Yeah, that's true. They're all a lot of fun. I'd even extend that beyond light fighters to say that I find all aircraft enjoyable. But light fighters are sort of the sports cars among them. :pilotfly:

That's a nice looking aircraft. I guess I'll be adding a Chinese plane to the stable when they release it. I wouldn't mind flying that. :pilotfly:

Yeah, I thought I recognized this one. Well, let me say this about that: the Christen Eagle has softened my stance a bit regarding civilian aircraft. That's not to say that I'm endorsing the idea, I'm not! But if somebody creates one, I would probably break down and buy it eventually, if it was really well done. But NOT before a prolonged bout of ranting and raving about the destruction of civilization, the impending apocalypse, and the end times being upon us. So they'll have to hear all that as punishment for having the cheek to make a civilian airplane for DCS, even if I do eventually purchase the thing. :pilotfly:

Trim as close as you can to level flight at the altitude that you want, then fine tune with the throttle. Don't try to fly the aircraft with the trim. You still need the joystick. :pilotfly:

Yeah, some updating on the Yak-52 would be nice. Do the avionics work for navigation yet? Can you rig the flight controls through the odd UI setup to set the yaw straight yet? How about we just pretend that the flight controls were rigged properly by the guys in the Airframes Shop? Fix the yaw and center the ball on the turn and bank instead of trying to implement the flight control rigging scheme in the UI. What's next, engine overhauls before you can fly an aircraft? Come on. I like the module, but properly rigged flight controls and the ability to navigate with the avionics, instead of hitting F10, would be nice. And I'm sure that a lot more could be listed, those are just the gripes that I find most irritating. What they have so far in this module is terrific, I'm glad that I bought it. But let's keep going with the development. :pilotfly:

There isn't one. After reading that repeatedly yesterday, I took the DCS MiG-21 up and pulled +5Gs in a turn without even trying hard. I could have easily overstressed the aircraft if I had wanted to do so. While I have never flown a MiG-21bis in real life, the DCS MiG-21bis performs about like I'd expect it to, considering the design and power. If it's really off, it isn't too far off. HWasp brought up some interesting points that should be looked at, but overall, I think it's probably pretty close to right under normal circumstances. It seems pretty nimble and all to me. You have to fly it the way that it was meant to be flown and have realistic expectations for the aircraft. And it helps if you have a realistic frame of reference for your observations, such as real world flight experience, instead of making observations based on books or other sims. :pilotfly:

What is clearly needed here is a T-34C Turbo Mentor, a T-2C Buckeye, and a TA-4J Skyhawk. And then after that, it's off to the appropriate RAG outfit. It's just that simple. :pilotfly:

Despite my grave reservations about adding the Christen Eagle II to DCS World (I believe my initial reaction to the announcement was something like, "It's the apocalypse! The end is upon us!") I succumbed to my weakness for aerobatic biplanes and bought it. Now, after a couple of hours of burning holes in the sky, doing touch and goes, and one flight from Maykop to Sochi along the coast, I've changed my mind. It's a charming little beast. So there. I was wrong, much as it grieves me to admit it. Outstanding work, developers! It's a great airplane and if you're a pilot inclined to aerobatic flight, you want it. Now, if the repaint artists would go to work on it, we'd be all set. The default liveries are nice, but they're the real OEM paint, which was undoubtedly very hip in 1977, but I keep hearing K. C. & the Sunshine Band playing in my head when I fly with them. A few skins that are maybe more 2019 would be nice. And maybe some retro schemes from the Golden Age of Aviation. I can live with Artie Shaw playing in my head.

Yep, the radar causes a dramatic FPS drop for me as well.

Nice work, to the team that developed this flight model! The aircraft now behaves like the books that I own claim it can. What a jet! This is one fun aircraft to take up and wring out. You just want to do aerobatics all day! In a close-up dogfight, she'd be a very capable adversary. The MiG-29 is definitely reborn in DCS!

We need more choppers. And not just AH-64Ds and AH-1Ws, although those are nice. But some non-gun platform choppers are needed as well. Allow me to elaborate... HH-46A CH-46D SH-3G SH-2F SH-60B SH-60F CH-47D KA-27 Mi-26 And so on and so forth. And I'm sure that other people can think of even more. So there's at least part of my wish.

For Oculus Rift users: To enable ASW, press right CTRL and numpad 4 while in-game. To disable ASW, press right CTRL and numpad 1 while in-game. Test with it on and off. A quick way to tell which works better for you is to look straight down at the ground while flying over a town. If the image is stuttering when you look down at the town and its buildings, you probably need to press right CTRL and numpad 4. If it's nice and smooth, you can probably go ahead and press right CTRL and numpad 1.

The other day, I was sitting on the couch watching, "Victory At Sea" (I own all episodes on DVD) when the washing machine went off balance and started making a loud, repetitive banging noise. Despite being absorbed in my documentary, I found myself quickly reaching down with my left hand to grab the collective. The Mi-8MTV2 affects your life even when DCS World isn't running. :pilotfly:

If we all stop consuming, how long do you think that Eagle Dynamics will be around? Oops! There goes your hobby! I've been onboard this product line from the beginning, since long before DCS World existed. Add to that the fact that I'm retired from real life military aviation, and have all day, every day, to do whatever I please, and it's likely that the amount of time that it takes me to, "master" a module may be very different from the majority of flight simmers. But thank you to all those who offered baseless criticism. I expect nothing less anywhere that I go on the Internet.

I picked up the Yak-52 and the Persian Gulf map a few days back, great stuff! Anyway, as I was touring the streets of the city of Dubai at just above car roof altitude in the Yak, I happened to look ahead and saw a station or short tunnel or whatever, coming up along the railroad tracks. They're sort of tan-to-gold in color, and there's lots of them on the rail lines. Anyway, I decided to test them, so I dove down and flew through one of them. I can now confirm that they are open, and the Yak-52 does fit. You don't want to be swinging and swaying in there, but if you line up right and hold her steady, you can fly in one end and out the other, no problem. So now you know. Check out the sensation of speed when you fly through one of those things, LOL! :D

New Mexico would make great helicopter flying terrain. I tend to stay in Las Cruces when I'm down that way, because it's a convenient stop at about the right time. But I like the whole state. Interesting terrain. I wish they'd give us more Russia. In fact, they could create everything from Lavry, Pskov Oblast to Cape Dezhnev, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, and from Cape Chelyuskin, Krasnoyarsk Krai to Mount Bazardyuzyu, Republic of Dagestan, and I'd buy it all. Then I'd fly helicopter exploration missions that would take days until I'd explored it all. But for now, I'd settle for them sprucing up all the Russian ships and the KA-27, giving the KA-27 a cockpit and top level flight model, and putting it all together in a Russian Navy package. I'd give them $69.99 for that in a heartbeat. But the have to move the little white antennas on the CGN. Those bother me every time I land in the KA-50. I wish the Mi-8 fit on a CGN deck. But I'd grab up that KA-27 if they made it flyable.

What should be fixed asap to make DCS a whole ?
Oubaas replied to BitMaster's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Fix the Normandy map. And fire all 3rd party developers that bail before a product is finished, or that take years to finish products. Seriously, how likely is anyone fully conscious to buy a Syria map created by the people who bailed on finishing Normandy? They make the developers at 1C cheer every time the Normandy map is mentioned. And while you're making them go back and finish it, have them fix the colors. Or add Barney the Purple Dinosaur so the colors at least seem appropriate. I'm very happy with everything that I have that was developed by Eagle Dynamics. And there are one or two 3rd party developers that can be relied on to deliver a good product. As for the rest of them, it's like buying airplanes from some guy in a dirty raincoat with booze on his breath, in an alley, at 2:30 in the morning. I'm about one more screwed up, unfinished 3rd party product away from suggesting that Eagle Dynamics protect their good name and end 3rd party development. -
I bought the Yak-52 and the Persian Gulf map the other day. That means that I now own everything except the Hawk, C-101, Bf109, and Fw-190. But don't worry, I'll pick those up shortly. I have to complete the entire collection. The specific problem is that I have all the terrains, and all the helicopters. There's nothing left for me to covet! (The Persian Gulf map is great for helicopters, by the way.) We need more helicopters, and more maps. This is urgent. :pilotfly:

Make me happy; give us some variant of the H-46 with an unrep ship so I can fly at sea resupply to the other ships. A little CSAR added in would be the icing on the cake. But honestly, I'll be buying any helicopters that anyone makes.

Nice! That's just the sort of thing that I'm looking for, rrohde! Time to upgrade the old CH and Thrustmaster gear.

By the way, as long as we're talking about this, does anyone know of a PC joystick that does have a brake lever? I thought I saw a VKB with one at some point. With all the Russian and British aircraft that I fly in my sims, I'm thinking that a second joystick would be a good idea. And if I could find a longer stick with a brake lever, so much the better. And then I need to upgrade my old rudder pedals. And I could use a new throttle quadrant. So, any peripheral recommendations related to flying would be appreciated. I'll try to break the news to my wife gently before I start upgrading...
-
The Yak-52 doesn't have toe brakes on the pedals. Look at the stick. See the lever that looks like the brake handle on a bicycle? That's the brakes. So they've modeled it for axis assignment, but not to toe brakes because the real airplane doesn't have them. IF you have a lever on your stick, you're all set. If not, you'll have to decide which axis seems closest to right. I use a slider on my stick, but have sometimes used a lever on my throttle quadrant. As long as we're talking about the brakes, you'll find that the ground handling is easier with a touch of brakes on. With brakes off, it won't steer as well. So when taxiing, give it a slight touch of brakes and work the throttle.

If we're going to do photo recon, I'll take an RA-5C Vigilante. Carrier-based, and you can add BDA runs to mission types.

Maybe Combined Arms would get more attention if people could see more pictures and/or videos. Post CA screenshots and videos here.
