Virpil Throttle V3 - analog mini stick
Johnny Dioxin replied to HC_Official's topic in VIRPIL Controls
Looks great to me and I will be having one. Loss of detente? Yup - would be nice to have, but deal breaker? No chance. That would be like a racing driver refusing a McLaren GTR because it doesn't have a sunroof. I'll programme in the switch points to afterburner and reverse thrust - I managed that well enough with my G940, so that the last couple of mm put it into AB - you can arrange it very easily with the software so that 100% pushes a virtual button (AB). That will do for me. From the videos I've seen (by Ralfidude, for example) the detentes as implemented were nothing to write home about, anyway. The more of you that won't have one, the better the chances of me gettinghold of one in the first batch of stock - so hate away, my friends.... :D -
Here you can see the difference:
-
It took a few hours until I got a reply - I had forgotten to put my order number in the ticket, though. Still a fast response. Anyway, I just got my refund from Paypal. Must admit, I was sorely tempted to just take the current throttle, but wth - can use my X56 throttle until July (if I manage to get an order in on the first stock of throttles) and I'll just leave the refund cash on Paypal to use for that purchase, adding another 60 Euro. See, I can't believe that the only difference is adding an analogue mini-stick, because there's no way they would add 60 Euro just for that - they must have done more to it. The post on their forum isn't that clear about what they added or changed. Detentes gone and mini-stick added is about all that's obvious. Maybe I'm just getting too dopey in my old age... Edit: PS - forgot about this: Now that is more like it - sounds a fair increase to me ;)
-
I think the only way you will find out is to open a ticket and ask. I just got a response offering to refund my current throttle order and I'll have to order the new one, once it's available
-
Looking at that, you're getting the current version - the order date is March 2019 and you paid the full price for it (i.e. before they reduced it, today). I'd like to have the latest one, that's due in July, but I won't complain if I don't get it. At the end of the day, I did order the one that I'm getting and not the latest design - that I didn't know about it is not an excuse or reason to think anything is underhand - I just would prefer the new one.
-
I've asked on their forum, if it's possible to upgrade from the old to the new, for those who ordered after todays restock. Don't think it's really fair that they didn't mention we were getting the older one on the order page, they simply have the reduced price. I think it should be made very clear that there are two versions and which one is being ordered - not somewhere else, on a forum - especially as most people will be getting up and mashing F5 and not have time to go looking around for last minute changes to products. Give the customer the choice. OK - I've asked if I can upgrade to the "Mk.2" - see what the response is.
-
Now I have no idea which one I will be getting. There was no discount shown on the order, so I'm guessing it will be the new one - I'll send them an email and ask. ***edit:Look at the price you are paying - I was mistaken as I have paid the offer price, so I'm getting the older one Either way, I'll get a fantastic bit of kit :D
-
Ah, so pleased! Got my order through just now. I dragged my tired backside out of bed this morning at sparrow's fart, thumping headache and sat there mashing the F5 key - but nothing. It was only after a few minutes that I realised I had got up for 6am, when we are now on BST = GMT +1, so should have been up at 5am. I was soooo disappointed and angry with myself - but just before heading out, at 08:10, I decided to have a quick look - and there they were, all in stock! So I'm really chuffed. A total of £655.82 - not cheap by any stretch, but with the lack of decent HOTAS on the general market (tried and had to sell my Warthog as it was too hard for my arthritic fingers) I'm content I will have the best HOTAS going. :D Anyone want an X56, going cheap..... ;)
-
Good stuff :) Actually, I forgot that I already opened an account when Virpil first opened their online shop, so all set...
-
Useful info here. Restock is due tomorrow and I'm hoping to get the T50 grip/base & throttle, but I have no idea how much stock will be in and how quickly it will disappear. Really hope I can get in quick enough - probably won't be able to order until an hour after the scheduled restock time :( PS - is it best to open an account before then, or does it not matter?

Hello chaps :) Was wondering if someone with one of those cards would be willing to share their settings (a screenshot paints a thousand words ;) )? I have a new 2060 and the reviews all put the performance alongside the 1070Ti, so any settings that work well enough with either of those cards would be nice, thanks. I'm so used to sitting at the bottom end of everything with my 970 and 1060. TiA

Funnily enough, as keen as I am to try my RTX 2060 with the Rift in DCS World, I've not yet had time to do it, I've just been so busy with non-PC stuff. I don't have 4k - but I will definitely be testing the performance in VR soon. Anyway, I am going to keep my order for the Rift-S and see what the reports on the Index are like. If it's up to snuff, I'll keep the order and get it on my credit card instead of cash. Mrs is not keen to deprive me of my headset (we had a little chat since my post and she's very keen for me to keep my orders - very nice of her! :D ). My order isn't due to be confirmed until 31st August, and by that time I should have enough info on its performance and required hardware to make an informed decision. Though it would have been nice to know before I get the Rift, that's the way it goes...

I wanted to order Index and Lighthouse only, but didn't have that option. In order to get Lighthouse, I had to order the whole kit at £919/$1,000 I may have to cancel one or the other (Index or -S) as Mrs wants a new kitchen, but I'm torn on which one to cancel. If I knew my 2060 would run DCSW okay on the Index, I'd stick with that - but as things are, it would be a gamble. May have to play it safe and go with Rift S. I was laughing away this morning at the usual silly YouTube videos and their titles about Index and -S (Rift-S is not an upgrade! We've been conned! etc - who said it was an upgrade at all? I don't remember any Oculus staff saying this). And people are trying to advise others what to buy, when we know almost nothing of the Index - just specs alone, and not even all of that. What concerns me is the tens of thousands of people who watch and are influenced by these armchair experts (the same armchair expert types that have hindered the acceptance of VR, I would add).

Introducing the VKB-Sim ‘Modern Combat Grip’ (MCG)
Johnny Dioxin replied to rrohde's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
OK - I finally caved and reserved one. It is very expensive for me, but luckily I have a little over just now, so I'm very much looking forward to making another 27 profiles for my DCS aircraft  Seriously, though - very pleased to finally be able to order one (on 15th June, hopefully). Will use it with my X56 throttle and sell the X56 stick. -
Complete Fresh Install Performance
Johnny Dioxin replied to Johnny Dioxin's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Don't know why this has been moved to "Bugs & problems" because it isn't either. Someone has too much time on their hands! (and likes people having to search for their own posts) - a reason why I'm seldom seen here nowadays. -
That looks like a good option - thanks for the link. I bought some in-ear buds myself which arrived yesterday, for the S. On first test they are not that good for music - but that's okay, I have to test them with sims yet. PS: Only 16 days.... :pilotfly:
-
I caved - reserved an Index full set-up :helpsmilie: Mrs Brix says she's fine with me having a Rift S and an Index - so happy days! :D By the time it gets round to my order/despatch date, I will already know if it's a goer or not, so can confirm or cancel then. Looking forward to it - just hope my new RTX 2060 has the oomph required for Index on DCSW 2.5, though I will try and use it with Composite rather than SteamVR.

Complete Fresh Install Performance
Johnny Dioxin replied to Johnny Dioxin's topic in Game Performance Bugs
It does make sense - but is it worth it? Copying will take longer than a reinstall, but the main reason I was asking is because I have had some issues with the upgraded install - such as the sim demanding an activation for my BS2 module every time I start it, despite having activated it in January 2018, after the update to 2.5. Unfortunately support weren't interested, so I have to try and help myself. If I copy it across, this will likely continue, if I do a fresh install, maybe it will be okay - but then I will have to deactivate/reactivate other modules and it's a bit of a PITA - especially when it starts playing up (as with BS2, for which I now have a single activation remaining and don't want to have to wait a month if things go pear-shaped again) and might affect other modules, too. Think I will do the new install, though - at least I won't have any dregs hanging around. -
I have a 1TB SSD coming today and I'm seriously considering doing a completely new install of 2.5 on it, rather than simply copying my current one over - which was an update to 1.5.8 Has anyone actually done this and noticed any improvement in performance? I'm not talking about SSD compared to a mechanical drive, I'm talking about a fresh 2.5 compared to updated from 1.5. Speed of install doesn't bother me, I usually get a good 8.5 to 9MB/s transfer speed, so no longer than a couple of hours at worst for a complete install from the server. Chars :)

I've just bought the PG map - so thanks to everyone in this thread for the SP missions.
-
A downer for me on Index is the probability of being tied to Steam. If I have to have Steam running every time I use it - I would give it a miss, regardless. Others may be prepared to do that - I'm not. Especially when using Home games. I have Steam running only when I absolutely have to - even then where possible I don't use Steam VR (opencomposite does a better job so far) for Steam games.
-
Rift S pre-ordered today :D Amazon are still delivering on the 21st (and have a much simpler and more reliable returns service - just in case). I watched a YT video yesterday, of the opening & set-up and the IPD went up to 72. Wondering if that is partly what Oculus were talking about, when they said they were listening to customer's concerns. Anyway - well chuffed! Just about to order an RTX 2060 to replace my 1060/6 as well.... happy days :)
-
Ah thanks - that is good news. ***I've just spent a while searching and haven't found anything but people saying it won't be possible. I'll keep looking, though - I'm thinking they are talking about using the current Touch with the new tracking and of course that is very unlikely to work - but if we have the sensors all set up, I don't see why it should be an issue at all.
-
I wasn't defending Oculus - merely stating the facts, but a lot of people live in fairy-dairy land, so can't be helped.
