  1. Your system is well enough for black shark. It's a CPU hungry game, and not so much GPU dependant. So 5770 or GTX460, it will not make a difference. The ATi will offer you multi-display configuration, while the nVidia has nice 3D Stereo vision options...
  2. I'd go with the ATi HD5850 too. It's a great performer for its money and will give you a noticeable improvement over the 9800GT. However you must have a powerful CPU to allow the card to shine. And this goes for all new performance cards, not only this one...
  3. You are talking about numbers, when neither of us really has any clue about the capabilities of those radars and their detection ranges. Also as we all know missile ranges also vary with attitude, aspect and speed. If you detect the enemy much earlier, you will have the advantage to set-up the fight to fit your strategy and project your advantages over the enemy.
  4. AFAIK the R-77M is not yet in serial production and not in service. My bet is that it won't enter service for another 5-10 years, so comparing it to the already well established and in contineous development AMRAAM is not right. Even the original R-77 is in very low numbers... So I think the major advantages the Flanker holds over the SuperBug are not the radar or the missiles, but rather its speed and range. The Flanker can fly faster and longer, and thus govern the fight. In a head to head all-out scenario, I believe the Super Hornet would maintain the advantage due to its modern radar and electronics in addition to its lower RCS and good BVR weapons. BTW for short range kills, the flanker should better use R-73, and not the R-27 :)
  5. No, there isn't. If you know the distance to the bandit firing at you, and use the clock/stopwatch, you can have a basic idea of where the missile is, but to do this you need to gain some experience. Turn your labels on, and do some practice flights. Notice when the missile is fired and take measure of the time it needs to get to you. Notice the time will be different if you fly high or low, fast or slow, head on or off-course. Slowly you'll start getting the idea of what's going on and when to disengage and extend.
  6. Yup, I've scored a number of nice long range 50-60 km ER kills on jamming bandits. The jammer denies/delays you the launch warning you would otherwise get when you are been fired upon...
  7. AFAIK BS and FC2.0 share a very common structure. So the hardest part will be in making A-10C work with BS. From then on, making it compatible with FC2 I believe should be an easier task. And I doubt that they will leave the A2A guys fly on their own in FC2.0 until DCS:Fighter comes out. These are my main thoughts though...
  8. Sad to hear that. The model was nice, although I find the SMT a bit ugly with that 'hump' on its back :)
  9. You got it running fine right? That's what counts. I'm also a happy user of FreeTrack, I got mine built by a friend, the camera has IR-diodes so I use only passive reflectors on my hat, and with steady 30FPS interpolated to 120, it's smooth as silk. The only pain is setting up FT properly, but once you're done it works great...
  10. Good news for the Team combat league, sadly I won't be around the next month or two, but hopefully from september/october, I'll be able to join the fights :)
  11. Shackman, it may be very hard at first to try and fly with externals and padlock disabled if you're used to them. But as others said, if you really wanna get better and fly in a more realistic manner, do read the book, and maybe take Udat's suggestion and give a try at BVR/CAC against a willing and helpful fellow pilot. He's a good pilot, and will guide you in the right direction. Whenever you get FC2, I'll also be glad to fly with you and help with any problems and/or questions you may have. You see we are not such a huge community, but if you want and ask for help and guidance, you will surely receive them :)
  12. The book is definitely a 'must read' for everyone that wants to become more proficient in combat flying. One more thing, there was a thread on these forums with links and descriptions of the various online squads, search for it, and maybe you'll find yourself a squad that is flying your preferred plane type and is recruiting.
  13. I mean ATi Catalyst Control Center (CCC). There are no in-game AA settings in FC2. But still they work pretty well when enforced via the driver's control panel :)
  14. simulator.exe is not a separate program, that's the executable file of the game. As FC2 and DCS share the same basic structure, in both games the main executable file has the same name. And no, you don't need a separate program, you just set the desired AA/AF values in your driver settings.
  15. Raytheon? Do you mean Radeon?
  16. Good work IvanK, I came to the same conclusion based solely on game experience, and now you back up my findings with solid math and science. :) Rep inbound!
  17. The radar seems fine, as Pilotasso said it just has less range, and you should leave it in a certain antenna position/elevation for a bit longer, for it to scan the entire volume(this in comparison with FC1.12). And yes in real life, the MiG radar especially in the MiG-29A has poor detection and tracking ranges.
  18. Go into the folder you installed the game and look for another folder called Doc. In there you should find the manual...
  19. Sad to hear you had problems with the event. After all, did you eventually get to fly or did you postponed the event for a later date?
  20. Thanks Mustang, I'll try them later :)
  21. It's not that different compared to FC1, so if you did well there, you'll do well in FC2 too. In BVR fights TrackIR is not that important, you mostly keep your eyes on your instruments, but when you close in, and your eyes should be out there looking for the bandit visually, then it makes a huge difference :)
  22. Yup looks very much like the Video card is to blame here. Try with another one to confirm or directly go to a service center/send the card for replacement. It's probably a hardware problem and there is little you can do about it yourself.
  23. Correct, but HL hosted servers will appear in the FC in-game lobby.
  24. Why separated server lists? It was the same story with FC1, only servers hosted via HL would show up in the HL list. When the big dedicated servers move to HL, the players will follow. One more thing, wouldn't the game browser see a game hosted by HL? Don't know the mechanics of the network interface used, but I guess a command line started server would still be visible in the game browser. So in theory, in HL you'll have the games hosted via HL, and in the game browser, you'll have them too, so that if you don't use HL, you'll probably still be able to connect to that server...
  25. I posted, hopefully many more will follow, and we'll have our lobby back :)
