I would be pleased to see a short tutorial in the use of mist.msgBR to display bearing and range in response to a pilot using an F10 menu choice. Specifically, how do I pass the values for vec2/vec3, and recipient to the script? Example: The player presses F1 to see his/her bearing and range to EnemyArmor1. As a result of a flag being set, do script: mist.msgBR('EnemyArmor1', 'vec2/vec3', '30', 'recipient') I think I'm on the right track for doing what I want. What might be most useful is a tutorial on how to pass the values. If I can find them, I can use them. And if I can find them for this example, that opens the door to sussing damned near anything. I think I'm close...and it's driving me crazy. It's like that word you're trying to think of and it keeps flitting around the edge of your brain.

Finally. I got mist.ground.patrol working. A switched condition with a trigger zone around the last WP did the trick. I tried so many different combinations; At Mission Start with a Time More > 10; Once with the same Time More value, as a group triggered action, etc. I chose that particular MIST function because I happened to see an example of it and it looked basic enough to start experimenting and learning how to use MIST. 3 hours later, it worked. However, (and there's always a 'however') I watched my 2-unit group run the route through 3 round trips and then it simply stopped at its starting point. The second test, I got tired of watching when it started its ninth round trip. I've attached the tiny test mission if you're interested in seeing a successful use of mist.ground.patrol. Question; can slmod and MIST run concurrently? MIST_test.miz

Now with 16 GB of RAM goodness and a couple of SA-6's for the SEADers.

I have a computer not doing much right now.

Maybe those enemy units East of Batumi are a bit tougher than I thought. Took a round in the underside and everything stopped working correctly.

Mission Briefing: Red Forces are attempting to break out of Kashuri. Self-propelled artillery and an armored unit have moved up the river valley to threaten Kutaisi. The armor and artillery groups have stopped and are holding position while additional units are moved in to place. Air defenses support the artillery and armor. Now, no SAM sites have been detected. The AO is approximately 65km due East of Kutaisi airport. Smoke markers will outline the artillery sites and the armor's forward position. There is a COMM station overlooking the valley roughly 9 km @ 127 degs from Bagdati (LM25). It is undefended other than small arms fire. Another COMM station lies about 6 km from Tkibuli about 8 degrees West of due North (LM39). Reduce the AA strength enough and reinforcements will depart Kashuri. Local intel will pop smoke on them as they pass. If you see smoke on the road, they've passed within 5 minutes. Recon units will depart Tkibuli and Chiatura at random times. Local intel will pop smoke markers on them as they pass, maybe. The rotary wing group at Batumi should get busy searching the major river valley running East from Batumi. It's rumored that Red forces have moved some small advance units in to place to prepare an assault and capture of the Batumi airfield. Find those units and destroy them. Intel says there may be a couple of MANPADS in that valley. Grab a couple of squad mates, jump in a ground-pounder and blow some stuff up! Then come back here and let me know about performance, etc. Some screenshots are provided.

Kashuri Breakout is a WIP server. The content is devoted to air-to-ground practice. Right now I'm only running 8GB of memory in the computer, so I'm not real sure how much load it's going to handle. I know at least two people on at one time doesn't seem to cause problems, although I'm allowing for 16 slots. Come to think of it, I don't think I have 16 aircraft placed. Did I mention it's a work-in-progress? The briefing will provide a hint for finding target areas. Hint: Go East about 64 km...look for the smoke. Kill a couple of random units and recon units will hit the road and advance to Kutaisi. Reduce the air defenses by some percentage and reinforcements for those units will hit the road as well. There are currently no SAM sites. All air defense is Shilka and truck-borne ZU-23s. I'm crossing my fingers that the mission will properly reset every 3 hours. Get a couple of friends, blow some stuff up, and let me know how it performs. Thanks, Doodenkoff

So's here the deal. Here's a chunk of dcs.log from a "load mission" crash: 00780.591 INFO WORLDGENERAL: mission file: "C:\Users\XXXXXXX\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS\Kashuri_Stronghold_Breakout_2.miz" not found, trying Saved Games 00780.609 ERROR Dispatcher: Error: Cannot open C:\Users\XXXXXXX\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS\Kashuri_Stronghold_Breakout_2.miz 00780.610 INFO DCS: try to write dump information 00780.613 INFO EDCORE: # -------------- 20170522-180822 -------------- 00780.614 INFO EDCORE: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS.exe 00780.615 INFO EDCORE: # C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at 3FA2C572 00:00000000 I don't know why it starts looking in the directory shown; I pointed the trigger action at a completely different folder. If you're using slmod, your mission files might not even be in "saved games". So, I copied the mission I want to load at the specified path, "C:\Users\XXXXXXX\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS" and tested it on the test install I have here at work. It successfully ended and reloaded the mission. I guess a workaround would be to use a script or batch file to make sure your mission files are copied to the above directory. I'll test it further tonight.

A term used in the "Resource Manager" feature of the Mission Editor. Page 216 of the DCS User Manual. "The Resource Manager (RM) is Mission Editor a system that allows you to set a determined quantity of aircraft, fuel and equipment at each airbase warehouse and independent warehouse. Each warehouse (airbase or independent) can resupply other warehouses with defined speed, periodicity and size. The RM is a very useful tool for single player and multiplayer missions in which the mission designer can limit the available aircraft, fuel and weapons to the player(s). Thereby adding a level of strategic thinking of how to best use limited resources." That's copy/pasted right from the book. Those aren't my typos.

I cannot successfully configure this. On my server and my pc, DCS.exe simply crashes with errors pointing at WORLDGENERAL.dll. I've tried multiple ways. The DCS.log from my pc shows the .dll looking in a TEMP directory for the new mission to load. I'm bumfuzzled.

I got it. Even though it's "run as" administrator and I'm logged in with a standard account, the Scripts folder needs to go in administrator's \saved games\DCS. I was looking for it to do its stuff in the user's profile. Working as expected now.
-
I copied the scripts folder to C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS. I ran DCS as administrator and opened a multiplayer mission. Afterwords, there is no "slmod" folder created at C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS. Might there be an issue using Server 2012?

mirknir He developed and runs the Open Conflict server. His philosophy is admirable, smart, and flexible. His server is consistently one of the most populated multiplayer servers in the 1.5 server list.

Where are you getting 40 kn winds?

My comment was not disrespectful. It pointed out that in the Gazelle, a flat turn is beyond difficult. I can get beautiful hovers, I can take off smoothly, I can land the helicopter, but I cannot get a smooth, flat turn to either port or starboard. The variometer looks like a spastic one-handed clock; first heading south, then north, then south, then north. And I've watched this behavior in reviews and tutorials published to YouTube. The pilot starts a turn, and the helo immediately heads for the deck. They try and correct, and it's ballooning up into the atmosphere. I'm entirely willing to concede it is me....but I have no other module that exhibits this recalcitrant behavior.

No kidding. I left Krymsk in an Su-25T with TV guided munitions the other day planning to splat some AA guns from on high. My plans went up in smoke as soon as I hit the low ceiling. "Guess I'll RTB and choose something else". The wind makes landing on the carriers challenging too, you betcha.

No fooling? I'll be darned. I saw the mod mentioned in Chuck's guide and assumed it wasn't natively available. In my defense, I just got it this weekend through the Steam sale and I've flown it twice. Thanks.

Devrim has an English language mod for the Mi-8. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/668712/

It's possible to run a "server" from your personal pc. In that case, you would use the DCS installation and maps installed there, for both versions 1.5 and 2.0. For more robust performance, a dedicated computer--physically separate from your pc--is often used to run a mission as a "server". For 1.5 and Caucasus, it's all freely downloaded software. For 2.0, a separate purchase and keys are needed to run NTTR.

Except us. We're here, on this forum.

There are two Vulcan self-propelled AA guns at the oil field south of Sochi. One of them always seems to hide in the trees, making ID very difficult. I spent 15 minutes last night trying to find that second one after toasting the first one. I finally resorted to a lower altitude pass to draw fire and pin point its source. Risky, but I got him.
-
You need a partner in a fast mover that can draw fire.
-
It isn't very accurate. For example, my starting point was at 30m, the target was at 85m. I set the altimeter to read -55m and could not get a weapon release. The solution never thought I was at the correct altitude.

In the absence of dynamic weather, can it be safely assumed that QFE between two different locations on the Caucasus map always differ by the same value, regardless of the weather set in the mission? What I'm envisioning is that I can check the QFE difference between multiple points "A" and "B"--maybe between airfields, harbors, or other landmarks--in a single player environment, then when on a multiplayer server, I can use the QFE shown at the starting airfield to determine QFE at various places around the map. So is it possible to determine the QFE for a distant location just by taking the currently indicated QFE and subtracting or adding some specific value? As long as I know how much the two places should differ?
