I mean, two months ago I was also kind of upset with the state of the 109 prior to the introduction of 1.5. Now I'm fairly pleased with it. The only thing missing for me is the ability to edit my gun loadouts, and also that smoke trail bug in the 109 and 190. I don't understand the point you are trying to make.

Maybe I just know how to use the rudder and brakes during the takeoff roll. This isn't my first 109 I've ever flown. Fond memories of 1946 :)
-
Known issue I believe. I suspect it is tied to abrupt changes in manifold pressure. The ATA change when activating MW50 in the 109 is pretty substantial and instantaneous. The 190 experiences this issue as well when the auto ATA thingymajig kicks in at 3300m altitude and the manifold pressure jumps up by .2 or so.

Filthy casual scum mode more like. I don't know how I feel about just slamming my throttle forward and fishtailing left and right until I am airborne. I prefer a more slow, straight rolling but smooth takeoff. To each their own though. One thing I will say to everyone reading this thread is that you really should find what works for you. Everyone has their own method of takeoff in prop planes.

We are taking off on runways designed for modern jets. There is more than enough runway to support a 109 taking off with external weight. Strange. I am not experiencing that.

Interesting tactic. I've never heard of that before.

This is unecessary in the 109. This won't lock your tail or make your aircraft fly straighter. EZPZ takeoff is Prop pitch 12 o'clock full right rudder slowly advance the throttle to 1.2 ATA. Your engine should run no higher than 2500 RPM in this configuration keep using rudder as needed the aircraft will literally fly itself off the ground. I don't even trim nose up or down or use flaps.

Can you use the RAT to render a video from a multiplayer flight, of which you are not the server host? I keep trying, but every time it sits me at the map screen with the mission paused. I can't unpause it at all (nothing happens), and I can only cycle through F11 airfield views. Opening it as a replay, however, works just fine. I hit the unpause key and we're good to go. Does RAT not work for multiplayer sessions?

From what I understand and have been told (I don't know if this is 100% true though) the AI in DCS uses simple flight models, so it's trivial for them to maintain perfect flight performance right on the knife edge of their aircraft. It's kind of the reason why the P-51 can take 5+ 30mm shots from a 109, and suffer no performance loss whatsoever. But again, I'm not 100% sure about that claim. I'm just repeating what I've heard elsewhere.

god dammit.

I know what you are referring to. Candelaria used a wingover maneuver. The animation on that episode of dogfights is a little exaggerated; there is no way he stalled the wing and turned his aircraft 360 degrees in about 20 feet. But it was a really just a wingover. Which is kind of a prelude to snap rolling anyway when you think about it. You are just pulling around instead of continuing the roll. edit: hey someone posted the video, nice.

When can we adjust the rounds in our guns? That's the real question. This was a feature that Cliffs of Dover had that I don't think any other sim has ever done. I would really like to be able to adjust my tracers so they alternate :(

Well historically I believe the GAR-8 was pretty subpar. The only time Sabre pilots had a shot at using it effectively was when they had snuck up on a mig flying straight and level.

[REPORTED] 1.5.1 open beta Exhaust smoke

I'm not 100% sure but to me it seems to happen with an abrupt change in manifold pressure. The Focke-Wulf does the same thing when the pressure jumps up automatically upon reaching ~3300m altitude. -
This looks interesting. I've been wanting to say for awhile that without an ATO, the ability to frag multiple packages, and building/editing flight plans from scratch, any Dynamic Campaign brought into DCS would be essentially worthless. This looks like excellent groundwork for those features though. I'm happy someone else recognizes that at some level as well.

If you're turn fighting in a German aircraft then you should biomass yourself in real life. Your kills should come from your superior maneuvering, superior climbing, and superior speed. He pulls a hard turn, you go vertical and come back down on him. He tries to run, you dip your nose down and come back underneath him. There are circumstances where you have to follow the turn but it should never, ever, ever be your main plan.

[REPORTED] 1.5.1 open beta Exhaust smoke

So this is a confirmed bug? I see it happening to me all the time in the 109 and the 190. It's frustrating, visually. Can't say I have noticed any performance issues otherwise? -
What is this thread even about? I've lost track. What's the alleged problem with trim?
-
Oh god the "spitfire is too powerful" posts are coming. :(

I cast the necro on this thread.

That's exactly the kind of mentality people have that nets me tons of kills in the BF-109. "WTF WHERE'D THAT GUY COME FROM?!" I think there is a mod that adds a lot of WWII units and models to DCS. I seem to recall seeing a video where P-51s were escorting some B-25s, and are then intercepted by two schwarms of BF-109s. [ame=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHJ1NhV2II8]Found it. There's a link to the mod list in the description.[/ame] No, the reality is that everyone thinks that a smart pilot flying whatever their favorite aircraft is will always come out on top.

Thanks brah. Can I come over for football on Sunday?

This is something that is very important that if ED decides to implement a DC, THEY NEED TO TAKE NOTE OF. A dynamic campaign, single or multiplayer, NEEDS to have the capability of fragging flights and packages. Without that functionality, a dynamic campaign is essentially worthless in my eyes.

I love it. My dad is a retired Phantom pilot from Vietnam. The day the Phantom is released, is the day I surrender my HOTAS to him and sit behind him working the radar. Also, can you ask him a question for me? I recall reading an article awhile back that stated the Tomcat RIO had rudimentary flight training and controls in the backseat, so in the event the pilot became incapacitated for whatever reason, the RIO could at least hoof it back to homeplate. Is that true or is my brain just making shit up? I know most F-4 models had flight controls in both seats.

From what I understand, AI aircraft use simple flight models, not the same flight models we are limited to. It's the same reason an AI P-51 will survive 5 hits from the K-4's 30mm cannon with no performance loss.
