  1. "The overwhelming majority have seen no improvement." Not that I disagree, But... your sample size is super small to make quite that claim.
  2. "it will not cure your altitude problems as you roll and drop violently to avoid ground fire, but it will move the collective in the right direction when such a dynamic violent encounter is experienced...." Hmmm... Kinda... I hear you, but... If I drop violently... I did it on purpose. The last thing I want is the Alt hold fighting me. I always fly with ALT off BTW, but mostly because it'll clip your wings at the most inopportune of times.
  3. ^^^^^^
  4. Well... there's a LOT to load... If you're certain that load time is your preference I think turning down the pre-load radius will help... but there are benefits and drawback either way you go.
  5. One more for the "Don't use Steam for DCS" crowd. Don't get me wrong... I have a huge steam game collection. I love the platform. But for DCS just stick with the regular webshop stuff, and I certainly recommend using the "Open Beta" version.
  6. @whoever was complaining about VR here... Can't be arsed to check who it was... It has more to do with calculating the location of objects in 3D space for a VR setup vs. a single view setup. The number if pixels it all gets broken down into is relevant but not as much as placing objects. Other games don't run the HUGE environments that we do, which are ALSO loaded down with ENTIRE TOWNS, railways, trees, light poles, power lines, Civ traffic... Seriously... Try to think about what you say before you say it OK :)... I'm not trying to say that the VR implementation in DCS is perfect... I'm sure it could be improved (Look at Kegety's mod for example)... but it's good enough that for a long time I ran a Vive on a 970 and a 4.2Ghz i5-3500K... If you prefer 4K... Then go run it. I have a 4K monitor and a Vive. The Vive beats it hands down. It's not a VR problem entirely. There are LOTS of people who prefer it in DCS. It's a you problem. YOU aren't willing to get over the issues you see with DCS in VR. I am. It's all good man :).
  7. "Try deleting your metashader and FXO folders under your saved games folder>DCS." Yeah I think that's good advice... There's also the meta shaders folder in each terrain folder... I don't recall where they are off the top of my head though and I'm at work so I can't check.
  8. Do you mean the coolant?
  9. Are there still issues with connectivity with the reverb?
  10. "Yeah, but to me, that's just that old "gamma trick" people use in FPS games" What is? Using NVG? Targeting enemies in towns under street lights? Launching flare rockets? I'm not sure which assumptions you've made while you still refuse to take my advice and learn how to do what I'm asking you to do but... Alright man... you do you :). I'd prefer that you learn the REAL strengths and weaknesses of the chopper so that if we ever end up on the same team I can hope you're capable, but... You refuse. Instead you just keep saying you refuse to buy until they put FLIR on the shark. OK.
  11. Then don't try to figure it out. But... the fact that you refuse speaks volumes about why you want crap like FLIR. Laser energy bounces off targets day or night BTW. Seems to me that you aren't willing to learn how to deploy the Shark so you perceive a list of "unacceptable weaknesses" and have decided that they all need to be addressed so you can fly the Shark at night. All I can tell you is that I was playing with a group of friends for a while and we would make our own missions. At one point someone made a few night missions and I was like "Damn... can't fly the Shark then..." but the person insisted... so I did. Now I've learned more. One thing specifically... The Shark is damn near as capable at night as it is in the day. Also... The trick I was trying to teach you above also works in the day so I'm not sure what you're on about regarding the gamma curve of the universe...
  12. FPS shooters don't tend to use 100% of a CPU core though... Try using Process Lasso or CPU affinity. Find the process that's using CPU cycles when you move the mouse using task manager (sort by CPU use) and lock it to a different core. Maybe try locking others too... maybe the VR Headset trackers?
  13. " So, I will have to try study what is exactly happening "in game" compared to what happens "in reality"." "Really want them to bring the systems on this chopper much closer to reality." What? So... Who filled you in on the "reality" you're after? Do you fly these things IRL? Holy cow dude... I've been arguing with a Shark pilot? My apologies sir... Seriously though :)... "Yeah, I hear that, but also I have been told" I just told you that the answer to that puzzle I provided you above will help you... and you just side stepped the "reality" of it, then continued your quest for "un-reality". OK Man :)...
  14. I think for the purposes of this discussion in this context it doesn't matter if it was a "production" run. Obviously it's great to know and understand the history of the Shark. It quickly became one of my favorite combat aircraft of all time and I love the history. But... As relating to whether the KA-50ED will be a faithful re-creation of what the KA-50 would have become I feel like the "prototype" discussion is similar to trying to imply that the F/A-18A is a "prototype" of the F/A-18C... Not only is it not... but it also doesn't really matter. If the U.S. had suffered the same financial issues as RU then maybe we'd be having this discussion about the 18C vs. the 18A? Maybe... Either way though... We know that given enough money, military weapons tend to get better and better. I personally believe that the KA-50 was on track to become something very much like the KA-50ED, then the KA-52. "Prototype" or not.
  15. I've done quite a few night missions in the Shark... I'm more careful. I'm not useless. WTF? Has ANYONE else tried holding down the target lock button until vikhr impact? You don't need a lock. Yes, you need to cool the laser after a long shot done in this way... but it works. Also... If you put your mind to it... this also offers a significant advantage to those who get good at it ;)...
  16. There are three settings for the trim in the options... One is used for a springless stick, one for FFB and one for a regular stick. Be sure you've chosen the right one :). The "Push 1/4 Forwards and trim" method is alright for takeoff. It indeed will get you pretty close... but One of the best shark pilots in the game taught me the "Smooth" method. You just increase power and forward stick, while holding trim, until the shark starts rolling forwards just a tad, then let go of the trim and stick and yank the power on and go :). It'll take a few tries but once you get it you'll take off with a slight forwards travel every time. One more thing... Learn to manually hover quickly, and don't use the auto hover in combat. Sorta... You'll get shot by tanks if you sit in one spot in a real immobile "hover". It's mostly ok if you hover behind cover... but you can do a lot more damage a lot faster if you don't hide, but keep moving. You don't need to be moving fast... just moving. so... Learn to "hover strafe". I've mostly even stopped using "Turn to Target" now, though sometimes while strafing I'll find a target and turn on "Turn to target" to get the chopper pointed in the right general direction and then turn it off again. The trim is your friend here. What the trim really does in the Shark is it asks it to maintain current travel characteristics... So... If you're holding a 50 ruble strafe with a bit of forwards speed reducing altitude by say 40FPM it will maintain that until crash or no fuel :). This works for circle strafe, funnel... everything. I also always turn off altitude hold. It can and will kill you. This means that Auto Pilot will no longer have any control over the collective... but that's "generally" a good thing :). Be careful with the right rudder and right stick when flying fast. You can get to say 450 or more... but do it with low blade pitch in a dive :).
  17. Yeah you'll need it to be a button you can hold during combat. You will be holding this button quite a bit. Not clicking... but holding (<-- There will be a debate here in a few posts... :) ). So the process is that as you're applying power to lift, you'll hold the trim button, add power, the nose will start to lift, move the stick forwards (still holding trim). Keep doing this... add power, keep nose down with cyclic, WHILE HOLDING TRIM. At some point the Shark will begin rolling forwards. At that point... Release the trim button, center the stick, yank the collective and crank up "Flight of the Valkyries"... :) Also... Which trim MODE do you have selected in the special options section of DCS? Are you using a FFB stick?
  18. "Most of the time I die after getting cocky and deciding to gun strafe Bradleys." Lol :)... Me too :). Way too fun in VR to not try darn near every time :). I'm like "Hmmm... I think all the AA is down... Hope so... HOLD MY BEER!!!"
  19. Did you know that you can launch a second Vikhr when the first is maybe 1/4 to the target, then another when the first is 1/2 way, then another at about 3/4, then kill possible up to 4 targets in "one shot"? I suggest that you look into how. The answer will tell you mostly why, in DCS, the KA-50 works just fine at night and w/o a "lock".
  20. "This chopper just can't work at night without FLIR or some type of LLTV (Starlight) where it can get Lock." No hate dude... but this just isn't true. As you seem to have decided that I just hate you somehow though... I'll leave you in the capable hands of Grodlund. I will say though that the KA is not an anti-fighter weapon. It's passable if you happen to surprise a fast mover, and it can wreck choppers just fine... but it's going to be much more difficult at night to spot and attack anything in the air. It just wasn't made for that usage scenario. It can be done... but it's not the role the KA-50 fills.
  21. LOL :). I don't hate dude. Anything. I just disagree with you. I'm ok with that :). Hate is not the same thing as not agreeing with you man :).
  22. I'm pretty sure you're confusing me with someone else :). I'll buy the new Heli on day 0. Maybe before if I can find out how. I mean aside from me saying you act like a spoiled child. That's my opinion :). Just like yours is that we should have an OP toy for you to go dominate the battlefield and "play" with. If people like me telling others that they should respect the roots of DCS is what keeps people from coming here then I don't know what to say to you... Also... I've never been chosen for anything here... Not even sure what you're on about.
  23. "I just want to be able to target at night with FLIR." LOL. No. That's NOT all you want. You say that, then quote - "The following is a must in the new Ka-50: 1- RWR. 2- FLIR. 3- A-A Missiles. 4- IR jammer. 5- 6 Wings Hard Points. Without ALL of those not sure why to buy!!!" And then reply "EXACTLY. Otherwise, what has really changed?" You aren't fooling anyone. You're like a spoiled kid. You want an OP KA50 with laser-sharks on it's head. THANK YOU CHIZH FOR STAYING TRUE TO DCS AND NOT CAVING TO THE WHIMPERING CHILDREN. I know... some would debate that and that's OK :)... I think we can at least agree that if funding hadn't been the primary limiting factor... The KA-50 would have eventually been something super similar to the KA-50ED.
  24. Nah... DCS isn't a twitch game. Leave Vsync on. You might enable "fast VSync" in the NVidia CPL but I think last time I tried that it made DCS crash but that was quite some time ago now. It probably works fine. I'd rather see it capped at 60 (or whatever your refresh rate is) at 2xMSAA than produce a good deal of wasted frames that you can't see anyway. If you can get over 60FPS at 4K and 2xMSAA anyway :)...
  25. You don't need 4xMSAA at 4K res... Turn it off. Or stick with 2x. Also turn shadows down a notch and heat blur up. I use VR so I'm not quite as familiar with Nvidia settings as the monitor guys (in VR we have different settings we run there) but I'd say even go with no MSAA and figure out what AA to run in the NVidia settings, and probably with MFAA enabled. But get a second opinion on that.
