  1. It depends on the opponent. From my experience: Anything which shoots back is extremely dangerous and effective at doing so when it's AI controlled. E.g. Ka-50 will get you with Vikhr as soon as it can point its nose at you, one shot, one kill. I found the only way to engage them is to fly high directly over them and then dive at almost 90 deg straight down. Quickly get an AIM-9 off and then yank the stick in your stomach. Just hope his wingman doesn't get an angle at you. Forget about the GAU. When there is more than one shark, although you may get the first, it will generally get you too low and too close to avoid the second's Vikhr or gun. I found Su-25 easier provided you spot them first get an energy advantage and keep them in sight.
  2. That would be awesome! I totally agree with you that's how missions should be briefed. Can't wait for your post!
  3. Well, you can. LUA editing, I forgot exactly which file, but it was posted on the Black Shark forum a long time ago. It allows different appearance of labels at different ranges for several unit categories. Ah here you are: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=662452&postcount=10 But I agree with previous posters that any form of label usage is not realistic and an immersion killer. You could use it for training purposes I suppose, just don't get used to them too much. You'll have trouble when flying online.
  4. Uhm, why would an optical sensor based seeker NOT track a "dead" target? Is the Mav really THAT intelligent? Or is it an arcade style artifact/bug? My point is: in reality I don't think Mavericks will distinguish vehicles based on their combat-readiness level, possibly the lack of a heat signature in case of a long-dead tank, but even than a little sun light will give the metal a temperature difference wrt the ground. I think the eyeball plus sound tactical procedures and memory are still the only reliable methods in distinguishing a live target from a dead one. After all, there must be reason for that piece of flesh in the cockpit. Please enlighten me, if it's different... I suppose we have to assign this the label WIP, but I do hope ED makes this aspect realistic as well.
  5. Thanks sinwagon. Is it really that... empty? I mean there are soo many unmapped functions. Whaaooh without a clickable cockpit this sim would be completely impossible.
  6. When anything happens in a mission which you think might be worth a forum post then SAVE THE TRACKFILE!!! It doesn't take more than two clicks (IIRC) and gets you better answers in case you do decide to ask. So just be safe and always safe those trackfiles whenever something weird happens. Just my $ 0.02

  8. As of 1.0.2 there is a completely new sound engine, so don't expect any mods from before to still work. You can however play around with the volume and low pass cutoff frequencies for a each category of sound sources you hear from within the cockpit. It's all .lua editing. I did that with good results, but it's a long time ago. A search resulted in this sound FAQ. Good luck!
  9. Where did you report this exactly? Plus I think we'll see a solution with the promised compatibility patch between Black Shark and Warthog. But I'll be happy to sign your petition...
  10. Cool, I didn't know the "at my SPI" part... it's not in the manual, is it context sensitive? Only available if you're currently broadcasting? I'd definitely be interested in a track file/video or at least a precise walkthrough for that. Thanks!
  11. It seems, what we need is a radio command: "Engage my SPI"... That's much faster than Kes' second method and the first with Broadcast your SPI doesn't work for AI. So another feature wish... Too bad ED as frozen the feature list :( But for those with a programmable HOTAS/Gamekeypad it maybe feasible to program a macro to do the second method automatically?
  12. Uhmmm, MadDog, what is that "s" doing behind Warthog in your sig????!!!!!
  13. First question: No. Second question: yes. ;) Flying the black shark (and generally helis) is done with a long moving stick, the cyclic. Heli pilots fly more on cyclic position than force. About the same holds for WW2 aircraft. Only some modern jets have a force sensing stick. It's quite a different experience and more suited for pulling a constant amount of g's. Pulling g's is not your priority in the shark however. So for WWII, general aviation, helis and of course A-10 go with the Warthog. For F-16 and similar go with force sensing (FSSB modded Cougar would be my choice!). For build quality of the Warthog in comparison with the Cougar, read this review.
  14. I just got a message from Computeruniverse, also in Germany, that they've shipped mine. They still have the warthog as "lagernd" on their site, so be quick and good luck!
  15. Yeah, I like it as well. I work at the DLR, so lots of aircraft around . Of course I have TrackIR, couldn't agree more about it. Do you know of a good squadron in Germany who fly DCS? (Sorry for the off-topic question guys.) So on-topic again: you mention the insert key for the steeringwheel (where is that "wheel" by the way?). Am I right in assuming that would be equivalent to the NoseWheel Steering (NWS) button on the stick? Grüße aus Braunschweig :smilewink:
  16. +1 Thanks, I'll be using it as soon as the TM Warthog is in. Should be any day now, computeruniverse here in Germany should get their first batch tomorrow! I have promised myself not to touch the sim before plugging in the proper controller for it, so... I still have pretty much everything to learn about it, including the startup procedure.
  17. Can do. Attached are the SVGs. (Scalable Vector Graphics) Those can be edited with Inkscape for example. I already made a correction to the china hat, which should have forward and aft directions instead of up and down. Cheers! TM HOTAS Warthog Layout Sources.zip
  18. You mean like this? The text is a bit small for the desktop. Too many functions... But I made those pdfs mainly for printing anyway and that looks very clear. (also the colours are optimized for clarity after printing.)
  19. I just compiled a color-coded reference card for both the stick and throttle (including the manual images), excluding the buttons on the base of the TM WH, but those are labelled anyway. I put them in the attachment, can't seem to make embedding work. I got this done in preparation for the arrival of the beast beginning next week from computeruniverse.net here in Germany. I hope they keep their promise :)... Next will be a construction around my seat to properly install the thing! It sounds like a homepit, but the ordinary office chair must also remain useful as such, so a bit of engineering will be required to enable a click-and-go solution. Oh man, I can't wait!! :joystick::joystick::joystick: Edit: Small correction to the throttle layout. 20. The 1.0.2 patch broke it...
  21. Super! Danke schön!
  22. Get rudder pedals!!!;) No seriously, there is no real substitute. And where have you found that price (369,90€) for the Hog? I only found 399€ here in Germany.
  23. Quite right! I'd hate to learn one profile and then have to switch to another. Otherwise it's of course a real pity to have to say goodbye to the good ol' Cougar... But maybe I'll still use it for other sims
  24. From which bomber? SU-25T? Is that possible in MP (with FC2 and BS combination)? That would be awesome!! The AI is most likely too stupid to use the player's laser designator I would think...:(
  25. Same here! Can't wait to have that monster on my desk! I just don't want to "spoil" the experience by flying with "inadequate" harware :music_whistling:
