PC upgrade with DCS in mind. Which processor?
Wolf8312 replied to Kelton's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well I have I7-8700-k though have to say I cant say I really notice the difference between stock and overclocked. I think after a certain point it's a case of dimminishing returns. -
Huge improvement in visual acquisition distance for fighters

So how do I enable the mod in game? I seem to have a problem were all labels and FPS counters are not working in game when I press them. Should this MOD just work by default? -
Large FPS drops causes flash whenever pilots ejects
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in General Bugs
Well I cant make the track, or not in the sense that it will be of any use. For some reason in VR now both the FPS counter and labels all dont show up when I attempt to use them. Perhaps its a mod I am using but I'm not sure. I made the track but even in VR on viewing, I can see none of the stutters and flashes that occured when actually playing it through the first time. In the track everything looked fine! -

Forgive my ignorance but you mean by providing a replay track? Will see if I can rustle something up. It should however be fairly easy to reproduce, load up a mission with FPS counter on and shoot down a plane watching for any drops when/just before he bails out. It happens for me without fail so if others are unable to reproduce it then perhaps the issue is with my computer (doubt it, as I have run many benchmarks and performance tests). I personally made a mission where I shoot down four different WW2 (friendly) planes, and there are FPS drops the first time each plane bails, but once they have bailed once there are no longer any drops a second time unless of course you shoot down a different kind of plane. If I run this scenario before loading up a real WW2 mission I do not again get FPS drops when a pilot bails, as for whatever reason DCS seems to have by then got the problem out of its system. If however I load the game up again afresh, the problem will repeat itself. I can live with it, but would rather not! I think this would not be so easy to see (perhaps a slight stutter) in 2D but I am guessing you will still see fairly large momentary fps drops that are easy to reproduce. A few weeks before a very simmilar thing was happening with the damage model whenever a plane was actually hit, but that problem is now thankfully fixed so I am hopeful this one can also be tweaked. Dont think it would be as obvious on a rift, as the rift dosent have basestation flashes (no basestations!) nor momentarily kick the user out to the steam VR loading screen (to be honest in this case it is never quite that extreme) in order to prevent the user from feeling sick due to a sudden loss of frames, but it may well manifest as a stutter in both 2D and on the rift. -

Got a link for the Vampire MOD? I can spot from huge distances with the caveat that the planes are above me and with the backdrop of nice blue sky behind them. Ironically it's as they get closer that I begin to lose them! Only when they are below me, and contrasted against the land, do I really start to struggle... -

I set up four different planes and shot them all down one by one. First time each was shot down caused bad stutters/flashes when pilots ejected, second playthough though everything was smooth. -

I cant get labels to work. Anyone know why not I bind it to a key 'aircraft' or 'all' but it doesent make any difference, no labels seem to show up. -
Large FPS drops causes flash whenever pilots ejects
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in General Bugs
Nope it definately seems to happen (FPS drop causing stutter) when the pilot decides to eject and at the exact moment he pops the canopy. It will happen for every plane the first time you use it, and the second/third/fourth time it won't happen. But if you change planes it will happen again the first play through, and then not again. I know I'm talking to myself here, but hopefully a dev will read this and have someone look into it. -

It might not be the eject could still be a damage model problem, or something else, but it happens when I shoot up an enemy plane. -

Yeah but does that mean I have to turn off MSSA completely? I've already gone down to 2, not sure I am willing to go further! But I will check it out as spotting is absurdly difficult whenever a plane is on land and below me. -

Any dev aware of this problem? Wouldnt really be noticible in 2D but affects VR or the HTC vive at least. -
Update- dont think it was the clouds, seems to happen when a pilot ejects (WW2) but dosent seem to happen again after that. Though to be honest clouds might still have problem as I dont use them anyway due to graphical glitches!

No I understand it, it would be very easy to pass it along. Luckily however time of day can still be altered before mission start which is the main thing.

Oh seems like I am not allowed to save my own edits. Thats dissapointing. Is that right?

found it man- open beta-mods-campaigns-spitfireepsom

No man, I can get as far as missions but there seems to be no campaign folder in there!

What the title says really, I want to make a few alterations as I play in VR. Can anyone tell me where the campaign missions are filed and in what DCS folder. Many thanks

Worst thing is I dont know if its something I can fix, or a VIVE problem. But theres alot about this online (vive users), and it only happens durring large fps drops which are not really something I can do anything about. So what happens in the Rift when you lose a lot of frames suddenly, does the game just stutter? To be honest most of the time its just a slight stutter that you can easily miss (the basestation flashes in the top right of the screen) but if it's really bad it can take you out of game (but its more of a flash). The other sim campaign mode has some missions that do this, but I'm not sure how often it happens, it seems to be specific missions. I think its on missions with alot of bombers or something but not sure... A few weeks back with DCS every time my plane was hit I had these flashes. It only happened with certain planes in combat I should point out, specific modules. There is a thread on this forum about it but it was reported by 2D users (and some VR) as 'stutters' I'll dig it up if I get time. It might also be something to do with steams version of ASW

Have you ever seen it using steam VR with the other sim Dburne? Its very annoying and immersion breaking, but in the rift I think I heard another rift user say such drops manifest in another manner. It happens not due to low fps, but because of losing alot of frames suddenly. Still it's not really steam VR's fault (although I loathe their stupid method of dealing with it/motion sickness) and happens because of occasional perforamnce drops with the game itself. Have you updated DCS to the most recent beta OP. Mine was unplayable a few weeks ago whereas now its a rather minor problem especially after playing for a while.

I still get this problem very occasionally (few weeks ago it was terrible) but it only really happens on the first mission, I think its because certain animations or damage models lag the game the first time they appear. When I play now I load up a test mission where I start behind a plane and then shoot it down a couple of times. First time I get these horrible drops, but then after that no more drops (I tried it multiple times) and I am pretty much free to play. Its not an FPS problem I dont think, or a problem I can fix (see specs) the game itself just still has problems when things are getting loaded in. Like I say the more I play the less it happens. As an example on a heavy mission, as the mission loads up, there will be a big drop to the steam loading screen. After that however when I die and reload this never happens, unless I quit the game and load it up again. Its not my computers problem just tht DCS is losing too many frames in certain situations. Not sure this happens on the rift, as its only steam VR that seems to stupidly flash the user out of the game. Devs will need to work on this and fix it, but compared to a few weeks ago, it is so much better than it was, and I can kind of live with it for now.

Restrict head movement in VR to stop myself ghosting through walls?
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Virtual Reality
How are you liking DCS WW2 lately Dburne? Gotta say was pretty miffed a few weeks ago, but am now glad I took the plunge. Normandy looks a little rough near the ground, due to shimmer and the fluorescent green trees, but after a certain altitude it looks truly beautiful and performance is generally really good. I'm thinking I could maybe use the persian gulf terrain as a kind of pseudo African campaign though that probably betrays my startling ignorance of geography! Cant say I'm too impressed by the one sided WW2 asset pack, though I imagine its being worked on. The lack of allied units (AA), and the absence of things like search lights kinda hider mission editing, and its annoying that all the WW2 stuff is mixed in with the modern even if you select WW2. Do you ever use the DCS ME? Its a very powerful and simple tool, very easy for an idiot (me not you!) to make good missions, though the only problem I find with making my own is that they are a mite predictable for obvious reasons. Might get the spitfire campaign. Have to say as well spotting is very difficult in DCS VR. Very difficult! ID'ing is not so bad though with a limited number of plane varients! Take care. -
Restrict head movement in VR to stop myself ghosting through walls?
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Virtual Reality
Interesting guys, but would be nice to have the option, as I am pretty resistant to motion sickness, with no problems in the other sim for myself. -
Should point out have tested it by shooting a plane out of the sky about 4 times in a row (using mission editor set up to test and replicate it), and these FPS drops only seem to happen when the game has loaded up, on the initial playthrough. Almost seems as if the initial eject animation has to be loaded the first time and so lags the game. This is pretty common in DCS I have found, whenever anything heavy needs to be loaded the game lags hard. Any ideas?

Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in General Bugs
Yeah can confirm I made a mission a few paces behind a spitfire, and just shot him down about 4 times in a row, and had no flash from either the damage model or his ejecting from the AC. Only seems to happen on the first playthrough having initially loaded the game up.
