  1. Agreed. Pilot eject, clouds on, certain types of bombs falling, or AC damage or crashes all seem to cause large sudden FPS drops, that are unrelated to FPS, and especially noticiable in VR. I actually upgraded my system for this very game thinking that my computer was the problem, and while I don't regret it, I can say honestly it did not solve the problem. It's a problem with DCS itself. Some modules are worse than others it seems with the Viggen being especially bad and helicopters tending to be good.
  2. Noticed and reported a long time ago as it is especially apparent in VR, but if you have clouds on, as oppose to a clear sky random stutters/fps drops will occur.
  3. The addition of motion smoothing is of huge benefit for Vive users with DCS, game is basically as smooth as one would hope or ever need, but certain modules like the spitfire (though not german modules I think because of more transparent propellers) suffer greatly due to the propeller and gunsight. In the other sim there exists a mod to turn the prop off and hence no more artifacts. Does anyone know if anything similar is in existence for DCS?
  4. FPS drops for example the fiest time a pilot ejects or, when certain kinds of weapons/bombs are used is the biggest annoyance all though I've kinda learned to live with it, it's the biggest blemish on my VR experience Graphical problems such as clouds popping in and out, ocean textures flickering brown, are also highly annoying. There needs to be more polish to existing content
  5. Ran a repair seems to have fixed it a little doesent flash white now, but a more ocean green from time to time. Better but still...
  6. Well I used to get the same thing with much lower settings on normandy but now its happening in white on the persian gulf as well. I think its a bug to be honest but I will check and see if you are right.
  7. And still brown flashes in normandy when viewing the ocean. Please for the love of god developers look into this issue. Not only has it not been fixed for many many months but now it's apparently getting worse! Theres really no way a release version should be afflicted with such a glaring bug. Please look into it and fix it because it ruins the experince on any map with ocean. In VR on the vive, with the new motion smoothing the DCS experience is now basically as smooth as the normal game with high pixel density and graphics maxed out, except for a few artifacts with certain (spit) modules, but this damned graphical glitch still persists! Anyone know of any way to fix this?
  8. VR porn won’t replace 2D porn for me for the simple reason that I don’t watch porn movies but surf for porn, meaning as many woman as I can possibly see in one erm... sitting.
  9. No unchecking mouse will mean you can no longer use the mouse which means you can't use any of the systems that require dial inputs etc. Other buttons just can't compensate for the mouse wheel which was a big problem! If the developers could fix this then it might work! I know in terms of realism it might not be ideal but its personal preference. Personally I find it to be the best solution (though I also like using voice attack and role playing that my co pilot is following my orders) until we get VR gloves with haptic feedback.
  10. Yeah but remember I too do use the mouse. I use the mouse combined with head tracking depending upon which is more efficient in any given situation. If I am in battle or a situation in which I need to act rapidly I use the head tracking/HOTAS button on my throttle for LMB, but when setting things up, or I have time, I will use the mouse if needed. For this to work correctly the mouse cursor needs to be moved to the centre of my screen, when making other preperations, so it is in the most effective position when I start clicking LMB with my HOTAS button. Its not perfect but in my opinion it's the best way to play at the present time. And I certainly didn't mean it's my way or the highway although in your case I know you were not suggesting this. Before I used to find it terrible too, but then I realized you could set up the mouse, to be used with the HOTAS. Certainly isnt perfect, but the best method I have personally found for VR in DCS. I really do like it to be honest!
  11. Yeah cause that’s what I said! I find it very efficent (HOTAS and mouse combined) and prefer it to using just the mouse on its own, that is all I said or meant to express, but would of course welcome any improvements.
  12. How long have you had VR man? I should give it more of a go to be honest. I have the exorcist budget cuts, and many other games to try, just can rarely be bothered setting it up!
  13. It is a very negative thing for a man like him, and in his position to come out and say, and makes me think these rumours about the rift 2 might be true... I've always beleived strongly that Valve and the VIVE developers cared more about VR games and gamers whereas with occulus I've always sensed an ulterior agenda (with both occulus and facebook) that I think will start to manifest itself now, as they will move away from making VR a gaming priority. I also think by keeping it an open platform valve demonstrated that they were interested in VR from a not entirely selfish perspective and wanted it to succeed as a technology as oppose to just a product. This was the reason I chose to go with VIVE from day one, as I never liked occulus. Don't trust them and never will. But dont despair man, others will take the tech and run with it. Of that I have no doubt.
  14. Yeah hate to say it, but for anything other than flightsims it would have been a massive waste. Mainly its a comfort thing. Between the weight the wire, and the stuffy heat (especially in summer) of the headset, I just couldnt play for any duration of time, and in the end who wants to stand up to play games at the end of the day when you want to relax. Although I do have some great VR experiences waiting (horrors mainly) I can never really motivate myself to get it all set up- though I do believe that its the future! I rarely have the room to myself anyway and theres all sorts of niggling or tormenting problems from the wire tangling itself -and me- up, to the chaperone bounds ruining immersion! That said I do believe in VR, but present gen, its almost exclusively a tool for flight sims for me personally. For VR/DCS (and the other sim) though it continues to get better and better and has been well worth the cost if you are into flight sims.
  15. I like the cursor moving with my head because I use a seperate/HOTAS key to press my mouse buttons in VR, but I also still use the mouse and mouse wheel for other things. So I need the mouse enabled, and have to move the cursor to the centre of my screen when I start a mission. In VR this is a great way to play, as I can use head tracking and HOTAS input for my left mouse buttons (much quicker and less fumbling than just using mouse) but still use the mouse wheel for other systems that really need it. I never found a better alternative than this and would NOT want to lose it. Trust me in VR this is the best way to play, as there is no need to use the mouse and head tracking is much quicker!
  16. Yeah it’s more difficult in DCS and best to use labels, must say though it does seem better lately, especially in maintaining a visual once the enemy has been spotted. Before they would be invisible as soon as they hit terrrain!
  17. You need to opt into the beta in steam VR. I'm not sure if it works on the rift as well, or if this is exclusively VIVE technology, so you may or may not need a VIVE.
  18. Ah well then it is good news. A large portion of the game can reap the benefits of motion smoothing, and they are significant benefits! Damned shame though cause aside from the horribly garrish trees close to the ground the normandy map is the man for WW2 obviously!
  19. Hum works fine on persian gulf only seems bad in normandy, will try vegas next! Yup fine on vegas too. There are always little jiggles on the others apart from Normandy, but its so infrequent it's acceptable and can just be role played as a slight optical illusion in the heat of battle. But normandy I dont know why but the propeller artifacts are constant and distracting.
  20. Ah spoke to soon for some reason works fine in the caucasus but is still bad in normandy! Maybe it was just a fluke! Damn it, its so damned smooth!
  21. Wow. Only played 15 minutes but seems vastly improved now, no more prop artifacts in my spitfire, seems like we now have very smooth gameplay without all the graphical corruption. Looks like a big step forward for VR.
  22. It's not better at the moment IMO. The artifacts ruin it and I'd rather have the default reprojection, especially with the shader mod. Still not sure how rift users are able to get a smooth experience without any reprojection though as on the vive its a total judder fest if I do that!
  23. What are you specs buddy? Motion smoothing is much better for me too in terms of smoothness I could not even feel ASW, but there was alot of ghosting and a terrible amount of weird artifacts as if looking through water. I found shader mod to be about as good as MS, though without mod, I would probably go with MS. Really hope it will be improved upon. If they can get rid of the artifacts it will basically be as good as playing without ASW, but its glitchy as hell at the moment. Weirdly it seems to affect some planes more than others. All in all its another tantalising VR story of so near and yet so far. You couldnt say its any solution for the future of VR, as its just to erratic.
  24. Yes, not sure if rift users use that one though. I think those who turn off ASW turn everything off, including steam VR.
  25. Defo for future proofing I would go with the Vive pro. How long of a future that will be I don't know but as others have pointed out, at present the technology still hasn't propely caught up with the demands of the headset itself and most people can't rock it to it's full potential. That might depend on GPU but I got a feeling with DCS the software itself is going to make a breakthough soon. Even the shader mod shows there are optimizations that can be made, so I can only imagine Vulkan will be a huge improvement. I also would get a vive pro because although theres nothing much out there at the moment if you've tried some of the stand up VR experiences you'll have seen they have enormous potential. Nothing really gets close to the immersion or terror (if horror game) of room scale VR! Those experiences were you interact with the enviroment with haptic feedback really do feel as if you are there. The tracking system and light houses are much better for the Vive but also the lighthouses stand a good chance of being usable in the future and not just with the VIVE itself. VIVE just got motion smoothing but this also causes propeller and other nasty graphical artifacts which make it at present useless for me and I think if the devs don't fix this it will be a waste of effort. Thankfully it can be turned off! If these are the prop artifacts people talk about getting with the rift then I have to say I am glad I don't have one, as I really do need reprojection personally, and couldn't live with the artifacts. Not sure if the rift has an alternative method of reprojection that enables one to turn it off and play, perhaps someone else can chime in here, and explain this. I know people play without reprojection on the Rift but I cant really understand it as no reprojection on the VIVE is awful. I would say they must be just immune to judder, but realistically there must I think be some sort of technology behind their ability to play with RJ off! Does anybody know how it is possible to play the rift with no reprojection or time warp or whatever you call it, and still get a smooth experience when this is not possible on the VIVE? Are oculus using a method similar to the Vive itself perhaps but people don't realize it? That's just me personally OP. I also just don't like Occulus/facebook so I could be a bit biased, but for future proofing as the OP asks, I would vote VIVE pro!
