  1. However as often seems the case with DCS seems to happen on the first play through mainly and is hard to replicate or confirm. Its as if once the eject animation is loaded then it doesent occur again. Well thats assuming I am right but there is still something causing these very occasional drops.

Hey guys just reporting this bug/problem, its a VR/VIVE problem really (reported in VR section too) as thats who it will be noticable to most, but its still I think a problem that is the result of large FPS drops that happen in or out of VR. At first I thought it was the damage model, as indeed it was a few weeks ago, but I noticed although the game never seemed to get fps drops either when giving or taking damage, as before, I was still getting fps drops. Couldnt work out why until today and am pretty sure now it is happening whenever the pilot ejects from the plane, after taking damage. Hope devs can look into this as its not good for VR. This problem aside WW2 is really great so thanks for the effort and updates! Many thanks!

  4. Well I think its maybe a problem with the damage model in the spitfire as well. Occasional flashes I think when the spit gets hit. Performance is generally good FPS not the problem but FPS drops (losing 10-20 frames at once) are a killer in VR...
  5. You might consider asking the guy who makes VorpX if he can get DCS to run. Although VorpX isnt quite as good as true VR, performance is close to 2D, and the immersion and head tracking would still be there. It's damn shame Vorpx doesent seem to support some of the more famous flight sims, as although I just cant go back to track IR I would certainly find a VorpX experience with head tracking acceptable.
  6. No I understand were I still on my old rig I'd be bitterly dissapointed too that they forced DS upon us. Hell even now I wish I had the option as DS really means constant gamma and time of day tweaking! I can understand peoples anger because people were led to believe that performance would actually be better but instead PC requirements went up and left alot of people unable to play.
  7. Yeah hate to say it but DCS is just too demanding to attempt to play it as if any mission/campaign can be flown. If you want to enjoy VR/DCS its best to just make some missions with the ME and carefully optimize it and avoid anything that will tank FPS. Hopefully there are fixes on the way and vulcan will improve things, but really you just gotta try to enjoy it for what it is, enjoy the flying and set up some limited air and ground engagements with the enemy, removing anything that might tank performance (clouds at the moment for example). It helps to suck too, as I just love flying around blowing stuff up, but I think people who want to play multiplayer in which there are multiple Hornets buzzing around, are going to be sorely dissapointed especially because some modules in DCS are worse optimization wise than others which is a nightmare for VR. Correct me if I am wrong but shouldnt the developers of certain modules optimize them better (eg Viggen bombs) or is it all the responsibility of ED? Not really sure how it works. It is frustrating but VR and DCS are incredibly demanding, and over the past few weeks things have gotten alot better and it really does seem like now the merge is over, things are looking up. WW2 especially...the biggest problem that needs to be adressed IMO is not fps as my fps is perfectly acceptable to me, but the sudden and large fps drops that occur really are not acceptable. To this end damage models, clouds, and weapons/bombs/rockets all need to be improved/fixed. I've been learning the dora and the spit and they really are a joy to fly, it has so much potential, but I am kinda afraid even to try a campaign for fear of poor performance so for now I just keep assets to a minimum. For now just enjoy it for what it is and forget the fps counters. I'm in reprojection all the time but I still find performance very good and smooth within the limitations I set for myself via the ME.
  8. Not certain its related to your issue guys, but in VR there is a nasty cloud bug, that might well cause a flicker in 2D. The problem is that whenever I move my head clouds are appearing and then dissapeering again. Clouds are also causing fps drops for me which means I've turned them off until the problem is fixed.
  9. Performance has been much better recently than it has been in a while with the damage model no longer causing huge FPS drops. However occasionally I still do get fps drops or basestation flashes in VR using the Vive. This may possibly be because of the damage model (am flying the spitfire) still not being completely fixed (though I dont think so) however I think it's because of the clouds as the problem seems to go away without them. Clouds are pretty much not wanted anyhow because in VR they are bugged with clouds appearing and dissapeering whenever I move my head but still I would like one day to be able to use them! Anyone else aware of the problem with clouds and FPS? Recently I mean as I know it always has been an issue but I thought it was fixed.
  10. Thanks for the response. Just to be clear if I do it that way will the enemy planes start on the airfield/map at mission start or will they be loaded in later when triggered? Only way I am doing this you see is to avoid potential fps drops when they are loaded in! Thanks again.
  11. Has to be a better solution than setting what is modelled in the actual plane itself as a lever to a bunch of buttons though.
  12. I have plenty of levers and axes to use, perfect for the spitfire, but when I try to set things such as the mixture to an axes in the control options it never seems to work or register. Is it not possible to set things like the mixture (Which is a modelled as a lever) to a lever and an axes, or am I doing something wrong? Dont mind not having all of the levers set to axes but things like the mixture are important to be able to change quickly, and will greatly add to the immersion as they are levers anyway. Anyone tell me if this is possible? I think I was able to set RPM to a lever, but not much else. Many thanks
  13. Guys when I set the time of take off for my enemy planes, when I then fly the missions the planes are never there. Mission start time is 4.0000 and take off time I set to 4:0500. Five minutes past four right? I’m not sure if there’s something I am doing wrong but maybe later I will post a screenshot. But for now does anyone know why this is happening. If I reset the time to 4:0000, the planes are back again, they only seem to be gone if I alter the time in any way which makes me think I am doing something wrong. It was my intention and assumption was that they should start on the airfield/runway anyhow so even if somehow I am setting the time wrong I don’t see why they should not be present. My way to get round it is to use a trigger zone and activate the enemy planes but this often means FPS drops on the first mission play through as the assets are loaded in, which is very bad for VR. This can be mitigated I think by loading static copies of every enemy plane into the mission before the real enemy AC are activated, but I don’t want to have to always use this method. Any ideas?

Yes have to respectfully agree its really more than a little annoying (considering I had to buy the asset pack to get these assets) that for the allies there is only the AAA 40mm Boffers, and it often doesent fire and has no tracer so you even cant see it firing especially at night. I guess I will switch to German guns too.

  16. Me neither could never go back, I sometimes wish I could lol as lord knows what problems 2D users get apply treble to us, but yup VR or GTFO for me! Normandy WW2 is actually brilliant, and I am fooking loving it. The Dora in DCS with a jetseat (those guns whooo) in VR is just heaven, better even than the competition IMO, but in order to get it looking nice I basically have to fly on the verge of sunrise when its dark and just crank up the gamma! I don't really mind doing this because VR looks waaaaaay better with low gamma and less exposure, but I do like a bit of sunlight early morning or in the evening say. I just have to imagine the sun is hidden somewhere which to be honest is a bit rich in normandy! So I basically have to fly with no sun! Normandy does look fantastic though and flying like this really did make me realize that the normandy map is much nicer than I thought. The trees/sunlight distracted and detracted from the whole experience so much I couldnt actually form any appreciation for the rest of the map. They are like a festering boil on the nose of a beautiful woman! Luminous green! So yeah I hope eventually the trees (sun/lighting when it hit's the trees) in normandy will be fixed, and you're right what it will come down to eventually is how much the developers care about VR, because I can see the trees dont look so bad on a monitor. It's not really a tree problem either as buildings also dont look right (too cartoony) when bathed in the sunlight. So it's a lighting problem. That said, again for all it's faults its a fantastic experience, and it looks like the last update fixed the horrible lighting bug that used to make night flying impossible. I'm again coming back to DCS more and more again now. It's really making good progress whereas just two weeks ago it was unplayable for me in VR!

It's not the german flak, its the only air defence that Britain and france seem to have and its just black bullets that are basically invisible though I will sometimes see what appear to be flys buzzing around me before realizing good god I'm under attack. I'm flying Dora D-9 so I cant really use the german flak. And you're right without the tracer I cant find them, finding ground targets in VR is really tough to be honest. Any tips?
  18. Will that include tracer fire from the AA BN? As when AA is firing at me I cant see it! Kinda spoils atmosphere and makes AA difficult to find especially at night!
  19. They are really off putting in VR due to how they are a bright cartoon green. Are there any plans to fix them. I know VR is not a priority but they do really look garish, the map looks fine otherwise, and if the trees were the same as cacacasus I'd have little to grumble about visually.

  21. Honestly guys I bought the hornet and it flys with no problems. Neither does the Mirage or other modules, but for some reason in VR in the viggen bombings or explosions (when viggen itself blows up) just lag the game due to rapid and large fps drops. I think it may be one of the bombs in the viggen bomb load that causes horrible fps drops. Are there any plans to look into this as it really means I just avoid using what would be one of my favorite modules. Many thanks

  24. Hello can anyone please help, whenever I load up SSA nothing happens and the program wont load. Tried reinstalling but still nothing though sound mode still works. Anyone any idea what I should do?
  25. The main thing is to fix FPS drops which lag the game when for example taking damage or bombings! Its a problem worse with some modules than others for example helicopters seem to work great whereas the dora flashes me back to steam VR background if my plane takes damage. Also night lighting/shimmering is broken which I think the devs know already, but is does anyone know if this is a problem that is being worked on?
