  1. Can we get an option to keep our head from clipping through the dashboard, cockpit glass, etc?
  2. Is LOS for LGB modelled? I'm seeing a lot of misses on ships and tall structures and my guess is that as I am lazing the target, the laser is falling on either a "pocket" on the ship or the backside of a tall tower, breaking LOS between the laser spot and the LGB.
  3. is there a way to tie the 54 skins to the in-game date?
  4. Please use this as reference.
  5. Before I type in the coordinates, I always look at 2 things Look at the tiny little window above the TID. If it's blank, you're good. If it says ANYTHING, symbol, waypt 1, IP, etc, I half action and cleat it. When I see that window is blank, I then look at the top of the TID and make sure a bunch of 0 are in the coordinates. That's how I know I'm good to input the YY
  6. Just curious if anyone has. I could see it working well to identify aircraft further than the TCS can but since there are no cues for the pilot hud like the TCS cross, it would take a lot of coordination.
  7. So my understanding WAS that the lantirn has its own internal navigation system separate from the 14 and uses it for stuff like area track. But when trying to use it over water, I can't seem to get it out of rates and into area track mode unless something is near the crosshairs like a ship. In open water, it will not area track a spot in the ocean with no contrasting features around it, and makes me think it does not use the inertial system to keep the crosshairs on a point in space in area track. So is that right? Area track uses imaging contrast in order to keep the crosshaired centered on a point in space?
  8. I tried doing that, but ran into this weird bug where doing full screen would make the mouse cursor hit some invisible wall near the center of view, preventing me from using the left half of the screen.
  9. It seems that you are still able to click off the reprojection screen, even with the option to keep the mouse in the reprojection window on.
  10. So during gulf war one and two, the coalition gained air superiority in the span of days and never lost it throughout the conflict. And yet I can only find 1 helicopter that was shot down by fighters between them. I'm guessing Iraq had more than one helicopter. Yet what happened to all the others? Did they just not fly them at all? And why only one? If the doctrine was for helicopters to work in groups, shouldn't the fighters that attacked the Mi-8 have also found others to destroy? I don't know, I feel like the kill rate should be a biiiit higher in RL if helicopters are that easy to pop in DCS as in RL. In that conflict at least.
  11. I always wondered how bombs could possibly withstand the tremendous impact of hitting the ground at such a high speed and/or altitude and still work. Like the Tallboy earthquake bomb. It's designed to penetrate deep into the earth before exploding, which fair enough, dirt is soft, but the fact that these were used against submarine pens, which meant that it had to punch its way through all that reinforced concrete and still explode. It reaches near Mach 1 speed by the time it reaches its target! How does it not just pop like a balloon and scatter its exposive contents all over the impact area? I get that it works, I just wonder how it works. And if there are instances where these delayed bombs actually do crack open like an egg against certain hardened materials. Like doesn't the detonation mechanisms just get flattened from the deceleration?
  12. So I've been wanting to make formation practice a little more interesting and unique. (spawning enemies is more interesting, but it can result in one or more people getting shot down, which forces the survivors to return to the spawning airport.) So I thought about trying to come up with tours of POI around the maps currently in DCS. However, I've never given a tour before and I am not an expert in history or interesting tidbits in these regions (or any other regions for that matter.) So I wanted to know if anyone here ever had to give a tour and how I can create and give one without having to spend the greater part of my time looking up and formulating one up from scratch. Is there a way to do this quick and easy?
  13. Using VR, it crashes, and while you can see the little blue window that allows you to report the crash, the mouse disappears when trying to click the affirm button and cannot report the crash that way.
  14. Yes, I've used the repair option and I'm using valve index.
  15. Does not crash to desktop, but rather just goes to black, the VR headset as well as the screen. Stays that way for an indefinite period of time or until I push the reset button on the codcs.log.olddcs.20210428-000038.crashdcs.20210428-000038.dmpmputer.
  16. So is DCS incorrectly modeling helicopters' visibility to radar? Cause it feels like they're always able to find me.
  17. I tried to look for examples of RL shootdowns of helicopters by fighters in the recent past (like 1980s and later) to see if I could learn anything and I can't really find a comprehensive list or anything. But the few examples I do find sort of paints the picture that helicopters getting shot down by fighters (Radar-guided missiles from fighters, specifically), is surprisingly rarer than I had expected, even if one side has complete air superiority over the other, like the first Gulf War in Iraq. In DCS, getting shot down by a fighter (as a helicopter) is rather easy so it makes me wonder what do RL helicopter pilots do to not get shot down so easily, (besides the obvious "don't operate in an area with enemy fighters".) I guess a better question is, if a RL helicopter pilot was forced, or had no choice but to operate in an area where enemy fighter presence was a threat you couldn't ignore, but at the same time you have no RWR or chaff to fool any radar guided missiles (as they are in DCS like the Huey or the Mi-8), what would that RL pilot do to ensure his own safety and the accomplishment of his mission?
  18. So ramjet tech has existed for a long while now, with the SR-71 coming to mind along with the ramjet prototypes predating it. I wonder why military tech took so long for ramjet A-A missiles to become a thing. What changed that they're now popping up? Maybe ramjets are difficult to miniaturize? Too expensive back then?
  19. So I am noticing that there are several weapons in DCS that REALLY pulls the FPS down like an anchor. The DPICM rounds for the MLRS, the 7.62 gun pods on the Mi-8 and just cluster bombs in general, though you do need to drop at least 4 in quick succession to get it to really make an impact. Any clue as to what is causing the FPS drop and any clue as to how it could be solved?
  20. Hi, so I use the TM WH with the TARGET program in order to get the most out of my HOTAS in modules other than the A10C + A10CII, but I am seeing an issue with 3 way switches on the device. Whenever flick the three way switch from one end to the other, skipping past the middle position, it will often be stuck in the middle position in DCS (the physical switch on the TMWH will be at the 1st or 3rd position.) Is there a way to fix this? Slowing down the speed at which I flip through the 3 way switch positions corrects this, but in high stress situations like defending or dogfighting, It's just too easy to do this too quickly, getting me killed because the switch was in the middle position instead of the 1st or 3rd position like I want.
  21. So what are the benefits of ram jet powered missiles? Are there any downsides to ram jets when compared to rocket propellant? (I mean fox 3s: Meteor, 120 and R77, but yes if you want to include antiship or other hypersonic missiles, sure.)
  22. Could the same thing might be happening with PHs? If the seekers on the PH use PD, they're still getting decoyed by chaff that as you say, do not maintain the speed necessary to create the Post-doppler effect required for the PH to see the chaff, yet the PH still home in on them. Edit: and before "that would make PH OP!!!", remember that PD requires sufficient closure speed, so you could sensor defeat the PH simply by turning into the notch, not even deploy a single cartridge of chaff, and become completely invisible to the active PH.
  23. Or at an A10 gun range in Nevada, watching (and hearing) A10s gun run dummy tanks several miles away every few minutes.
  24. I'm not talking about wallpaper, I'm talking about the full sized mig you're sitting next to in the vr main menus. Can we get a alternative space? Maybe the airboss chair in the supercarrier? Maybe the briefing room? Perhaps the hanger deck? Or the top of Burj Kahjlifa? How about from the beaches of the New Marianas map with planes flying by? I'm not sure what would be best, just a few suggestions.
