  1. Hello SiThSpAwN, Many thanks for sharing new pics  Much appreciated! New Caucasus looks gorgeous, sharp and contrasted :) while current Caucasus looks washed and there is like a haze. I also noticed that New Caucasus seems to have more "autogen" (trees). Despite more details and apparently higher texture resolution, could you observe a performance rise or is it the same as the current DCS 1.5?
  2. Hi, The limitation is currently as follows: I am wondering if the forum admin would be inclined to allow 1500 characters for the signature? I am missing some characters to add future DCS articles and reviews in my signature. You can see that my signature is rather discreet and condensed even if it uses a lot of characters (BB code for linking eats up lots of characters). Thank you.
  3. All right Johnny, and what is the distance between your eyes and the surface of your 34" monitor?
  4. Hi everyone, I have recently moved from a 27" Full HD (1920 x 1080) monitor to a 27" 2K monitor (2560 x 1440), that is a very good compromise IMHO between size and resolution. The next change will be in 4-5 years and I think that by that time, graphic cards will handle (very?) easily 4K. So I imagine that I will get a 32" 4K monitor. I guess that 32" is the maximum size for a monitor, for a regular desk usage? I'm not into home cockpit so I seat on a regular chair with a regular desk. The distance between my eyes and the current 27" monitor is 68 cm (27 inches). What do you think?
  5. Hello, I don't have exactly the same monitor as you but just a thought: have you recently updated your Nvidia drivers or control panel?
  6. All right Cibit, I understand for the rift... and for the horses too ;)
  7. Hello Cibit, I wish I had a wife like yours  I mean for understanding a bit our hobby and making gifts related to it ;) Is it the Rift that is more demanding? Because if your monitor is Full HD @ 60 Hz, you are already at the maximum since apparently you get solid 60 fps.
  8. Tomorrow is the day? Then I cross my fingers for you ;) If I recall correctly Strait of Hormuz will be released at the same time as DCS 2.5 And according to a community manager, we are getting "close" : see here
  9. Me too I was not into overclocking but basic overclocking is actually rather easy. In recent BIOS (I bought my rig late 2013), you just need to select the speed in a menu, restart your PC and see if is stable. I don't know if your i5-4430 (which does not have a "K") can be overclocked easily with the procedure I described above.
  10. Hello, For 4K you need a 1080Ti to have high/ultra settings with good fps. For 2K a 1070Ti or 1080 is perfect. Regarding your CPU, try to aim for at least 4 Ghz after overcloking. As I understand, for DCS, number of cores does not matter (yet). 16 Gb of RAM recommended. Even if no date is set yet, DCS 2.5 is supposed to be "close" according to a recent post by a community manager. At this time there is no hardware specs yet. You can wait for DCS 2.5 to be released first before upgrading. If you want to upgrade rapidly, keep in mind DCS 2.5 to avoid deception or multiple upgrades in a short time frame.
  11. You are most welcome mate. Nowadays, at the internet age, it is more and more difficult to try a monitor at a physical store before buying it. That's why consumers rely on consumers for feedback and information. I know the 24" version but did not investigate much on it since I was aiming for a 27".
  12. So I received today my ASUS PG278QR. So far, so good :) I got rid of the ghosting when scrolling black text on white background. Actually there is very little but just like on most monitors (I checked in a store) and maybe I pay too much attention to that. But nothing comparable with the Dell S2716DG that I returned. @Bitmaster: I now have the red light too, as a indication of GSync working ;)
  13. Yes I can imagine because me too I added RAM and changed the graphic card rencently and I was afraid too. But in the end, all went fine on the first try. I would advise to: 0) Watch youtube videos on installing a 1080 1) Touch a piece of metal "wired" to the ground to remove as much static electricity as possible from your body 2) Take your time 3) Observe, watch closely and take photos before dismounting the old card 4) Take your time to mount the new card 5) Take this opportunity to remove dust carefully inside your case, your PC will thank you. 6) Close the case 7) When all is fine after starting your PC, have a good beer to celebrate  Maybe it's too much but personally I felt more secured doing the above. I have a Fractal case with the blue light too. Normally, on the back of the case, you have 4 screws that you can remove manually (no tool required). Then you only need to slide the side of the case. Good luck mate, all will be fine :) Once done, please let us know ;)
  14. Sure I understand. Enjoy your new graphic card mate :) Same here ;) I use a regular desk and a regular chair.
  15. Gamers prefer 1920*1080 with 144hz and 1ms: indeed, and especially First Person Shooter gamers who play multiplayer because they need very high fps to react fast. For us flightsimmers, I think that 60-75 fps does already provide a great flight experience. Some won't agree but for me PCs and graphic cards are not mature yet (powerful enough) for 4K, with gaming/simming purposes, and in comfortable conditions. Furthermore if you go 2K, you will be able to keep your graphic card longer without having to upgrade. And going from Full HD to 2K is already a huge leap forward. I did the jump laterly and landscape, aircraft 3D models and cockpit gauges look so much nicer and sharper!
  16. 200% agree with you ;) My PC never crashed with Win 7!
  17. Hi everybody, I'm 47 years old, from Paris. I started to flightsim with Hornet 2.0 for the Macintosh. That was 22 years ago, in 1995. Since then MS Flight Simulator was my main sim until 2014 when I started DCS. I've flown a couple of years on Condor The Competition Soaring Simulator. Now I'm waiting patiently for the F/A-18C Hornet. That would allow me to link back to the origin to speak so. I had a lot of fun with Hornet 2.0 and I still like the cockpit.
  18. Yes you are. I would take the 75 Hz 2K
  19. Home (cockpit) sweet home ;)
  20. I remember the old discussion ;) I would say that in both cases you will be fine. 2K, 75hz is a good choice, 1070 or 1080 too. What are the specs of what you call "slightly better monitor"?
  21. Really? No. It is nice have but not must have.
  22. Ciao Automan, Thanks for your clear explanation. I understand now.
  23. Thank you all. So I will stay at 4.3 Ghz which proved rock-solid for several years. With my upgraded rig (RAM + GFX) I am now DCS 2.5 ready I believe and I hope I can last several years. Next time I will change the whole PC. By that time, hopefully CPU will default be at 5 Ghz.
  24. Hello, I don't understand the notice at the top of the forum. What are the StarForce servers & protection services?
