It really depends on what you enjoy doing the most. The A-10C is pretty much ground attack only, and if that is your thing. Go for that one. While the A-10C has a lot of systems, attacking is actually quite straight forward - point the gun in the right direction and squeeze the trigger lol. It can get a lot more complicated, but it doesn't have to. The hardest part in DCS is finding the enemies, which is easily done if you turn on labels. If air-to-air dominance is what interests you then FC3 (or any of the individual planes) is great fun. The mirage is a very fun plane, and top quality module, but it does not have guided bombs or air to ground missiles. So it makes ground attack a bit harder unless you have big or soft targets (or practice straight flying a lot). And the air-to-air missiles have limited range compared to that of the FC3 planes. Which is fine for the campaign it is designed for (for online play this can be a disadvantage tho). The cockpit very nice to sit in, and I found it very easy to learn due to the clickable nature of the cockpit.

Has anyone got a guide or some good advice for BFM in the Hornet? (I typically fly ground pounders) I find myself struggling against AI in the Instant Action missions. I've watched Art Of The Kill, but I'm unsure how to apply it to the Hornet. I can't seem to out turn anyone without losing speed. I usually win just by slowing enough that they have to pass me, and then with a bit of luck of I can get a shot in. But I'm quite certain this isn't the right way! Many thanks!

That's part of the fear many people have. Because in the past people have been quite keen to avoid safety in order to make advancements (e.g. when the USSR made the nuclear powered bomber, and didn't bother to shield the crew from radition). There are also always unforeseen issues (e.g. all of the US scientists working on the atom bomb were seriously irradiated because they didn't expect it would be a problem). Frankly we were quite lucky that the planet is still in one peace after all of those nuclear tests (and accidents!!!!). Let's just hope AI is smarter and kinder than us. Because it will not be in our control for long. Slightly off-topic, but has anyone seen the move: Colossus, The Forbin Project from the 70s? Really great movie about AI. Stick with it the ending is worth it (DON'T WATCH THE TRAILER IT CONTAINS SPOILERS) :-)

In 2050, we will be complaining about how we only have the dated 2018 version of the F-35 module, instead of the F-35A mk.V with the A/A and A/G laser.

Try using num+ and num- on the keyboard with your HOTAS unplugged and also plugged in. This will let you narrow it down to whether it is a bug in the game, or potentially your throttle.

$500 or so, for pedals yikes If they work well for helicopters too, then I can see it being worthwhile, however that is a bit too much just for taxi'ing the hornet

I thought I would miss the A-10C, because of that big gun. But I already prefer the hornet in the ground attack role. I love the fact that I can climb to an altitude much faster for re-attacking. And The turn rate is very good on the Hornet, so it's not hard to turn back around for another pass. Even though dumb bombs aren't that accurate, screaming over the target area and letting some bombs fall in the AUTO/CCRP mode is just so much fun, and I can see this being very effective with guided bombs. The auto trim is nice too. The fact the Hornet can do it all, I can't see myself going back to the Warthog (as much as I love, it was my first DCS plane, so it's special to me!). Honestly the only thing that will get me out of the Hornet will be a modern attack helicopter with two seats, and even then the Hornet will remain as my main choice - until we get an F-35 (I can dream right?)

This will ultimately be the deciding factor for me. VKB and VPC aren't that much more cost wise, and the hardware quality is rock solid. I'd rather pay a little extra up front to not have issues down the line (as much as I'd like an authentic f/a-18 grip, I'll take reliablity over authenticity)

small footprint - very nice!

That's reassuring, assuming though he has used all of the available pedals (and not just a handful of saitek stuff) Glad we're seeing higher end stuff again from TM.

mzbMyAHE0mI here's a great comparison between headsets, which also shows how spotty text and gauges are.

I'd also wait 6 months to see what is around the corner. (especially if you only intend to use it in DCS. But if you make use of other games which are designed to overcome the low resolution, then you will get value for your money) VR is very fun, but despite all of the enthusiasm here, every other thread is filled with people wishing for a higher resolution display. You can't read the gauges properly (gotta lean in). And in most planes the HUD is hard to read. That is a fact, no matter how much fun anyone is having.

TM will be there revealing their new pedals: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=211956

The price will be interesting (and whether use crappy plastic internals the the TM Warthog joystick) If it costs too much, it'll be better getting a VKB T rudder (and possibly whatever VPC come out with). Although accuracy/precision will be important too. I could never get enough precision out of saitek and ch pedals, which made helicopters frustrating to fly. (as well as labor intensive a-10 gun runs). (where as with high end pedals, all of that happens completely subconsciously, and flying is a enjoy)
-
LOL well maybe it would be a fun mod
-
IMO wait until 2nd generation of headsets coming out in the next 6 - 12 months. Resolution is still too low. (unless you can get a cheap Windows Mixed Reality headset, or a cheap 2nd hand oculus just for fun, but there's no way you'd want to pay full price for VR just for DCS right now)

If you enjoy shows that combine cook and swearing

OK 22:30 in Aussie Eastern coast. Good night and happy flying y'all! I will join you tomorrow!

What should I do first in the hornet?

are we supposed to get serial numbers or anything? Or is it just all automatically done through the module manager?

I predict about 6 hours from now. Give people time to get into the office and to press the big red "release" button
