How come they are carrying TGP Lightning and Sniper on the same plane? Do they do that to target multiple things?
-
Just tell your parents you would like to become a pilot, and that all of the pilots on the internet said that they started training with DCS: World when they were 15. Therefore to be a good pilot you need a new computer, Thrustmaster HOTAS, rudder pedals, oculus rift and DCS World A-10C :D Of course if they want you to be a bad pilot they can just get you a Logitech 3D pro joytstick and a trackIR. And if they don't buy it all for you, you're going to start taking drugs, get facial tattoos, ear and nose piercings and listen to dubstep :P Also DCS World is an educational game, but your current PC only plays first person murder simulators. You could also tell them that a nice priest online said he would buy you a new computer if you go and meet him in the woods...... ....Enjoy the new PC :) Edit: Actually the real trick is getting a copy of A-10C for your Dad. He will get hooked and buy all of the stuff for himself, and you'll get to use it all. And if you're really lucky he'll buy two sets of everything so you can fly together :D

Orbweaver Chroma and Simple Radio Standalone
TomOnSteam replied to WolfK33's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I used to have a regular single color orbweaver with some labels stuck on the keys. It works quite well. But because of the labels it was only useful for one aircraft - or very generic commands for all aircraft. If was to do something like that again, for the same money I would buy a small touchscreen display and use Helios so that I could have more functionality. Or perhaps a very cost effective way would be to use an old crappy keyboard and put stickers on it and rebinding the keycommands with this program https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=156919&highlight=keyboard -
F-18 grip, WARTHOG compatible
TomOnSteam replied to hegykc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You could say the same thing about DCS 2.0 and even Nevada. That took what 5 years? They delivered :) As I'm sure Heg will too :) Starting a business is about setting up your dominoes so they fall the right way. -
Buying new Pedals on a budget.
TomOnSteam replied to Malefic Rage's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It's a bit of a tough situation for Australians, you either buy cheap and get cheap, or spend a fortune (and wait a long time!) It's like Australia is on the moon.... -
I actually love the fact that this is made from common parts from existing products. I'd never consider getting these of course, but I think there could be a lot of potential if someone in the community would make a DIY kit (that is good quality/right size/accurate). I mean the parts are probably what $50USD worth? If someone could figure out what parts they are using, then have a listing of the parts here on a community page that everyone could order for themselves, and then put the kit together. So there would be nobody that has to have stock or anything like that. Just an approved design. It could mean a lot more people have rudder pedals. This wouldn't work with a joystick, but with rudder pedals it could work if someone has the know-how :) EDIT: LOL! Also check out this collective https://world.taobao.com/item/526113043048.htm?fromSite=main&spm=a312a.7728556.w4004-13021866654.24.bTIbXW $10 :)

I do agree that we should be talking about population control now - some people want to wait until it becomes a problem, but that to me just means it will be harder to fix. Countries like India are already starting to do something about it - such as offering free cars to men who decide to have the 'snip' operation. Given that around 50% of children in some countries are accidents, this is a great idea for the countries where it applies. But for many first world countries this isn't necessary because for example in Germany the birth rate is an average of 1.3 children per family, so the population will naturally decline without any intervention. That's why I hope everyone starts talking about it, as each country will have different ways to apply an appropriate and reasonable solution. But we also know that the countries that have the largest populations eat the least amount of meat, it is the high consumption of animal products by first world countries that is causing most of the environmental problems. We're talking something along the lines of 50-100 billion animals being bred each and every year (with many of these animals like cows being larger than humans). So even if only 1 billion humans lived on earth, and they lived only in USA and Western Europe , then those 1 billion people would still have around 50+ billion animals breeding for our consumption, with forests being destroyed to feed these animals, their waste poisoning oceans, their methane and c02 creating global warming and all of it's extinction effects. The problems aren't also just to do with the amount of animals, but the farming practices - such mass antibiotics use, which will sooner or later become a doomsday scenario. Thanks to overuse of antibiotics in animal farming we've created bacteria that have evolved to be immune to antibiotics. This might end up being the population control that is needed, but certainly it will be killing people randomly, where to me it makes more sense to control the population not by death, but by slowing birth (as it doesn't hurt anyone then). As we know money talks, and governments are reactive to the people when it comes to social change. So in my eyes the solution is to vote with your wallet. Do not buy meat/dairy/eggs/fish - if enough people do this then it will have an impact. I know it seems very strange, but it is as easy as eating a bean burger instead of a beef burger :) I guess that was a very long way of saying, we need to do everything possible which is: eat far far fewer animals products, stabilize the population, and use clean energy. The change will only happen if we as individuals make these changes. EDIT....and because this is the funny section after all.... :)

Open Source Joystick FFB / DIY FFB Joystick
TomOnSteam replied to Berniyh's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'd be first inline to purchase a FFB cyclic (and pedals too if possible). Good luck to everyone involved I'll be watching:) -
Buying new Pedals on a budget.
TomOnSteam replied to Malefic Rage's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If you can, try the pedals out somewhere. For helicopters especially I guarantee you'll be disappointed with saitek pedals. (For planes they are acceptable since it's much less footwork). Don't let your excitement get the better of you. Wait a little longer until you can afford the something better. Just like this reviewer I agree that a good set of pedals vs saitek/ch/thrustmaster generic pedals is night vs. day https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=142565 -
Buying new Pedals on a budget.
TomOnSteam replied to Malefic Rage's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've used Ch Pro and Saitek combat rudder pedals. I didn't like either of them. I can get more accuracy from a twist grip stick. They both feel like toys too, and I felt like I had to fight the controls instead of just having fun flying. I tried a set of Komodo Helicopter pedals and the accuracy was insane. It just felt right, I didn't even realise I was making adjustments because they were so smooth and accurate. Only problem is, they aren't cheap, and they're kind of difficult to get because the guy that makes them is a one-man-store, so it takes a few months. I think the VBK pedals would be my choice for planes though. My recommendation would be to not buy any pedals if you can't afford to by a good set. -
This is looking fantastic. I can't wait to fly it :)
-
Just fly the free modules then, it's fun enough :)
-
Buy the Mirage 2000 - it's no more difficult than an FC3 plane - except you have a clickable cockpit :)

GTX1070 over a GTX970 most games get about double the frame rate. But I don't think this will happen with DCS until 2.5 comes out. I personally don't think it's worth the upgrade. The 970 should give you plenty of performance on a single screen. (until you get to 4k). Multiple screens, then yeah 1070 will be ideal. I only run single screen, so I'm going to wait for the GTX 1170 or perhaps GTX 1270 depending on how things go.

There is no need to make partitions to keep things separate. If you use folders you can utilize your HDD space as one big pool, which makes managing HDD space a lot easier :) Both DCS and X-Plane (and most other apps) will place configuration, save files etc into your C:\User\username\AppData folder. So partitioning won't keep them any more separate than using folders, instead it makes it harder to utilize your free space. I wouldn't recommend getting an external drive for any files which aren't portable. Like most programs, Steam will also place files into your user profile folder, so it will probably freak out anytime your external drive isn't plugged in. Also external drives tend to cost more than internal. So if you can buy an internal drive (a much bigger one if you don't have physical room, and replace the older one). You can get 1TB for next to nothing these days. Oh I just realised you must be running a laptop notebook and can't fit another drive in? In that case I'd still recommend putting all of your "data" onto the external drive to make rooms for programs on your internal drive.

TrackIR Pro clip alternative
TomOnSteam replied to odin13's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Wait to see what Hegyck comes up with - he's claiming $35 for a whole trackIR system, wireless clip and all https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=104154 -
Try using Direct IP Connection on LAN.
-
I guess you are right, we wouldn't havemoderators otherwise :)
-
I hope that is not why they don't show previews. I'd like to think adults are developing these modules and if the models/textures etc are actually correct then surely they have the maturity to be able to brush off negative comments, since they aren't actually true.
-
I think being quiet is mostly due to there being a chance the module may get cancelled at any point during development for a variety of reasons. So it's best to keep it quiet until the beta phase.

Good thing he is a head strong individual :)

It just doesnt want to run smooth..

Stuttering to me would indicate a memory issue. But I also have 8Gb and I rarely get stuttering. have you got the latest firmware/BIOS on your motherboard? And latest Intel Chipset/Nvidia Drivers? There might be some memory leak or memory bottleneck bug that was fixed in an updated firmware/drivers. -
Controller Recommendations
TomOnSteam replied to ClutchCargo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think it's probably best to wait and see how Thrustmaster's new FCS HOTAS will turn out. It should be out in few weeks. http://www.thrustmaster.com/en_US/%D0%9F%D1%80%D0%B5%D1%81%D1%81%D0%B0/thrustmaster-teams-frontier-s-elite-dangerous-new-gameplay-experiences-announced-new-t16000m- I think the quality will be much better than anything from saitek. The CH Fighter Stick and Throttle is also fairly good (better than saitek) when it comes to quality. It just doesn't look as cool. It also depends on which plane you'll be flying. Some aircraft have fewer buttons so you can easily use a $30 logitech 3D pro. Edit: as mentioned by SV gamer. A trackIR is probably more important than a HOTAS. If I had $300 I'd definitely make the TrackIR the priority and get a joystick with fewer buttons. (It might also be worth waiting for this $35 trackIR system to be released by Hegyck https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=104154&highlight=replika) -
It's funny because the human race will be extinct in 100 years unless everyone stops eating animals and switches to solar energy. Oh wait that's not funny at all
