Thrustmaster Warthog issue
FeistyLemur replied to Sebakogu's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I find they seemingly time out in the A-10 module, the switches that is. Like for example sometimes if the EAC and Radar Altimiter switches have been on the whole mission, and I flip them down, they fail to register. So I have to flip them back and forth to get them to. I found the same behavior editing the lua files for other modules to accommodate the WH toggles. After I started using auto hotkey to emulate keyboard commands I never had these issues again. Though I use the A-10 module stock because the controller is premade for it. As for the single press buttons, such as the dms and tms switches, I've never had any problems with them not working. -
Is the Warthog HOTAS a sturdy one?

Well you can't go wrong with MFG really. And from the pictures they look nicely made. Competition is good. I just wish there was the interest in north america that europe, eastern europe, and russia has for people making sim stuff. -
I can't tell the difference. Everything seems fine. I have 1440p monitor.

Well, as long as it's only talking she shouldn't get too jealous. Being in France, I recommend one of Sahaj's extenstions. Shipping from Poland to France shouldn't be too bad. http://warthog-extensions-by-sahaj.com/ His workmanship is nice. Aluminum turned on a lathe. Seemingly pricey, but it's in line for what you would expect to pay a machinist to make something like this. If you ever need factory parts Guillemot is right in France also, so that's beneficial. -

My O-ring fell out after about 3 weeks of normal use. And mine is overall a nightmare for sticktion. I don't think it's the best of the bunch. I get a few days use after redistributing grease on the slide poles and its grungy and jumpy again. And this is with a 10cm extension. God willing I'll get a higher end stick with cams soon. -
Target Software keeps crashing

If it continues to be a problem, autohotkey is a great replacement. -
Man I wish I had access to a machine shop. I went into the wrong field. That looks really great.

VAICOM 2.0 for VoiceAttack
FeistyLemur replied to Hollywood_315's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've noticed the chatter gets quirky with the current version of voice attack. I never use it, but I accidentally turned it on and it timed out after a while too. I never noticed the time out in the .8 version of voice attack I was using up till a week or so ago. But again I seldom had it on so not the best test. -

Well, there's steel rails in the Warthog, and bearings would have cost probably 10 cents a piece on the volume TM would have ordered them. I ordered a dozen for 7 bucks from hong kong for my little scheme. It's probably teflon bushings on metal rails I suppose. Which honestly might not work all that bad. It looks like it has a lot of buttons and even a wheel on one side which is neat. -
Warthog Paddle switch issue

Some guy posted about breaking his stick and flat out buying a new one. Maybe he'll sell you the handle or the whole thing for parts at a reduced price. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=173470 -

Once those membrane style buttons start to get fiddly, usually replacing them is the only option. -
Thrustmaster Warthog Joystick died - Market?

They do on some at least. I bought an articulation sphere from them with no issues. -

Only way I could picture that happening is the lip breaking off the disk where the big centering spring rides. You would have noticed that though because it would make a racket if that spring snapped down. Or maybe the lip on the main cup that tilts. It's really simple to pull apart and look. It might be as simple as getting a 30 dollar part from thrustmaster and you'll have a working base unit again. If not keep it for parts. I live in Canada, how much do you want for the whole broken stick? -

I use static ATC with 1.5 and it works fine. Some quirks I've found with ATC. 1: Nalchick is misspelled as Malchick in the profiles, see note on first page. If you're practicing while calling Nalchick it will confuse and frustrate you. 2: At least with the A-10 module, It seems like calling the airfield you're already tuned to by name doesn't work. Like if you start your sortie at Krymsk and Vaicom is pre-tuned to Krymsk, and call "Krymsk startup", it doesn't seem to work right for me. Calling "Tower startup" when you're already tuned to a specific ATC seems best. You can sit on the runway and practice this with the radio off even. Just sit there and call "Anapa Options" "Batumi Options", etc, to practice tuning through the stations. Calling "Name Options" seems like enough to tune to a specific field. Keep in mind your radio tuning is separate from Vaicom "tuning" in hard comms. 3: I may be wrong on this but I think you are expected to always use VHF1 for ATC even in the A-10 which has 3 radios which can be configured to contact ATC. 4: The names of the stations differ by module. You can for example call Mozodok all day in the Black Shark and you won't get it, because the names are different. It's "Assistant" in that module. Always read the documentation specific to your module to learn the appropriate ATC names list for that module. What's even more confusing here, is they differ from what the map says. So in the shark you look at the map and it says Mozdok on the map, but that's not what calls it. My presumption is that he matched the call name to how the ATC controller voice over responds for realism. So you don't call Mozdok startup, and hear back Assistant, clear for startup. 5: Probably the most useful tip I can think of is learning the right cadence to speaking commands. On multipart commands try not to mash words. Don't call "Nalchick inbound", for example. Call "Nalchick", brief pause, "Inbound". Once you get used to the cadence of issuing the different commands it all works a lot better. -

Funny, with my interest in cncs and 3d printing lately I've been thinking how a sliding throttle like the one in the SU27 cockpit using steel rails and linear ball bearings would be super smooth. I wonder if that's what thrustmaster did here or if it's another grease and plastic setup like the WH stuff. -

The fetch data command is failing to fetch the settings. Therefore it defaults to easy comms. This is usually related to the path of where those are stored. Are you using the open beta install? Or maybe even the alpha 2.0 version? There's a note on the first page for open beta client users regarding that possibility. -

Maybe you have setup issues and it's not correctly detecting the comms mode. International keyboards can be an issue also. Make sure vaicom is correctly reading the game data and setting the comms mode. It tells you in the voice attack window, easy comms on or off, and whether its having errors reading files and stuff. -

With realistic communications the \ menu works on the ground, and in the air you must use the in cockpit ptt, Ralt \. Or in the case of the warthog there are multiple PTTs. This seems to just be how DCS works. Like how when you're on the ground you can communicate with the ground crew just by pressing \, but if you close the canopy they can't hear you and you have to use the intercom. (at least this is how it works in the KA-50 and A-10). Vaicom I believe uses \ for all ground crew calls with easy comms off, and Ralt \ for everything else. Yes the auto pause appears to be default behavior. I added a bunch of other commands to my profile though for pause, resume, external view, cockpit view, map view. Nice to not have to reach forward for the F keys. I think you can change the auto pause behavior on the start mission command by simply editing that command. Not sure what the reason for it being there is. -

As I've been practicing with JTAC it seems kind of like it triggers stages based on distance to target, like popping smoke etc. I was doing a practice one with the generic practice mission that's linked a few posts above. Anyway it seems to work best if you fly out a couple miles, request target while orbiting, acquire the target and do all the appropriate calls. There are quite a few steps. However I had a similar issue with my last target last night, even doing this I would approach the target and JTAC would call abort. But I think this was because they had given me an expected attack vector as well. They can also do this and then you're expected to attack from a specific direction. Use your course set knob when they do this. I was using the attack vector, but I was definitely not right on it. It's possible another unit destroyed the target already. That happens a lot in "shooting gallery" because there are a lot of other planes in the air. One thing to look at is the problem I was having. For type 3 JTAC after they say clear to engage you must call "no mark" to skip the IP inbound stage. Basically if it's type three and it goes right to clear to engage after the readback, immediately call no mark to progress the call. This is not documented in the manual. But definitely works with type 3. I went and tried that mission just now, it's type 3 JTAC, so you have to call no mark after clear to engage. That mission is also probably not the best for training, its fast paced with moving targets and it looks like it hardly gives you enough time to attack each group. If you miss or take too long JTAC seems to abort and go to the next. I managed to make an attack run on the first column, but missed, they called abort and I still got stuck anyway. -

I can think of literally no benefit to usb c for a game controller. the cables are stupid expensive, they're less durable, there's no need for the bandwidth. -
If it's of any help, I had paint color matched for the mig21 cockpit using akan modeling paint and have the dupont color codes if you want any made for your project.
