I'm sure they'll be added eventually. I'm also sure I'll keep them far away from my aircraft, whilst chuckling to myself every time I see someone take off with them.

I can tell you without any track or tacview or anything that you pushed your engine too hard, too much. The Kurfürst WEP should be usable for about 10 minutes or so. In DCS, I try to use it no more than 30-60 seconds. Full throttle with WEP engaged is very taxing on the engine. You should only be using it to climb, or in short bursts to run away.

Nope. Forward has always been manual, aft has always been automatic. Even in 1.2 for me.

Chuck, my man! I haven't seen you in a long time, since my Cliffs of Dover days! It would be awesome to see you on our server. I think the great thing about this is having a bunch of guys together, all struggling and learning the same aircraft, all at the same time. I love the brotherhood that comes from struggling together. I think I'll pick the Mirage up now as well just for the experience of flying with everyone :)

It does have low velocity, but if you can't hit a maneuvering target with it, you should practice with it more. It is definitely doable. Then again, most people think I'm weird because I won't pull the trigger unless I'm right on someone's ass, and you have to go out of your way to miss when you are 30 meters behind them, whether they maneuver or not.
-
I think the bottom line is this: If you are going to perform an aerial maneuver in the BF-109 and think you're going fast enough to complete it, you aren't.

Have you submitted a ticket? I hesitate to recommend a full 100% reinstall. You can also try unloading your keys from steam and installing the standalone version, and then enabling your keys there.
-
Show us a video of you trying to do one. I'm almost positive you are flying outside of optimum parameters. And second, why does it matter if it struggles to do a couple of aerobatic maneuvers? The plane is designed to kill other planes, and it kicks ass at that.

I'm flying German aircraft but I have yet to find a campaign or even a few missions that isn't "Dogfight with the Red Tails". I am hoping there is a secret treasure trove of missions that just aren't uploaded to the DCS site or anything? Or am I going to have to bite the bullet, quit my job, and just make WWII missions?

At the end of the day, we are playing a simulation of various aircraft that gives us an idea of how to fly said aircraft. The F-16 pilot who worked closely with developers on a certain MicroPose sim said something like "if you ask people to create the most accurate simulation of an aircraft, they'll just design a real life aircraft." I don't think making it so that I can't trim my 109 and operate the throttle at the same time would make it "more realistic", just more annoying. In a simulation of aircraft, you have to make compromises somewhere. Can someone explain to me why were are arguing about the trim again?

I think a lot of people who are complaining about the 109 flight model being wrong don't know very much about the 109. I mean shit, taking off and landing the 109 was one of the most dangerous things you could do in the war!
-
Exactly. More drag makes it easier to slow the plane and easier to maintain speed without pushing the throttle forward and back and forward and back.
-
You'll get it. Good luck out there Messerschmitt.

I can understand the frustration, but I have to say, I think there are other issues that take priority over that. At least the trim works. The trim wheel should be able to be bound to a wheel axis and work appropriately. But until the brakes are fixed, we can change our gun ammunition, and I can replace my MW-50 tank with fuel instead of methanol water, I don't think we should lose any sleep over it.

Hold CTRL and tap E three times.

I beg to differ; Cliffs of Dover with Team Fusion's patches is pretty damn true to life. Regardless, that's such a stupid thing to say. DCS is not the greatest, end all be all flight sim there ever was. It's still lacking on major critical functions, there are other sims out there with models on par with DCS, and at the end of the day we're all tweaking based on our own interpretations of the hard data we have available.

This is the biggest danger when flying manually. And with the Kurfürst's badass engine, it's very easy to bump the throttle and look down to see your RPM shooting past 3000.
-
WEOW glad I could help someone. I fly my Kurfürst with manual prop pitch for the very same reason Brunotte and several other high profile Luftwaffe pilots expressed: more control. When I fly manually, I'm able to think ahead and prepare for maneuvers and also get the most out of them. That said, the Auto pitch control in the Kurfürst is very good. It's hundreds of times better than what we have going on in the E-4 in Cliffs of Dover. It reacts faster, changes faster and is smarter than the earlier models. But it doesn't give me the control I want over the engine. I also fly with my radiator manually controlled. Does that blow your guys' minds? Lol Definitely use manual pitch control for landing. When I start approach, I pull the throttle all the way back and as I slow down I increase the pitch slowly to 12:30, full fine. The trick here is to work in tandem with your engine. I do not exceed 2500 RPM for very long. So as you are preparing for your landing, chop throttle all the way to slow down to 350km/h while increasing your pitch to full fine (12:30) taking care not to overrev the engine. Lock your tailwheel if you aren't comfortable with a loose tailwheel I start to add in nose up trim as well to help me hold the sink rate without tiring my hand. As I'm coming in towards the airfield, I sometimes up the manifold pressure to .7 ATA to slow the rate I'm decreasing my speed. If I need some emergency power, I'll push it to .9 ATA which at full fine prop pitch will push the engine immediately to ~2500 RPM. At around 250km/h I drop my flaps, adjust my nose up trim accordingly and try to ride in just under 200km/h, keeping the close end of the runway level with the horizontal line on my gunsight (or front dash, if the revi is folded down). When I can't hold the the runway in my sight anymore, I pull the throttle to idle and flare gently, bringing my wings to about parallel with the ground, and then slightly angled up and away towards the nose of the aircraft. The idea here is to slow down, while dropping the last few feet of altitude in a controlled fashion. If you've done everything correctly and Mother Nature's wind is on your side, you'll gently land on all three wheels, minimal to no bounce and start rolling out on the runway. Unlike many 109 pilots, I don't let the aircraft roll to a stop, I use my brakes. I gently and quickly stab them in alternate patterns: left, right, left, right, left, right etc. GOOD LUCK BOYS. Welcome to the world of manually controlled 109. You're about to unlock the true power of the Messerschmitt's BF-109.

The auto pitch control I believe tries to target a specific RPM correlating to the current manifold pressure setting combined with current speed; in other words, you're somewhat right. As you move the throttle back and forth, the RPM of your engine is trying to dial itself in to whatever the manifold pressure is. The twitchyness comes from the way the prop is moving itself. As you increase or decrease speed, you may hear a "BZ! BZZ! BZ! BZ! BZ!". That's the sound of your pitch adjusting itself in increments. Instead of a smooth adjustment, it's making very sharp, small and brief changes. That said, I don't 100% for sure know that's what's causing the jerkiness that a lot of people say they experience. That's my hypothesis. I fly with manual pitch control and I do not have any really control issues.

Man, everyone is making takeoff much harder than it has to be. I just lock the tailwheel, do a few clicks of nose down trim so the aircraft doesn't rip itself up off the ground. I set prop pitch to 12:00, slowly push the throttle to 1.2 ATA, deflect right rudder as needed, and let the airplane fly itself off the ground. I never even have to touch the stick on takeoff.
-
This has always been a problem, as far back as I can remember in the LOMAC games. Tracks are next to worthless. Watching them will give you a different movie every time :) Hopefully they get fixed soon. It would be nice to have them functional and consistent.
-
Make sure the MW-50 switch is on (to the right side) before you push your throttle past 1.4 ATA, otherwise you're going to have a bad time.
-
I will toast to that. I love messing with you sithspawn, pls no bannerino :D I'm just happy that it was added, that will be a great improvement for the 109.
-
Man, who was the guy who kept saying that trim tabs weren't a thing and won't be added to the 109 in DCS? :)

Considering how long it took to get this far, I'd expect no sooner than a year and a half.
