Can we get an update on when the blue fog will be fixed?
Wolf8312 replied to Vampyr's topic in General Bugs
Issues I also want fixed (also reported multiple times by multiple people) Clouds popping in and out Clouds causing fps drops Strange flickering near the ocean (momentarily seeing a desert where the water should be!) FPS drops when pilot ejects FPS drops when certain weapons/bombs are used (or certain planes explode) -
I’ve noticed when by the sea, that the terrain flashes to reveal a momentary desert terrain. Not sure if it happens on all maps but definitely on normandy

Severe Framerate dips while firing Vikhr Missiles
Wolf8312 replied to briguy3's topic in Game Performance Bugs
This is not a problem exclusive to the KA-50 missiles. Large sudden and seemingly random FPS drops- Cccur if clouds are on or too dense. Big FPS drops when pilots eject (1st time). Big fps drops when certain kinds of bombs are dropped (mig 21, viggen). Big FPS drops when certain planes explode (Viggen MC2000). This may be because the weaponary explodes. Apparently too the same thing happens (or was happening) when SAM sites launch. This is a big problem that has been reported many times, and it will sometimes affect diffrent things, be fixed, and then pop up elsewhere, for example a few weeks before it was happening when planes were hit, or firing at other planes. It's especially bad in VR as it causes the game to flash and stutter badly in the VIVE sometimes showing a momentary steam VR loading screen. Its a problem in which it seems as if there is something loading up in game and it tends to be worse on the first playthrough. Here are some other threads in which the same problem is discussed. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=216336 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=215823 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=213404 These are all manifestations of the same phenonemum and probably the reason why people complain about stutter as I dont think it will be as obvious in 2D and so probably more difficult to isolate. More than any other problem in DCS -especially for VR- this problem needs to be finally addressed. I used to think it was my computer, so I upgraded from a 980ti i7 4770 but the problem still persists because its obviously a problem with the game itself. Again please look into this! -
Is this mostly in Jet, Helicopter, or WW2 plane combat? For me helicopters are fine. WW2 planes are basically fine but require a bit of breaking in (you need to shoot them down (make pilots eject) a few times to get rid of the loading flashes) Jets I haven't really tried enough, but in my experience only flash when using certain types of bombs, or when they explode. Important thing to rememeber turn clouds off! If you don't you will get random flashes. Trouble is although its 100 percent a problem with the game itself there are any number of reasons it might be happening. You might for example just need to update your GPU drivers Really wish the devs would fix this!

I have 1080TI and have noticed guys with 980Ti complaining that DCS is no longer playable with defered shading. On my computer using 1080 Ti I can use defered shading with as good or better performance than I used to, when defered shading was not an option. In short I think yes it does make a big difference. CPU though I quickly came to realize that an OC using i7-8770k does not really make much of a discernable difference, so I now don't bother...

I've always thought this was an exclusive HTC vive problem. Can you tell me how it manifests on the oculus rift? Do you get flashes and see momentary loading screens as on the HTC VIVE?
-
Can anyone tell me if this problem has carried over into the new release version?
-
Yes these 'compositor frame drops' (nice to know the name for them) are responsible for the steam background loading screen flashes. I also had to go back to the release version as they were occuring randomly. I also seem to get them (think its the same thing) when pilots eject, though it only happens the first time a pilot ejects so I just shoot down 4 WW2 friendlies and can then play on with no problems. If I start the game up anew though I then have to shoot down 4 more planes! Also occur, if I turn clouds on, or if I use the bombs with the viggen or mig 21(at least last I checked). It's the single biggest problem facing VR. FPS is not a problem IMO but the devs need to look into this problem above all else. They manifest as sudden drops in which you lose about 20/30 frames instantly. Problem has been reported many times, but with the latest beta I wasnt able to identitfy the cause (clouds etc). Just happened randomly...

Is this a problem with the latest version? Didnt notice it before. Getting some random steam VR background flashes as well that I am unable to isolate.

Has anyone noticed planes (wingmen) flying backwards? I'm not sure if I am just crazy so I thought I'd ask! Also noticed in SP planes seem to be moving around as if lagging. I just noticed I did have lots of downloads going, but could that affect the single player experience? I can see the planes from my view in cockpit flying backwards, but if I click F2 the plane is flying forwards. Can anyone put my mind at rest and tell me I'm just crazy?

Can I do this? I already made a mission that I am still working on and the allied side has no AA other than the AA bofors (Please give us some allied flak!) so I know I can switch Bulgaria over to another side and be able to use German units. However is this possible with a mission already made, to switch one team over to the other side? Is there anything in the way of allied AA for any other country? This is my one major complaint with the asset pack btw and I don't like to grumble, but why is it so damned lop sided! Anyway thanks a million guys, and asset pack aside Normandy/WW2 just gets better and better! More please!

Was I an idiot to buy the Normandy Map?
Wolf8312 replied to filthymanc's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
As a VR user love the map, no shortage of things to do, but yes trees are the worst thing about the map. I think, they have improved (Did I imagine that?) but they are still too bright and they flicker around all over the place making me very glad when I get high enough to no longer see them, after which the map is gorgeous! -
Are you able to isolate exactly what is causing it? Like I say its annoying for me, but I am able to get past it by running a mission wherein I shoot down 1 of each type of WW2 plane, after each eject the stutters/flashes don't occur again on second playthrough. And did you turn clouds off? Also what are your system specs?
-
Basically those flashes could be caused by a number of things and are more likely to occur in a campaign with a greater amount of variables. Luckily there is the mission editor so if you can work out whats wrong it can be fixed. 1. Cloud density- lower or turn off, clouds will defo cause random drops so I set them to off. Clouds flicker on and off anyway in VR. 2. Bombs. Certain kinds of weapons (I hear sam sites were doing this at one point), never noticed it with M2000 though it used to happen alot with the viggen and Mig 21 when bombs were droped. 3. Damage model, fixed on most of the modules I play but cant say for sure if there are still problems with specific modules. Few weeks ago these drops occured whenever I hit or was hit by an enemy planes fire! 4. Pilots eject (popping the canopy) is defo causing big fps drops and loading flashes, see link above for a work around, reported this one to the devs...... 5. Plane crash (again module specific notice it happens with the M2000 and the viggen), might not be the crash itself but the payload exploding I can play DCS without this ever bothering me, as I fly WW2 and helicopters but its a big reason I avoid the viggen. Havent tried jets recently. Use the mission editor and beg the devs to look into it! Great thing about DCS though is that the problem can often be isolated and solved for example by turning off the clouds.
-
Nah not a new problem- https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=213404 It also happens in the viggen during bombings. Used to happen in the damage model but is fixed now in that aspect. I noticed it happening too whenever the M2000 explodes, which might suggest like the viggen that its something to do with the AC's bombs. This is a problem DCS has whenever the game loses too many frames too quickly. Its a problem with the game and I suspect too, its related to memory, as if something needs to be loaded up in game. As mentioned in the link above it only happens the first time the game loads up so I can live with it. I have told devs about it but its an old problem, happened on my old and this new rig.

Yes indeed fantastic improvement one of the biggest problems solved! Great hope for the future thanks devs!

How to use the new WW2 assest from Update 3
Wolf8312 replied to muehlema's topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
Can devs please make it so that modern assets and WW2 remain seperate? It's kinda annoying having to sift through them all, even depsite having selected 'WW2' rather than a 'modern' scenario. -
Large FPS drops causes flash whenever pilots ejects
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in General Bugs
No news on this? It wasnt fixed in the update unfortunately. Still have to shoot (one of each) four planes down before I can go play a mission otherwise get stutters when a pilot first ejects! -
No I like it. I use it for simpler modules and its a great idea, just needs fixing up a little is what people are saying.
-
It can be somewhat offset by centering view so you are sitting further back in the AC. Then you can get everthing set up, and then reset it to normal before take off. This works great as long as you are flying simpler WW2 modules, or not doing much in the way of complex start up proceedures (can imagine on the A10C its impossible and maddening) where generally you only need to use what is directly in front of you. Needs to be fixed I agree because at present its rather illogical. We need to be able to use the mouse as well, because actually binding a mouse button to the HOTAS is for me the best way to fly in VR, better than voice attack, or using a mouse, its really very easy and convienient, the best and most efficent way I have found to press buttons such as landing gears or flaps. Only problem is how the hell can one press buttons that are behind you or nearly behind you? The best solution IMO would be to still allow the mouse to be used when needed.

Huge improvement in visual acquisition distance for fighters
Wolf8312 replied to falcon_120's topic in Virtual Reality
I cant get the mod to work for some reason no matter what file I put it in. Not sure its the mods fault either as in game I cant get labels or FPS counters to work in VR any more. Any ideas what may be wrong mate? -

Are you sure thats right, as I dont seem to have that View file in my saved games\Config\ file. I suppose I could try making one. Edit- I found it but mine was in D:\ DCSworldopenbeta\config\view I assume it should work just as well! -

Oh I was using OVGME but not that directory route. Hopefully as I use terrain mod already I can use 2 seperate profiles. Thanks for your help.
