Question on the use of the collective brake
PhoenixBvo replied to sobe's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
What would you call the route following mode then? That most certainly is an automatic flight mode capable of controlling all 6 degrees of freedom and steering along a heading or course line. You should try disengaging the FD (flight director) and engaging route following (ROUTE-DESCENT selector on the collective). Assuming you have the stabilizer modes switched on, this will put the aircraft in fully automatic flight mode and let it fly the waypoint route if you have a waypoint selected in the PVI-800. Concerning the AP function when changing the collective, I'm not sure whether it temporarily disengages, would be nice if someone from ED could clarify that... -
Actually now that I'm thinking about it, it wouldn't ruin playback at all: the trk only records the stick position in-game, not the physical controller input. So it doesn't matter how you generate the in-game cyclic stick signal, including the "no-force-feedback-trimming" work-around. Otherwise tracks wouldn't be compatible even now, afterall we already have two trimming systems... Follow me? :)
-
Settings should be stored in the .TRK anyway to keep compatibility with features in new updates. I hope ED does that...
-
I have switched back to the old system. Losing control of the cyclic is worse than a little jerkiness. My proposal is for yet another trim option: Combine the two options by shortly having the stick output frozen until either: - you recenter or, - a time limit is exceeded. (whichever happens first) That way you never loose control for long in a stressful situation and you have the ability to smoothly apply the new trim setting. Let players set the time limit and the recenter zone limits to suit their personal flying style and everybody would be happy!:smilewink:

Question on the use of the collective brake
PhoenixBvo replied to sobe's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Interesting issue you pointed out there, 72AG_terror. It would be more realistic (and easier) to have some additional functionality for the CB: For those of us who use a cougar, maybe its possible to program it to automatically disengage the Collective Break when you move your throttle axis (set to collective in-game of course) and then re-engage it shortly afterwards. Even better yet, is it possible to program this in some .lua file? Anyone knows how to do this or if its possible at all? I'll take a look at it myself as well. -
New Ordinance not available in rearming menu
PhoenixBvo replied to RichardG's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I noticed that in the 10xS-13 option there is the wrong picture of the weapons next to it. Does it correctly load only the S-13 to the inner hardpoints? (I don't have the new patch installed yet to try it) -
Only JUST too late LOL

Wrong forum buddy.... But try Hyperlobby: http://hyperfighter.sk/

I have received mine as well, finally. It has been stuck in the mail for three weeks though. Given the great stories about the sim and manual on this forum, I was getting a bit impatient.:) Just never had a package from the UK take so long before. (For the Dutchies: "Selekt Vracht" sucks!) Just wanna say to TFC/ED: put an option for express delivery on the webshop and perhaps a warning about unregistered mail... I'm still a happy customer given the great quality of both the sim and the manual, Cheers!

Tactics to attack targets in a forest
PhoenixBvo replied to Gadjuka's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Vielen Dank Feuerfalke, that's a good heads-up for multiplayer as well. Please ED, tell us the patch will deal with this issue... It is essentially a cheat and should be locked for clients and only be settable by the server. Also, is the AI line-of-sight being addressed? (Sorry if this has been answered somewhere already) -

Windows 7 Release Candidate: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx -
Well, I just got the hard cover edition from amazon.co.uk at 14.81 GBP. The sub title says: the man. the machine. the mission. But I believe the contents are equal to the other editions. Nice quality, sturdy paper, 16 pages of color photographs with really nice details of the mission, the Apache and situation in Afghanistan. Looks good so far! I haven't got time to read it yet, but I'll do that soon :).

Yep, accurate ballistics modelling. THAT's the kind of detail we love about DCS.

Not exactly... rotor RPM is held constant by the engine governer, even when applying rudder. If you allow me to explain: a rotor disk generates lift at the cost of torque, this torque is generated by the engine. A single rotor helo requires a tail rotor to counteract the torque from the main rotor. Why? Otherwise the helo would start spinning around its main rotor. Now, with two main rotors (holds for "chinook" configuration as well) you can use the opposite directions of rotation and thus torque to cancel each other out. If you do want to turn, and here comes the point, you apply more torque to one rotor and less to the other by creating a difference in collective pitch between the rotors. The rotors are mechanically linked in the main gearbox, so they can only rotate at equal (but opposite) RPM. Has this made any sense? You can look it up in the manual at 13-10 of the printed edition (not included in the pdf manual, unfortunately)

:huh:Ok, now you got me really confused: which one is it? Seriously, aren't they both the same? Amazon lists the same reviews for both titles...

Customs might be a problem, had it been sent from outside the EU, but from the UK no customs clearance is required, so... But anyway, I think TFC should at least give customers the option to use a registered delivery and warn about the risks of using non-registered mail. I envy the guys who already have that manual, really wanna dig into it as well. (not to mention the sim itself)
-
Shouldn't that be up to the pilot to decide? Your target might be just a couple of infantry or a harmless truck, i.e. something not so extremely explosive. The pilot is still the best at assessing a combat situation, and I can't imagine the engineers at Kamov deciding to "protect" the pilot from shrapnel hits by limiting the valid range of the cannon. They would be putting pilots in danger by doing that. Imagine you'd have to kill something up close, because its getting ready to launch, I'd be really pissed off (not to mention dead :P) if the helo tells me I can't fire, because I might get some blast fragments my way...;)

Yep, the hornet is the most interesting given the variety of missions you can fly with it. And modern carrier operations would be awesome!

I have ordered mine together with the DVD on 17 June from the DCS website which ships from the UK as well. They showed it as "sent" on the following day, but has still not arrived!!:( Expected delivery time to the Netherlands is 7 days max. So I've asked them about it, and they've told me that they use non-registered mail, meaning no one knows where the shipment is, and to wait for a month before they'll do anything... So a warning: don't order from the DCS site and may be from TFC either (it seems the same source) as you run the risk of loosing the package and a lot of time.

Thanks for the update Matt. Call me old fashioned, but I still prefer to have the physical DVD at home instead of just an activated copy on the hard disk. Just a short question: Will the DVD be available through your e-shop as well? And when can we pre-order? Regards;)

In the commands and messages list on page 366 [8-28]: It should be wingman 2, 3 or 4 instead of wingmen. In the rightmost column, the response belonging to reconnaissance is not listed next to the reconnaissance command. And I would think that "Since wingmen will take the place in formation he gives a report: ‚[X] in formation right (left). " belongs in the box to the right of rejoin. In fact Reconnaissance, rejoin, hold position and all following commands should all be shifted up with respect to the third and fourth column. I really like the extra tower and maintenance commands, that should make for a very realistic experience.

Well, just replace "it" with "you" and you're all set! ;)

Great artwork indeed . You think of really sticking the cursor to the cockpit. Even with a simplified mesh, that is still much more complicated than what I tried to explain in post 17 (sorry, I don't have time now to visualise the explanation as well as you did): The cursor is a vector (= arrow) pointing from the viewport (pilot head) out into the cockpit. As you rotate your head, this vector rotates with it. This makes it harder to keep pointing at something in the pit. Solution: stop the vector from rotating with your head. It can still be moved in azimuth and elevation by the mouse, but those angles are relative to the cockpit now, not to the screen/viewport/pilot. Effect: as you rotate your head the cursor keeps pointing in the same direction. Only moving your head up/down, left/right or forward/backward (translations) causes some cursor movement in the cockpit, but that will IMO be much less of a problem than the rotations. Advantage: It uses virtually no extra cpu time, the only thing you need is a coordinate frame rotation (multiply by a direct cosine matrix). And it should be very easy to implement into an almost finished product, giving us more chance of actually having it :smilewink: (pleassssseeee ED :)).

Ok, excuse me Skipper, now I get what you meant. Yes, that could work. It links the keyboard not to individual functions, but rather geometrically to the cockpit. That might be easier to remember than all the key combinations without any logical reference to the actual function. And it could work side-by-side with a mouse clickable cockpit as well.
