  1. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear something along those lines in the next few weeks.
  2. Yup you are correct. All those (besides the searchlight and stabilator) pertain to emergency stuff. With the stabilator yeah, its auto most of the time. Only in certain circumstances would you use it, for instance in rolling take off's. But again, in DCS there are some things you can more or less force aircraft through and it works just fine.
  3. Good catch, edited
  4. I can help you all out. I'm sure you'll get a decent guide from casmo at some point. Cyclic button Functions (top left)Force trim/hold mode switch: this is your trim button. It also has altitude and attitude hold (top middle)Weapon Action Switch(WAS): lets you select your freedom setting. i.e.- gun, missiles, rockets (top right)Symbology select switch: Cruise, Transition, Hover and bob up modes. (top center): counter measures button (left): Mic switch: both ICS and COMM (trigger): freedom button (bottom pinky button): no no switch. Pretty much deactivates your FMC Collective, mission grip (top) FCR scan size: Think of this as narrowing or widening your scan in normal A/A radars. Same concept (top left) FCR mode switch: switch between ground, air, terrain modes (center) cursor controller: its your fancy thing to control the cursor on the MFDs. Has a z-axis for selecting what you have highlighted with your cursor. (right) sight select: Select your primary sight. HMD or FCR for pilot (center center) cursor select button: quickly moves cursor to next MFD (thumb button) FCR scan: activates scan with FCR (other thumb button?) cued search: does a quick scan towards threatiest of threats. Its your "I have an SA-19 locking me from over there somewhere. Find it" button (pinky button) missile advance: select next missile Collective flight grip (top) boresight/polarity: White hot/black hot (left barber pole): jettison stores (center Left) TADS/PNVS select: for night flying. Select which you will use (center right) manual stabilator switch: Manually control the big wing thing on the tailboom (right, both) both control the search light in some fashion (trigger) BUCS trigger: your backup control system trigger. Its for really bad days. Read about it if you're curious (thumb button) chop button: electronically cuts engines. (pinky button) tail wheel lock/unlock: as the name implies there are quite a few controls that, in a DCS standpoint, you don't necessarily need. So as long as you have a decent hotas it shouldn't be all that bad.
  5. I've had to more then just read them, lol. It is certainly cool stuff to learn! It will definitely provide a unique experience in DCS! I'm with you there. However take the F-18 for example, typically speaking you are controlling two sensors (Radar, FLIR) on your average mission. In the apache that is the most you'd likely control from the CPG station. PLT doesn't control the TADS for target engagements. Controlling the screens you actually have a cursor you can move around if you need to remain hands on controls, and you are able to rapidly change which MFD you have your cursor on. There is a lot of IHADSS symbology that is on all the different modes, so once you get the general layout its not so bad (not including the TADS as a sight). I get your point though; lots of stuff. I'm stoked to see it coming to DCS!
  6. I can assure you its not that bad, in comparison to other aircraft we have available
  7. The collective grip was designed the way it was because it has a flight grip(bottom) and mission grip (top). The mission grip is the pilots version of the TEDAC handles, but missing things like slew control for the TADS and some stuff with the laser.
  8. Janes Longbow 2 was one of my favorite games as a kid! Awesome to see it finally coming to DCS!
  9. Oh I like this, sort of like BMS if you are familiar? That being said would you prefer a kneeboard item or a pdf? This is something I might try to do......
  10. 100% this
  11. That would be pretty cool. If ED doesn't do it I'm sure someone will (eventually)
  12. Here we go again..... But to answer the question, no I don't think there should be an simpler AAR. Doesn't the SU-33 already have something like that anyways?

    RWR

Did the harrier RWR get broken with this last update??? I don't seem to be getting anything from it. Nothing is showing up but the threat rings.
  14. Yeah, not sure what you were looking at there:smilewink:. My first thought was that he was looking at the mountain on the right side of the screen shot. However, if you look at the TGP he is looking straight forward. I prefer the mk1 eyeball with slow zoom in/out once I start getting closer to a target area.
  15. I 2nd the TF-51. Free, easy to fly, and just enough "system management" to get by. Once you get good with that, find something a bit faster like the F-86. It would be an easy transition since a lot of the gauges and such are pretty much the same thing. Bottom line, move up in era's! Older birds rely more on actual piloting and not "auto pilot this, systems that make X easier, that" which would benefit you I believe.
  16. This video I found to be very helpful in understanding those particular systems. Hope this helps!
  17. Not weird at all! The other day I flew a 300km-ish flight just because. Its a great way to learn the systems for nav like everyone is saying.
  18. Instead of using the presets , maybe switch it down to manual on the center console and put the freq in there? Im not near my computer right now but I am curious if this works. Keep us posted.
  19. If you are playing off of steam, try imputing the key you get with it. It may not be activated. I know it seems like a dumb response but it happens sometimes.
  20. I use "Action!". It costs $30 but it does the trick for full screen.
  21. This attached file can come in handy for you. 1 RWR Threats.pdf
  22. Look through your controls and you should find a move view key command, usually the numbpad if Im not mistaken. I dont ever really deal with that since I have trackir....hope this helped.
