Why So Few FFB Sticks?
martinistripes replied to martinistripes's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Just bagged a red trigger FFB2 for £47 including postage. :joystick: -
I currently have a CH Fighterstick and Pro Pedals but feeling I'm missing out without forcefeed back, mainly because I fly Ka-50 and want the trim to work correctly. I don't understand why there are so few sticks to choose from. It seems a toss-up between the Microsoft Sidewinder FFB 2 or Logitechs G940 (which having read reviews I have no confidence in). And it seems the MS SFFB 2 is a little short on buttons. Why don't we have a CH Fighterstick with FFB? Anyone? I know it's possible to bodge bits and pieces together but lets face it, it's far better to have something that just works out the box. Is there another option apart from the two sticks I mentioned; perhaps a less well known manufacturer? Has anyone heard of a new FFB stick in the pipeline at all? I owned a MSSFFB2 years back and while I remember the forcefeed back being very good, I know it didn't have a feeling of quality when it came to the buttons. That's not to say it's unreliable, just talking about the feel of it in the hand.

As F2P, I doubt CA would attract many of the BF or ArmA crowd, but I do like the idea of a server full of human controlled ground forces. Also, people seem to forget what beta status means. Many are making judgements and coming to conclusions already. The way I see it, CA has just opened a door to endless possibilities. I don't buy betas (I do enough wanting for patches with full releases), but I would say at $40, CA is probably a good investment when you consider the amount of work ED will put into this over the coming months/years. Given time, we'll eventually see DCS level ground unit creeping in, I've no doubt.

Russian coms in english version
martinistripes replied to Dr_Arrow's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
The sound package fixes both Russian aircraft. I would guess the A-10 module is unaffected. -
I see... Perhaps an in-game option is needed and all speech included as part of the World install. Thanks for the link (and to Mustang for the package). PS. As a suggestion for the Audio tab in Options: Authentic All English All Russian PSS. Just noticed the size of the download. At just 93 MB, no excuse not to include it as part of the main install. Thought it might have been bigger.

Why all the English speech (EKRAN and also radio transmissions) when I'm using Russian aircraft? I don't see why I should have to mod to get the correct behaviour. If anything English should be an option/assist and not the default. After all, this is a simulation right? Is there any intention to fix this, or do I need to start moving files around again?

Thanks for getting the upgrade version compatible.

How To Determine Friend or Foe in BS1 or BS2?
martinistripes replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I think Kite is just missing the difference between a transponder and interrogator. -
Wonder How it will compare to Steel Beast Pro

You just made me reminisce an old Microprose favourite :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_Tank_Platoon -
How To Determine Friend or Foe in BS1 or BS2?
martinistripes replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
That's harsh and plain unhelpful. They could've have at least done the gentlemanly thing, ie told you you screwed up, why you screwed up, and to get more practice before coming back. I think as you have probably found, it all boils down to correctly identifying vehicles on the Shkval screen and knowing the mission brief. -
Official DCS: P-51D Mustang Promo Trailer

Nice job GA. My favourite is still the Project10 trailer (from 5:04 -gave me goosebumps the first time I watched it). Love your work. -
Upcoming Black Shark 2 Patch Change Log
martinistripes replied to Wags's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
It was initially excitement for the 1.1.2.1 BS2 upgrade patch which many are still waiting for, but I think the issue got confused a little. Nate mentioned (in passing) we wouldn't have to wait much longer. I said it was good news, then suddenly it's like an official announcement was made. We all love getting excited around here. Don't ever feed us after midnight. -
Upcoming Black Shark 2 Patch Change Log
martinistripes replied to Wags's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Good news! -
With the recent 3rd party developer explosion, I only hope ED is stringent when it comes to deciding what is and isn't allowed to plug into DCS: World. I can't help but feel the meticulous effort that went into making the Ka-50 and A-10C so great, is going to get diluted with weaker projects. Especially with so much pressure applied by the masses to release certain aircraft. I appreciate an ED DCS aircraft every couple of years isn't enough to feed the fire, but please be ruthless in your inspection of other peoples work, and keep the standard high. Best regards.

Hi Wraith, I believe the P-51 was a part finished project picked up by Eagle Dynamics. They were impressed with what was already there and decided to push it along to completion and include it as a module. It wasn't something planned and started from scratch by ED. Dynamic single player campaign would of course be great but I think you'll find all efforts focused on the multiplayer aspect of things now. With real life commanders, pilots and ground forces things will be as dynamic as you like. Finally, any 2D cockpits your seeing are relics from the original Lock On: Flaming Cliffs which I believe was released in 2005. The aircraft was ported across and not a DCS module from the ground up. It's really a gift and, of course, far better than having no aircraft at all. Hope you're having fun.

Thanks, but there are already 6 of us (Su-25) in total. The majority (and sometimes all) of the AI are getting shot down as well. Maybe I am in fact being sent on a suicide mission. If anyone succeeds at this mission more often than not, I'd really appreciate some advice or even better, a track post.

I'm having problems completing the first mission of Cold War Warrior (Su-25 Campaign). The air defences are thick, AAA and SAMs. Can someone who's completed this mission give me a few pointers. I've read the mission brief to check what air defences the enemy have and am arriving at the RV, IP and strike point on time. I'm setting my counter measures to auto dispense. What altitude should I be keeping between rocket runs. Do I need to change the default loadout? I'm weaving inbetween attacks, but the AAA still finds me from time to time and if they don't one (or several) SAMs do. If the enemy air defense assets were halved, it might be manageable. But as it is, I'm thinking I must be doing something very wrong. Think I've had perhaps 6 or 7 attempts now. Doesn't bode well for the rest of the campaign. :noexpression: Oh yeah, what's more annoying is it takes a while just to travel to where the action is (even with FF).

Bloody brilliant!

Seems there's some English voice in FC2 when flying campaign on the Russian side. Is there a mod to convert it all to Russian? Can't seem to find any on lockonfiles. Maybe I'm searching the wrong place though.

All rifles are 'useless beyond a certain range'. The majority of rifles used today are effective out to approximately 300m, the AK-47 being no exception. Rifles are one thing I have experience with and, on the recieving end, I really wouldn't disregard the AK because of any particular ineffectiveness.
