Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS - how do YOU use rudders?
PhoenixBvo replied to Treudd's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Exactly. Think of your GAU-8. With some practice you can neatly spread fire across a column using proper rudder pedals. Basically, every dynamic situation where you need to point your nose at something requires rudder input. Also crosswind formation takeoff would be next to impossible without proportional rudder input. The toebrakes help you to control turns during taxi and to stay on the runway while nosewheel steering is turned off. And perhaps you want to fly the KA-50 or DCS:<US fixed-wing fighter> some time? -
Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS - how do YOU use rudders?
PhoenixBvo replied to Treudd's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
TM Warthog is built for realism, realism means rudder pedals, period. Sorry, not the answer you were looking for, but true...;) -
With the current version, I have zero problems with it. (And no I don't work for Thrustmaster :) )
-
You're right of course. But functions like twisting the stick axes, modifying the response curve in-flight and calling external programs like TS, TrackIR, VAC, fraps etc. are still valid reasons to use a TARGET profile. I just meant to say, I use the paddle as a modifier to implement these.
-
My guess would be the keyboard bindings in your "C:\Users\<name>\Saved Games\DCS Warthog\Config\Input\A-10C\keyboard\" folder have been reset by the patch. Also check the joystick folder if you use DX buttons as well.
-
With the TM Hotas you could also leave the in-game curve linear and apply a curve in TARGET. The advantage is that you can adjust the curvature in-flight and add other functions to the controller via the stick paddle switch for example. You might wanna take a look at the controller profile in my sig.

Left side would be wind too :)

Flying realistically doesn't mean you always take off with full tanks. Depending on payload and mission requirements I sometimes fly with just 50%. I never ran out of fuel yet... In the case of battle damage other system failures tend to cause my flight to end sooner than a punctured fuel tank :)...
-
Exactly, and if the use is also for AAR then switching your curve makes a lot of sense. It changes your pilot gain thereby helping to avoid overcontrolling the plane. I use curve switching with my TM Warthog. The link to my WH profile in the sig below is broken, so I've attached the zip to this post directly. TM_Warthog_Profile_DCS_A-10C.zip

Trying to find that out at the moment, honestly haven't thought about it before. Uhm, Eddie don't forget about finding out about this question, OK? :)
-
There is really no point in making the thing any harder than necessary (it remains a simulation anyway, so the RL control sensitivity is an unknown for us anyway). Get those axis curves set up correctly, it does make a big difference trust me.
-
OK, thanks for your insightful answers. So, is this directional ECM signal strength modelled in the sim?
-
I doubt the developer of the AN/ALQ-131 (Westinghouse) really built such a handicap into their product. If so, then the next question would be whether that has been modelled in the sim?
-
Thanks Eddie, thought so. Would be a very cool addition, is it planned? I mean the IFF, and on what priority level/time horizon ;)?
-
Do we have a functional Squawk transponder on board in the A-10C? And if yes, where are the controls for it and can I somehow see the codes of other A/C?
-
You know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when..
PhoenixBvo replied to HAVOC131's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Well, I actually have that when viewing a moving video. When there's something leaving the screen, I'd try to follow it by moving my head, then I check for the green TrackIR status LED and reach for the HOTAS button to toggle it on! -
You need at least 12,000ft of height above the target to properly employ an LGB or GBU in general. At that height tossing makes no sense. So, I'd say no.
-
No, height of function is the height above ground at which the weapon triggers its function. In this case, to release the bomblets. Height of fall might be the total difference in height between release and impact, but that is not what is meant by HOF.

+1 Thanks Paul! Great graphics! One more error detected: on page 19 the white hot images for the emplaced gun and the truck-mounted one are exchanged. EDIT: actually, on close inspection of that page, there were more pictures shuffled around. Take a look at my attempt to fix it in the attached version. Air Defenses V1.2.1.pdf
-
Correct, mostly. Kinetic energy is 1/2*m*v^2, you have potential or height energy as well (m*g*h). The total energy of the bomb is the sum of these two. It will decrease during its flight due to drag. You're right that pulling G's does not affect the trajectory other than making it less accurate. What you do by pulling up before release is to change the initial orientation of the bomb. This changes the trajectory to intersect the terrain at a point further from the aircraft, i.e. increasing range. High aircraft velocity, of course increases the effect of this upward orientation.

dooom, MGRS has a systematic arrangement of grid square lettering. If you don't have a map at hand during the mission, at least make note of the two letters (GG for example) at the border between spheroids (= 38T for example) which are relevant for your mission plan. The first grid square letter changes with longitude, the second with latitude. Use that to decide which spheroid the coordinate is in. But yes, I actually fly with the massive printed TC1 map on my wall. :) EDIT: added some MGRS reference docs: Military Map Reading 201 DMA Technical Manual; Datums, Ellipsoids, Grids, and Grid Reference Systems

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0091938066/ref=tmm_hrd_new_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=new Shipped from the UK. I ordered from the EU. Perhaps it's not available everywhere. -
What you could also do in order to take every change you wish into the new version is to apply the method I described below. Just filter for all file types you're interested in.
