  1. Yeah maybe unnecessary for the 1c vert if you come in slower, sure - It helps elsewhere though. If you warm up you can have higher onset rate, higher peak G, and sustain it much longer. You won't get the tunnel effects at like 7g or whatever, either.
  2. Copy that! :megalol:
  3. We have -220s in the sim. Officially there aren't any -229 equipped US F-15Cs unless they're hiding something (which I doubt). Nobody IRL has stock, from the factory -220s, though, as far as I know. There's an account on F-16.net of somebody trying to tune a -132 *below* 34,000lbf on a test stand in AB. Now just think about the other F100s and F110s for a second. ;)
  4. TFW you out ninja Ghost with testing things.
  5. Rage if you go to 12-14G from there you will GLOC. As much G as possible probably means without blacking out wouldn't you think? Heck, even pulling 8 or 9 if you aren't warmed up will GLOC you straight uphill. It is highly advisable to fly the aircraft and scenario in question before complaining about them. Just tested this with an Eagle (state 0020/8.5) at 550kts and 1000ft AMSL- If you are warmed up and you pull max aft stick you'll get to 10.5g and about 125 degrees of turn and then GLOC. Quick edit: Tested again, warmed up, state 0020 and 10.0 @ 550-560KCAS/1000ft AMSL - Max stick pull, lift vector straight up, got 10g again. Edit II: Gonna test with lower fuel, like 4 or 6k - I know guys like Stuge like to min-fuel all their fights, after all. :) Edit III: 4k gives you 11.1g and a GLOC after 135 degrees.
  6. F-15A tried a high G (IIRC, 9, don't hold me to that) maneuver with 3 fueled bags and broke apart a long time ago. Edit: This was documented in the thread from last year. AFAIK it was something SinusoidDelta dug out of the internet (that guy and his documents.....). :) The C is stronger, but bad things should happen if you act like a dumb-you-know-what with the stick. Loaded 14g barrel rolls at 500ft and 620kts with 3 bags should kill you IMO. You know what would be hilarious? If we could chop our wings off with overstress and fly around with body lift. I've done that before from gun/missile hits before the hydraulics DM update! :D
  7. Would advise doing a G warm-up before doing the 1c vertical. That thing is demanding on the pilot, very good chance of GLOC if you overpull in the slightest. The quickest way to warm up is to snake at 6g while keeping the hostile in the radar gimbals (assuming a 15+ mile commit range) - Do maybe two or four turns and that'll be good enough I think.
  8. It goes pitbull at 8nmi and it's low on energy for anything over ~12nmi - That's plenty of warning unless you're being lazy with the abort maneuver (which, again IIRC, the AI is).
  9. Interesting! Thanks for the info. Also: beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! You know, what 9g+ sounds like in our Eagle. :D
  10. You can't set the Eagle's altimeter unfortunately. That causes a lot of these problems...
  11. Yup, I believe that was in the thread where a lot of hostility started about this problem. I do believe that people could correct their flying style before this is fixed, but there are always people who will abuse bugs for competitive advantages (see the S key for example). Also, do a barrel roll! :D
  12. He doesn't flight low. From what I remember flying with Sinus (and a few others), he goes high and fast. Like 45k and mach 1.8. Up there you can shoot from 10-20nmi depending on the threat's skill level. The AI is why you're seeing it differently. Their abort/out maneuver sucks and they execute it way late, as I recall.
  13. Edit: This is about that video posted just above. Lmao That comment I made earlier about which is worse, the flying or the survival of it...Yeah that applies! I feel like a lot of overstress incidents could be avoided by better flying - There should be consequences for flying like that. (edit II: don't mean to jab the video pilot's flying, it's a very good demonstration, IMO, of what some people do with the Eagle) Gonna be fun watching 3 bag asymmetric G loading in a year or so! :megalol: Hopefully Sith gets this looked at and revised.
  14. Gotta find that F-15 overload chart...Basically, around 20k and transsonic the G limit is 7.33 (IIRC on a clean jet?), at some point it's 8.5 and then back to 9.0 at other points in the envelope. The OWS, to my knowledge, should account for that and provide appropriate warning (HUD indication/beepers). Maybe GG or SinusoidDelta have that chart? It was posted on here last year...Edit: and yeah i did a quick search for it. couldn't find it unfortunately.

    Missiles range

200-300kts up high is like mach .75 to mach 1.15 I think? 250 is .95ish at 40,000ft IIRC. Being over .95 helps, being over mach 1.25 is even better. At transsonic speeds (~M0.85-M.1.25) there's a LOT of drag on the aircraft. Getting over the "Mach hump" is great for lobbing missiles really far. Fair. I find there are less defensive options that way, but it's not like I fly airquake PVP in the 2000 all that often, either.
  16. I really don't understand why we don't have a "Flanker Threat Simulator" or something. Give us something with the rough capabilities of say, a J-11B, or Su-27SM3, or whatever, give it all the weapons (AA-10/11/12, PL-8/9/12/15), a basic representation of the current sensor capabilities, etc. Doesn't have to be perfect, doesn't have to be anywhere near realistic - It's just gotta work. I'd say SSM/PFM would be fine, too. Same idea applies to other aircraft. We have this mindset where "anything less than what I think is 100% realistic sucks" and then "there's not enough data for anything to be perfect so let me keep my expectations the same" and so on...Not a good way to be IMO. /$0.02
  17. I think part of it is that (in past threads), the people calling for DM updates came off like they wanted a Flanker DM in the Eagle. I think that's where a lot of the friction started, tbh. If/when the Eagle is updated it'd be great if the OWS got an update too. Dynamic max G indication + audio warning. That would be amazing. Maybe even model the hydraulic systems a bit more so ridiculous G isn't as easy...And that other thing Eagle guys whine about with hydraulics, fix that too. But for overload stuff, the OWS and the stress model are the biggest two things here. That was a great read! Thank you! I kinda prefer to try and stay within more realistic limits, but hey; whatever works, works. :smilewink:
  18. Okay, 02:52:23 - Winchester blends (at 9+ G, somehow) and overstresses to hell. I'm not sure what's worse...His flying or that he survived that. :megalol:

    Missiles range

For the OP: First off, you aren't getting anywhere in PVP MP in the Mirage without a wingman. You can't go one man army like some can in the Eagle, it just doesn't work. After that, you just gotta get familiar with missiles and their parameters in various scenarios. Then comes tactics...Try a simple bracket with a wingman in 2v1. If you do it right the bandit has to pick one of you to shoot at or he has to maneuver a lot to shoot both of you. And as for being up high...There's a time to be seen and a time to not be seen. If they see you on radar, who cares that you're in contrails? Using bracketing from higher altitudes and high Mach is effective, too...
  20. >This isn't 4chan >Poster types like this >But without greentext (seriousness below) There is a very good chance that the Eagle cannot pull 14g IRL due to the hydraulics system simply being unable to overcome the pressure on the elevators at higher airspeeds. Fix the hydraulic system and you might not need an airframe disintegration model, that's the idea there. The other thing here is that too many people play a game and not a simulator - I see people having yaw induced roll offs and departures at transsonic speeds too often, for example. That's where the "18g capable" meme comes from; bad flying. You deserve to break your jet and die at that point, sure, but why don't you do the devs a favor and not fly in such a stupid way to begin with? All of that said, vEagle drivers want a damage model update too. I think many would love a proper hydro model in all respects and an OWS allowable G indication that wasn't static 9.0. The last one would deter a lot of overstress incidents IMO.
  21. Because the R-27ER suffers from ED.
  22. Yeah I think long term the F-35A will be just fine as an Eagle replacement. It has legs, it has a decent payload (you put the externals on and it's amazing) that is only going to get better with mid Block 4 and the rise of smaller missiles, it has loads of sensor capabilities, etc. I think a few people lost sight of the fact that there's no budget for anything right now other than sustaining the ANG Eagles or *maybe* doing the F-16 thing...That one will cost loads of money to refit F-16s for the mission and retrain everybody and so on.
  23. Step back and look at why your idea is not great - You want to replace a bought and paid for fighter that is costing too much to sustain with a more modern version of said fighter that is surely going to cost even more in the timeframe we're looking at. Procurement, sustainment, you just don't have money available. The training and technical points are basically irrelevant (and somewhat inaccurate IMO) when you realize that there's no budget for the Strike proposal.
  24. Well I was thinking more like the F-18 guys respect the F-15C as a platform and they respect what the pilots can do. I've heard that from a few guys now, former and current. Jealousy is a funny one, though! And yeah, the F-15A, in US service at least, never used the A/G stuff...Wasn't sure if he was aware if they had the capability or not. :)
  25. Oh that's where he got 79 from... It's always the simple things in life, eh?
