  1. Sorry, but could you point me to the mod, please. I just registered with lockonfiles and can't find anything to remove cloud shadows despite a search. Also, I just updated to the latest official drivers 185.85 for vista 64 and still get the same effect. Curious if this is nvidia specific. Either way, I really hope ED can fix this.
  2. 185.81 from nvidias website. Once I'm in the air the effect isn't so bad. But it's always noticable on distant hills/mountains. In the near distance textures are solid.
  3. I'm running Black Shark at great speeds with high settings. However I notice sometimes the landscape above the horizon seems to be a little washed out and seems to scroll and flicker. It's usually noticable more so when I'm on the pad. GPU is a Geforce Go 9800GTS. But I'm wondering if it's easily solved by changing settings in nvidia control panel or nhancer. Has anyone else got this? I don't think this is the rotors by the way. Update. I've just switched off all nhancer settings and tried with low graphics settings and I still get the same effect. It's very visible on second mission of Deployment (escort mission). Also, it's definitely not the rotor effect either as if I look out to the left and right I see these. Is anyone else running the game with a similar video card that can confirm this or offer a solution. Thanks.
  4. Also having problems here. I've tried both methods flying in fast and low with guns and rockets and also standing off with missiles. With guns and rockets I fail to get the crosshairs on targets before getting gunned down, if I stand off I just cannot for the life of me spot any targets. The trees hide everything. Again advice appreciated.
  5. Can't wait to try this! Not sure what you mean though by computer is still in English...
  6. I just want to blow some smoke up EDs a**. I've been coming here sparadically for almost two years. Received a hard copy of the game a couple of weeks back. Spent a lot of time watching the tutorials, starting from cold etc. Still so much to learn but the more I played the more engrossed I became. I've been launching with DCSMax (great tool). Tonight though I spent a good hour experimenting with graphics settings using the game options along with nHance and checking framerates. I found a great balance for my system and am finally content here. The graphics are smooth and crisp while keeping minimum frame rate above 30ish. If anyone wants to hear more on this let me know. After tinkering with settings I wanted to have a quick play to check the framerate stayed high amongst the action so I loaded up 'Battle'... wow... about two hours later I finially dragged myself away. Was only playing the one mission but it's so immersive and the temptation to refly and have one more go is insane. Everytime a different result and just enjoying the way the helicopter takes damage and eventually comes apart in the air or shudders down to the ground. In short, this game is brilliant (and I'm playing with a gamepad! -wish I'd kept my CH from long ago but I thought sims were dead). I've not posted since receiving the game but this is my thanks to ED. ...I can see this is going to be a long love affair.
  7. The A's better looking anyway. I never did like that big bulbous growth sat above the rotors. :D Think about it... Nicolas Cage never had one. :smartass:
  8. I'm just a fan of authenticity. I play Silent Hunter III also. Much less complex, but after playing in German, if I switch the voices to English, I feel like I'm in a well known tacky Hollywood movie. I'm considering the Russian version and a heap of perseverence now... hmmm.
  9. Anyone? :music_whistling:
  10. I was about to post a new topic, then found this thread... I've been teaching myself Russian for the last four or five months now and was almost tempted to purchase the Russian version and trudge through it. On second thought I realised this may be futile given the complexity of the sim and my level of Russian. I'm about to pre-order the English version now and am curious, can the English version be played same as the Russian version ie. with full Russian speech, subtitles, cockpit and tooltips? Perhaps later down the line I will want to switch and use it to further my language studies! :D After reading through briefly, any update here. Can someone confirm the retail version will have support for both English and Russian languages?
  11. I've not seen it mentioned for a while so I'm going to stick my neck out and ask... Any update on the release of the boxed version?
  12. Here's one I did earlier (months back). http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=27373&highlight=helicopter The Apache was removed since it's already on DCS's to do list. Strong voting for the Mi-24.
  13. Give us a break! We don't all think like you. Some of us find fast movers boring. I enjoy a slower more tactical game down in the dirt using terrain for cover. Chopper fans have been thirsty for a long time, really... what have we had since Longbow 2 (1997?) in the way of high fidelity sims? Nothing. And in all honesty I'm kinda gutted the A10 is before the Apache and even Hind. The Hind... now THAT will be a good module! I can only praise ED for giving us the Ka-50 and not ANOTHER jet sim. Cheers!
  14. I was recently explaining to a friend how Black Shark is going to be the most realistic simulation I've ever known. His reply was, "What, like Call of Duty 4 you mean?" After I'd gave him a pan faced, "No". He then added insult to injury by asking if it would be out on the XBox!
  15. I voted 'other western'. Any era? A6 Intruder Something newer, F14. ...If you want F16 kicks there's already decent stuff on the market. It's already far overdone. Anyone remember 'Flight of the Intruder' by Spectrum Holobyte? :) The movie by the same name was equally exciting -because it flys low amidst all the AAA and small arms.
  16. YESSS! Thanks for the update! You don't know how happy I am to see that Mi24 cockpit! :)
  17. Sinking English merchants in the North Sea... (Silent Hunter III with GWX2.0) :pirate: This combination will suck hours from your life in the blink of an eye.
  18. I was just thinking (deeply!)... Some of you may have seen that the military are developing unmanned strike aircraft/bombers and even helicopters. Things such as the Predator but with a much more capable range, payload and targeting equipment. I don't know the details, I just saw a short snippet on Sky News. Well lets imagine, say another 20 years in the future, manned military aircraft may no longer be in production at all. We may be in the last few years of manned aerial combat. After this there may not be any more new pilotable aircraft exciting enough to simulate. Who wants to play a simulator where you control an aircraft from a seat in an office? It would be almost like playing a simulator of a simulator! All sims of the future may have to base their game on the designs of the present and the past. Current leaders such as the F16 and Su-27 may be the last of a species soon to be extinct. Will all combat flight sims (for as long as flight sims remain) be modelled within just the one century of time. Just some food for thought.
  19. How about you fixed wing jocks have had it too good recently and us poor rotor heads have had nothing worth excitement since 1997!! :chair:
  20. I didn't mean to start a debate on whether or not we should move on to fixed wing but just.. if it IS going to be a helicopter, which one?
  21. I'm not sure how early the developers make these decisions but which helicopter would you most like to see next (knowing the AH-64 is already in the pipeline)?
  22. You don't mean Apache Longbow... by the same crew that made Hind? That was difficult! There was an enemy difficulty slider I used to set to max and me and a friend once stayed up all night challenging each other to see who could sneak & dodge furthest along the waypoints before becoming toast. Just reaching your objective was near impossible sometimes. It convinced me to go out and buy Hind. If I remember right I think it was possible to link both games up, one fly Apache the other the Hind.
  23. I also got a copy off ebay recently. Works fine for me in xp, just used a program called dgvoodoo. Some achievement when you consider it's 10 years old and you compare to what other games were around in '97! I've had a play but finding it very tricky using my Thrustmaster gamepad especially with the realistic flight model on, you really need a stick and pedals. I'll have to invest... especially with BS on the horizon.
  24. Hind -favourite aircraft of all time! So menacing (remember the Rambo movies?) and versatile in it's roles. I used to love playing Digital Integration's old game. Hot troop insertions and extractions are a hell of a lot of fun. When I first saw Black Shark I thought this looks amazing, I only wish they'd done the Hind. Then thought, perhaps the next add-on but have now seen it's going to be the A10 then AH64. Yeah, yeah.. I know.. :smilewink: Just no pleasing some people!! lol Black Sharks looking very special though and heli-sim players are LONG overdue something like this! So, good work ED!
