  1. It already is... You have to manually delete a few folders full of compiled shaders though. I'm not at my gaming rig so I can't check right now but just throw it in your OVGME mods folder. This mod gets installed in your DCS install directory instead of your saved games profile folder though.
  2. Great non-answer :). Coming from a Vive here and pre-purchased... so I'm no stranger to fighting for the experience on both the headset and DCS fronts. I even did it with a 3570K and a 970 so... But I'm literally asking for a friend. I'm not wanting to recommend something that has hardware issues. If it's "tuning" that's one thing. if it's "bad hardware design leading to connectivity issues that need to be engineered around" then I'd like to know that before I make my recommendation. He won't mind "tuning". EVERYONE will mind a hardware issue that requires a return to the manufacturer. Especially if V2 is here or close and solves that problem before it happens. Also... Get off your high horse. You weren't in the first group I recall getting all the "old" details of VR in DCS worked out so my horse is higher anyway :). No need for a d*** swinging contest :). We're all on the same team here ;).
  3. Are the revised editions what is needed to guarantee you don't get the disconnect/flicker issue of the earlier ones?
  4. Doing it actually helps with your timing of the "quick start" from a feedback perspective... and it's just a few clicks while you're waiting for other things anyway. When it completes you get a specific beep sequence that lets you know that you need to reset the FCS, set T/O trim and set flaps to half. I think "Roll Left... Roll Left..." is right about there also, and that's when you roll the left engine. I mean you can do that at any time mostly... but if you're quick and all that... The "Roll Left" call comes right when that's what you should be doing.
  5. I hear you there... And I feel like we'll likely know more when they do...
  6. ^^^ I agree. I too seem to have a bit of improvement... but I upgraded my card to to a 970 to a 2080 as well about that time, and didn't have any benchmark numbers or a good sense of my performance right about the time that patch dropped. I didn't move the vid card at the same time... but after the performance patch was "released" and before I swapped my card I did indeed feel like something had been optimized a bit. That said... Yeah it's a bit unrealistic to think that a full 50% improvement was coming anyway... no matter what anyone from ED said. No offense to them... I'm sure it seemed that way at the time... but I think there actually IS a bit of responsibility on the user base to take fairly bold claims with a bit of salt at first and have a "wait and see" approach. Anyone trying to rake someone at ED over the coals based on this issue has "personal problems" :). We've generally seen a bit of improvement and we know ED are working on more. If they do indeed make a "breakthrough" then I'm all for that :).
  7. Are you saying you would like to play AS the AAA/SAM site? If so you'll need combined arms but it's a bit "not quite done" it seems to me. It's a good effort to start I think, and I haven't played with it in a while... but it's a bit rough around the edges. If you're just looking for the regular combat flight sim experience... Just DCS with whatever module you like. F/A-18 is excellent... as is the Harrier and my personal favorite the KA-50 Blackshark.
  8. You're looking for a "snap view" I think. Those are customizable.
  9. I agree. Instant zoom is better. There's a zoom mod out now in the download section that has three levels of zoom, it snap zooms, and I find it much better.
  10. So... the reason I don't use ALT hold channel is because if you're flying anywhere near the limit of the rotor blades, and that AP channel decides it wants more blade pitch to maintain elevation it will kill you. I used to get quite frustrated with the rotor blades before I learned that if I just turn off ALT hold they will stop "randomly touching tips". Now it only does it when I accidentally tell it to :). So... especially when flying from one RP to another... Don't use the ALT hold :). If you're close to the AO and slow down a bit and are assessing the situation then it's OK to use... Or if you insist on a cap of 250 speed instead of say 300 or so... then it's OK to use. With it off however... you can get from point "A" to point "B" much quicker.
  11. Yeah I'm pretty sure they changed the licensing scheme from the old "limited number of activation's". I'm pretty sure now you just log in to DCS and whatever your login has access to you get. <-- period That said... I do recommend that you just purchase through the DCS shop as opposed to Steam. ED gets more of your money, It's more mobile on your PC (moving from one HDD to another without having Steam move it for you), updates and new modules tend to come out a short time sooner, You can do the Open Beta version (maybe you can on steam too...). In any case... the big thing is to get more of your money to ED and not Steam. Steam has plenty :).
  12. I seem to recall that the real shark uses a data cartridge where a large amount of information is loaded into the Abris system before a mission... Some of that data is flight plans, known threat/target info... Will we be able to create data files to load into the shark after the shark update? PLEASE :)
  13. "Flying with FD on and at high speed during combat is a lot more fun than hovering somewhere and sniping stuff." Yup. As soon as I've taken care of the real AA threats I move in and Rambo everything I see :). SUPER fun :). Running Vikhr shots give me just as many goose bumps as sweet Aim9X shots :). Expecially in VR with the HMS and the cannon :). LOVELY!
  14. Was there ever an integrity check fix for Kegetys performance mod?
  15. Mostly yeah... The only trouble is with the view. You can move the view around which breaks the "benchmark" but as long as everyone uses the same view I think that works. I'm pretty sure that the view moves with wherever the user looks with their TiR or VR when creating the benchmark .trk file too... To be honest I'm not sure why there's not an accepted "standard" .trk file we use as a bench mark... It'd have to use the TF-51 or 25T and the Caucasus map is all...
  16. I know... but mine worked and I didn't disable driver signing... Maybe I'm confused and used a different virtual joystick driver. I'll have to check when I get home. Also... If there's a new community backed VJoy driver maybe if I'm not using VJoy I'll move back to it... Does it support >8 axes?
  17. Nah you're right Ness... I mean it's not "exactly" the same as it doesn't set the trimmed attitude when you release the FD... but for all intents and purposes... it's pretty much the same.
  18. Can you explain exactly what this does? Be as technical as you'd like :).
  19. Well I mean... My problems literally consist of flying for like 4 seconds while I click one or two things but I'll take a look :).
  20. The only problem I have in VR from a control perspective is sometimes when taking off, IF I don't map the gear and/or flap I sometimes have to fly with my left hand (stick is on the right like in an F-16) and operate my mouse with the right to click the gear and/or flaps control in the cockpit... But... I pretty much always just use the F and G keys on the keyboard for those... and ONLY those. that's like all I use on the keyboard. I even have my F10 and F1 view and even my kneeboard buttons on my hotas. I mean... I run a full F-18 with a hotas, including full startup and everything... with ONLY the hotas, mouse and the "F" and "G" keys... I guess I use the "F1-12" when I need the comms SOMETIMES but even then I have \ mapped and now you can click the selection you want in the comms menu with the mouse... I'm just not seeing how VR controllers have any advantage what so ever. But... I have an open mind so change it if you can dude :)... I don't mind :).
  21. Also... you're point doesn't even make sense... wait a minute... You're saying that you want your VR controllers to be able to grab the actual stick and throttle in game... but... they have hardly any buttons on them... so... this will increase the number of button locations you'll need to remember on the keyboard. It sounds to me like using the VR controllers would actually contribute to your problem IMO. Using the HOTAS you'll have like 5x as many buttons right there under your finger tips, then you'll have a mouse that can click any button in the cockpit (that you can see... as opposed to using a keyboard which you CANT see) and that mouse is not really any different from an immersion perspective than using some floating device to grab a non-floating device in VR space to float it around... Also... maybe try to contact all of these people that would rather use the VR controllers and get them to come in here to this thread to make their interests known... then maybe you would get some traction. As far as I can see there's mostly just you. Also... I'm willing to accept that maybe you're actually right and using the VR controllers IS actually better for you... But why? All the folks in this thread have pointed out is just that having a clickable cockpit with a mouse and having all the buttons on a hotas seems to be the hot setup for them. Sure a few people have told you that you're "wrong" but whatever... For the most part they're just saying what works best for them and trying to convince you that it might be best for you... But why do you feel that VR controllers are best for you? I mean without resorting to saying that it's because you can't see the keyboard... because with a hotas you can map all the keys you need, and then mouse click the rest... so there's no reason to remember keyboard keys at all. You just need to remember where the control is in the cockpit... which you CAN see...
  22. "link to that the amount of commands there are in DCS that you have to remember and you have problems." No... YOU have problems. I seem to manage it just fine. This is like people who say they need a gear indicator in a race car... No you don't. You have ears to listen to the engine. You know when you need to change gears. If you're thinking about which buttons you need to press and then needing to look at them then just practice more. It will come to you ;). you might also re-map a couple buttons that you use less frequently to whatever buttons you're using all the time on the KYB... Just a thought :). Do the same with your hotas and keyboard and mouse. BTW... It can click anything in the cockpit unless you're using an FC3 jet... but in those you can map everything to the hotas... because they're simple and only need like 15 buttons.
  23. Odd... Mine never broke.. Maybe I'm using a different virtual stick driver though... But I seem to recall it's vjoy...
  24. That sounds about right... Although there are various ways that you can get a crash and end up in that hangar without a menu. That said... I've only had that happen after having been there WITH a menu, going into a mission or something and then getting kicked back to the hangar without the menu. So... Probably Num-5 on the keyboard to re-center the view. The menu is likely sitting just behind your head :).
  25. "I believe it's safe to assume an ambiguous contact is an enemy." And that's how it happens folks :). No offense man :)... Just made me laugh :).
