  1. At 7m/s crosswind, I could not land with full loadout at Nalchik. Well I DID, but not without skidding off the end of the runway. And the chute? Tried it once - BIG mistake :) I even tried dumping the whole loadout...just barely got to a halt a few inches from the end of the runway. With a blown nosewheel tire, of course ;)

@Windsortheater FFB-effects For old props I get good feedback and warning in all kinds of maneuvers, for choppers...hard to describe but it certainly helps. For jets? You mention loss of hydraulics and YES, that really shines through in the F-86F Sabre as handling gets sluggy. As for fly-by-wire compared to cable, I don't know really. Using FFB for the Mig-21 helps a LOT though, you can really tell before you're about to mess up a tight turn. So it saves lives! OR one can fly the Mig-21 according to the manual...and never learn how to fight in it ;) To sum things up about the FFB-effects: They really help in making the danger zone a comfort zone. FFB with Warthog or HOTAS? None that I know of  They'd get my money in a hurry if I found one :joystick:
  3. Nalchik is the worst of all places, go there and ace it! :)
  4. I'd have to say 7m/s is good for a sailing day with landlubbers aboard. It's "friendly" winds if you like. And about the nosewheel: it has happened to me as well :) Only thing to do when using chute is NOTHING, let it do the braking (for good or worse) and THEN release chute and finally, steer and then brake with wheel brakes. BUT I haven't tried 7m/s crosswinds myself yet...will NOW however :) And esb77: You gotta work on your people-skills, man. UPDATE: 7m/s is HEAVY crosswind in DCS. No way I could use the chute without bursting the tires. Or damaging something else.

I have the standard Microsoft FFB2 and it's a USB-connection. Works well, no need for any setup or profiles. I really hope you can get yours working ASAP. If NOT, then maybe some other FFB-joystick? The thing is, when I was new to DCS and hadn't even tried my old MSFFB2 yet, I was looking at the Saitek X52 and X55. They seem pretty nice with LOADS of buttons and a general very slick look. But they haven't got FFB! I mean WHY NOT?! For me, FFB is of great help. Especially in "demanding" aircraft like the Mig-21, L-39 and then the helicopters of course. You get good usable feedback when you're really pushing the envelope. But maybe I'm exaggerating this, maybe I'm not helped THAT much really. As I haven't tried the Saiteks I can't be fair. If anyone has tried both FFB and the Saitek range, feel free to give a balanced view on things.
  6. Good job :) And the FAB-250 is a clear favourite of mine. BOOM!

Man, that joystick sure is workable. Hell it's so workable I bought a spare one on e-bay. It's just the best there is if you're into FLYING :) And welcome to DCS, you'll never leave ;)
  8. We need timed fuses or sumtin' - I mean so we can continue flying manly ;)
  9. Stay safe, OK ;)
  10. @Golo: You too?! I mean I feel like the "new guys" in 1.5 are really really dangerous. Had to trim down a few things when I went over some old missions.
  11. Yeah, that makes more sense of it all. And the gunpods! They're fun to play around with even though I DO understand why they've never really been used. Just for spite I will try them in a dogfight again. The L-39ZA is such fun to mess around with :) EDIT: I got beaten to a pulp by Sabres all the time, gunpods or no gunpods. I could of course use missiles, but still - I'd be hard pressed to get a lock.
  12. Alright, case closed. But then...how are we to use the gun in dogfights? Sorry, had to ask - no need to answer ;) Jokes aside, I simply cannot get into a position in a dogfight where the gun gets unlocked. All I can do with it is steady and safe strafing, as soon as I get into a dogfight I simply lose the gun. Unless I press the BUTTON! I tried flying a guns-only fight against AI-piloted L-39ZAs and they had no issues, they use the gun very proficiently.
  13. This here button is listed as something like "unblock the guns" and I've been advised NOT to use it. Rightfully so I thought, because having pressed it earlier I developed a few problems. But now recently when I pressed it, I could fly around carefree for several minutes(!). So I'm reaching here but could it be that I've just abused the aircraft earlier and brought the system failures on by heavy handling instead of pressing this button? To the point here - anyone who REALLY knows russian? I can just read very simple texts, nothing else. See the pic, please do tell me what's written there :helpsmilie: Or give me a good talking to for breaking the rules and pressing this button! ;)
  14. I've had fires but not all the time. Sometimes it's only the the avionics that get knocked out and sometimes I just get a small warning-light flashing. But then again, fires DO happen a lot when compared to other aircraft.
  15. I have no actual data but I do know this from my own experience: the gun is useless in a dogfight. Why? Well the very second you bank or turn...the gun gets blocked by the weapons system :( You CAN hit the unblock-guns button, of course, but having done that you will eventually get system errors...followed by actual system failures...followed by you ejecting ;) I was even warned about this by a guy in this forum but I just shrugged him off, thinking it won't happen anything at all. But it did...so I was very stupid, I admit :) Another thing (while were talking stupid) is to use gunpods in a dogfight. That you can do but only use two. Four gunpods will produce such massive drag/weight that you just can't get anywhere near getting at the enemy. With two gunpods you can at least get on the tail of a Hawk. But you will have to shoot the Hawk full of lead for a LONG time before it crashes. Sorry for this long half-rant ;) I need to say that all this is MY take on things. It's not absolute undisputable facts, it's my OPINION on the matter.
  16. When I started with DCS in late 2014 I had an old MSFFB2 lying around from 2001. So I tried it for DCS (didn't fly anything since 2003 or something) and I was amazed at how well it worked for the Huey :) Now I have two MSFFB2s...for safety :)
  17. Good idea nonetheless - sometimes the simplest things are the best. Or rather, simple things ARE the best! ;)
  18. ALL aircrafts should have this, on the kneeboard, from the beginning. Great job
  19. You'll find it under User Files and Campaigns on the website. Yeah it took me a while, things needed tinkering all over! But I've now tested every single mission an absurd amount of times and I feel it's pretty damn fun. But hey, that's just me. Try it out yourself :joystick: If you manage to ace all the missions - well then I'd say you know how to fly and fight in the Albatros. 'Cause that's what this campaign is all about :) Feedback/problems: Keep it related to the campaign. If you can't get your pedals to work or you've lost your Saitek profile or curves or whatever...well you understand that has nothing to do with this campaign, OK? ;)
  20. To be fair, I think the the F-86 is pretty much complete now. Flew it a few days ago (last time was October) and I was VERY impressed. Yeah, eveything with the F-86 is real dandy now :)
  21. The default view is messed up in all aircrafts (well, for me at least). But as soon as the first cockpit zoomout is finished (right when you "spawn" inside the airplane), I click on "zoom normal" and voila, no stretchiness. Got zoom normal and zoom in mapped to my joystick and it really helps.
  22. GET BOTH! Life is for living :)
  23. Man you should watch "Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam (1987)". Great music, messed up war.
  24. Couldn't agree more. It's nitpickin' stuff mainly like "gimme this button" or "make this available" etc. The damn thing really FLIES :joystick: I'd say it's one of the tougher models to learn. And that ain't bad :)
  25. I give up, you win.
