I feel your pain brother. It's the only one I want out of the FC line-up. Looking forward to the next update!

Yes, it seems back then, even the MiG pilots were smaller than their US counterparts, so as to fit in their tiny jets. Seriously, I'm wondering if that image was photoshop'd. Or did the US pilots just have bigger helmets. :D

CONGRATULATION for this new version 1.2.8...
martinistripes replied to Skulleader's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Can someone kindly tell me the approximate size of the update with 2 DCS level modules installed? I have limited data ~2.3GB to last me 4 days. Thanks. -
Waiting for first discount on DCS: Mi-8MTV2
martinistripes replied to captainteemo's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I bought the Mi-8 day 1, not because I was so keen to fly the beta (I haven't even been in it yet -I'm still working on my Shark skills), but because I wanted to support one of my hobbies. Actually, I was really beginning to feel guilty for having spent so much time in DCS and reaping the rewards of all the updates and having only bought one product all those years ago. :music_whistling: So the fact I paid more for it doesn't bother me. These guys deserve some of my money. But sure... if you're a collector of modules or on a tight budget, I can see how the sale might be frustrating. -
1.2.6 and force feedback
martinistripes replied to Maxander's topic in Controller Profiles and Problems
True, although I often wish CH or Thrustmaster would get off their asses and build a modern and generic FFB stick. The MSSFFB2 works, but that's as far as I'm willing to compliment it. I'd be the first to throw it in the bin given a decent alternative. -
1.2.6 and force feedback
martinistripes replied to Maxander's topic in Controller Profiles and Problems
Hmmm. I'm not sure we're experiencing the same thing. As Maxander said, the delay makes it unplayable. I was repeatedly pressing keys, believing there was no response, or holding the key several seconds before it registered. But yes, on the whole, 1.2.6 is a great update. I'll just stay out of the Su-25T for now. -
1.2.6 and force feedback
martinistripes replied to Maxander's topic in Controller Profiles and Problems
I have the same issue. Massive input delay with keyboard. I'm also using MSSFFB2. Funny thing is, I've been flying the Ka-50 without problems. I just noticed it now, when I loaded an Su-25T instant action mission. It never happened to me before 1.2.6. Something very strange happening there. -
My FPS is the same as it was in 1.2.5, I know because I was performance tuning just prior to when the update was released.

Next DCS (Russian) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
martinistripes replied to Milene's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I doubt very much it's being left to rot, it just happens to be last on the list of FC3 aircraft to get an overhaul and separate module release. -
Its 2013 ... Really!!! Is that all???? DCS Performance
martinistripes replied to Nume Noctre's topic in Chit-Chat
I have my clutter set down at 150m and it's still enough to get the perception of height and speed when I'm low enough. 700m is still overkill in my opinion. Glad you gained some FPS anyway. Be thankful you don't need to play on a laptop like some of us! -
Since I'm running DCS on a 2.40GHz processor, I would guess 4.0GHz to be ample. In-game settings that make a big difference, are Civ traffic, Cockpit shadows, and Visib range. Also make sure TSAA and ground clutter aren't enabled simultaneously. One or the other's fine. If you have any settings enabled through your graphics control panel (using a profile), I'd set them to default/use the application settings. Even anisotropic filtering will eat away FPS. Welcome to the forum. :)

HUD diamond target marker in Instant Action mission
martinistripes replied to Fishbreath's topic in Su-25T Issues
From 1.2.6 changelog: "Su-25T: Removed targe diamond on the HUD." Very happy to see this finally got fixed. :) -
I noticed anisotropic filtering has noticeable performance hit if I set it in my GPU control panel. More so than switching anti-aliasing from 2x to 4x. In other games I've always seen the opposite, with AA having the biggest impact. Setting texture filtering quality between High quality, Standard and Performance made little difference though. Here's a question, does DCS apply any anisotropic filtering if I 'use application settings'?

Possible Stutter With Windows 8
martinistripes replied to martinistripes's topic in Game Performance
It seems thermal throttling is responsible for my woes. I recorded a log using this program. It won't let me upload the log file, but the cores had thermal throttling status which changed from No to Yes on cores #2 and #3 at approx. 85 degrees. I haven't had the back off for a while now so I'll give her a dust out (and try connecting my laptop cooler which I usually leave off). :music_whistling: Apologies to Microsoft. :P -
Possible Stutter With Windows 8
martinistripes replied to martinistripes's topic in Game Performance
No EIST settings in BIOS. And I disabled anything that might be saving power in Power Options. (ie Minimum processor state 100% and Link State Power Management Off). I also re-installed any intel drivers for my system from the Clevo site. No change. Before I take the plunge and re-install Windows 7. Anything else that could be choking the CPU to reduce heat/power consumption? -

Possible Stutter With Windows 8
martinistripes replied to martinistripes's topic in Game Performance
Ok, indexing & windows local account made no difference. I ran DCS windowed alongside the resource manager. The peaks and troughs coincide with the stutters I'm experiencing. They happen more frequently in windowed mode but to the same scale (ie dropping to similar fps for a few seconds). Ideas anyone? -
Possible Stutter With Windows 8
martinistripes replied to martinistripes's topic in Game Performance
Ok, I've disabled indexing. Should I disable Windows search service? I'm also going to make my user account an offline one. No, my older system without the stutter has traditional 7200RPM. -
Possible Stutter With Windows 8
martinistripes replied to martinistripes's topic in Game Performance
Weird, just tried to do that but I captured my desktop rather than the DCS World UI. Textures: HIGH Scenes: HIGH Civ traffic: OFF Water: MEDIUM Visib range: MEDIUM Heat blur: OFF Sahdows: HIGH 1920 x 1080 16:9 1 screen 512 2x OFF 150 m 6000 m 150000 m Checked options: V-SYNC FULL SCREEN COCKPIT SHADOWS Ran another test, this time flying straight and level instant action, ground attack: first run dumped fps 45 seconds in, second run dumped fps 19 seconds in. So it doesn't appear to be related to my position, or where I'm looking. Also, turned off system restore, UAC and SmartScreen. Should I turn off indexing for my SSD? Paging file is managed by Windows. -

Thanks for the suggestions. Now tried it with 'High Performance' and 'full control' permissions. No change. -
Possible Stutter With Windows 8
martinistripes replied to martinistripes's topic in Game Performance
I'm sure the chassis I ordered didn't have any XFire options. I made a point of getting a more powerful single card to avoid complications and overheating. I just ran GPU-Z which actually shows sensors for 3 GPUs all with different readings. But isn't having multi-GPU different to having multi-cards (and thus XFire configurable)? -
Wait. So, what you're saying is, all the good times I've been having up until recently without stutter and perfectly playable frame rates between 30 - 50 was all just in my head? BrunoDerRabe, I've been playing DCS for several years now. I can tell you on the lesser system DCS still manages 20 - 35 fps with settings on medium. The newer system usually has anywhere between 30 - 50 fps settings medium/high. And for your information, I've always played at 1920 x 1080. I appreciate you're trying to help. But please don't talk to me like I just arrived at the forum with my first PC bought off the high street. This is a reoccurring stutter I'm talking about. And not low fps due to hardware not keeping up. When the hardware can't keep up, you don't fly around happily for a minute or so at 40 fps and then dump to 9 fps. EDIT: Just did re-test, fresh DCS World install. Instant action Su-25T, ground attack. Very stable between 55 - 60 fps. 1920 x 1080 all setting high apart from visible range and water at medium, AA x 2, HDR off. Occasionally dumps to 13 for a few seconds. And like I said... similar behaviour in v1.1.1.1. That rules out the DCS build. It's not the hardware, since I've been playing on this laptop a year and a half without this. There's only one way to know for sure if it is Windows 8 related and that's a fresh Windows 7 install on the newer system...

Possible Stutter With Windows 8
martinistripes replied to martinistripes's topic in Game Performance
SkateZilla, DCS is obviously using the AMD card... I wouldn't get up to 50 fps with Intel HD adapter. Also, I don't have XFire, but are you saying it can still be disabled in some way?
