards, it could make for some fun multiplayer scenarios where someone can do photo recon, to allow better Intel on the next sortie. Then send another TARPS run for BDA after that, and so on... The Viggen brought ELINT to DCS. Let’s see if the Tomcat can bring IMINT. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Sorry for asking something dumb, but what’s left to be done on the Viggen, or is this more a case of bugs to be fixed and modelling tweaks? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Concur, IIRC the manual seems to state you taxi in BER, then once straightened up on the runway, flip to NAV and hit the “reference button”. This makes the fine tune alignment on the compass, one of the elements you need for an accurate INS fix. TERNAV helps, but gets bad if you are flying over flat land/sea, as it stops getting enough meaningful data to detect drift. Don’t forget also, you can input wind speed and direction if it’s known. It will help the BK90s compensate a little for the wind drift. Also ensure the QFE is set for the target area. The BK90 takes its dispersion altitude from good initial data. You have to tell it the correct height it started at ;) But yeah, expect a wider dispersion during higher wind days. All you can do is use more BK90s to compensate (ie increase the concentration of bomblets), change the attack direction to counter the wind a little (avoid dropping perpendicular to the wind to reduce its effect on the bomblets), or use a different weapon. There’s a reason the Met Office is consulted by pilots during briefing and not just on the tarmac :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. The A4 mod is fully capable of landing on a carrier, and they bodged a script in to make it work with the hook. Just not anything that requires radio, so the SuperCarrier crew don’t interact to well with it. I see no reason why this would be a problem for the buccaneers. I would be more concerned with a working navigator’s position and AG radar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Please enquire further when you can. Enquiring minds wish to know ;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
