  1. Hi, I moved from DCS 1.5.6 to 2.5.0 a few days ago. I updated my Nvidia drivers to the latest version 398.11 (see attached screenshot). So far all is fine. However I heard about DCS using Vulkan API. I'm wondering if my current 398.11 drivers do come with Vulkan API? If not should I download Vulkan API and install them if that is possible? My specs are in my signature.
  2. Hi, I already have a 256 Gb internal SSD which came built-in when I bought my PC. I plan to buy a new 256 Gb SSD. I'm not a DYI guy and don't like wiring, etc. So I plan to buy an external SSD. Is there any drawback to buy an external SSD vs internal SSD, especially in terms of performance?
  3. Hi, Thanks to all the team for DCS 2.5 that I just installed. Great job! My wish: please tweak the light. The vivid colors of the scenery is nice but the light is way too bright IMHO. It "burns" the textures of the cockpit and the 3D external model. I lowered the gamma in the options but it's not as good as before...
  4. I voted for Stable Release because I like robust and stable things. However I can see that the vast majority prefer the Open Beta, probably to be able to fly the Hornet in Early Access I believe.
  5. Although the name changed a bit, the solution was right under my eyes : "Show Hints at Mission Start"!
  6. Hi all, I'd like to start every mission without the Controls Indicator and Crew Status panel. I know there are keyboard shortcuts but want to avoid them. In the past, it was possible to turn off by default the Crew Panel Status in Options > Special tab > UH-1H > check box, show hints IIFC but it seems it is no longer available in 2.5.0 And regarding turning off the Controls Indicator by default, I just can't refind the solution but I know it's possible?
  7. For guys who will read this thread later: I solved the crash problem by updating my drivers to the latest version.
  8. Hi, I upgraded from 1.5.6 to 2.5 stable and got the loading time problem. I renamed C:\Users\Simicro\Saved Games\DCS as recommended. And now DCS crashes. dcs.log-20180616-210902.zip

  11. Hello, Thanks, I arranged / updated the FAQ where needed.
  12. I welcome civil aircrafts for DCS
  13. It was not by intent to raise the discussion about the release date (already debated in many other threads) which is only one item in the FAQ.
  14. hansangb, thanks for the US cultural note. Interesting. I did not know.
  15. Hello hansangb, Thanks for your heads up/warning. I will however stick to the Wags'/ED Letter because it is official and wide communication. For most people, I believe that a bold information ("coming weeks!" or "within two months") is OK.
  16. Hi all, As DCS 2.5 is close, for convenience I compiled several thread discussions into a FAQ. The goal is to be aware of what is going (likely) to happen, especially for mates that have not followed forums activity and recent news. Available topics are: When DCS 2.5 will be released? Which DCS version and branch will turn into 2.5 stable? Will DCS 1.5 modules work in DCS 2.5? Will DCS 1.5 campaigns work in DCS 2.5? How does performance in DCS 2.5 compare with 1.5? Is DCS 2.5 CPU or GPU critical? Will DCS 1.5 still work after end of life? If you spot something that is not correct or need nuance, constructive feedback is welcome. Contribution (writing a question / answer) is also welcome, but please note that I would like to keep the content simple and understable (not too technical) by everybody. Total number of topics will not exceed 20, and answers should be 1 to 5 lines maximum, for ease of reading. PS: the FAQ is published on my new forum, but still available for everybody to read. You can comment on my forum or here as you prefer.
  17. From another thread:
  18. Hello SilentSierra, Aluminum Donkey gave excellent and wise advice  Try to get a GTX 980 Ti on the second hand market is the best value for money IMHO in your case. Regarding CPU, you (we) have a good one. Have you overccloked it? I did not see you replying.
  19. Hi all, I am launching a new website (forum): https://www.desktopsimulators.com If you think the approach is of interest, please register and leave a message in Feedback and Suggestions Thank you for your visit!
  20. mithandra, I understand your feeling and I feel the same ;) If you want to support ED development effort for Caucasus / DCS 2.5, just buy a module or a map from them.
  21. My stick is a CH Fighterstick mounted on a Microsoft Force Feedback 2. It's a MOD. And yes content. Maybe you should open a new thread in the Input Output forum? Otherwise we divert too much from the original subject of this thread.
  22. I am amazed that for the price, it does not come with a 1080Ti
  23. brianjmac: very nice and comprehensive explanation mate  I wish I could add reputation points to you but the system won't let me to :( BlueMax: I'm in the same case as brianjmac (except for the monitor model) and it's difficult to shoot myself in the foot but I would say that 144 Hz G-SYNC is not a must-have but a nice-have. If you have a powerful graphic card that can achieve a steady fps in all situations, never below 55-60 fps at 1440, and want to save money, then a 75 Hz will do. But think also that the monitor is one of your piece of hardware that is supposed to last the most, compared to other components. Regarding IPS vs TN: I prefer TN for the uniformity of the colours vs fidelity for IPS. That being said, as brianjmac said, TN has improved for colour fidelity and angle viewing.
  24. Yes TN. ASUS PG278QR 27" 2K @165 Hz G-Sync
  25. To get ready for DCS 2.5, last month I upgradred From : 27" FHD 144 Hz + GTX 770 To : 27" WQHD 165 Hz G-SYNC + GTX 1080 I did not want to go 4K because I: 1) Did not want to buy a 1080Ti and instead keep the money to get G-SYNC 2) Want to run DCS WQHD with (nearly) all maxed out 3) Last longer in time with my 1080 and WQHD
