These were created in photoshop, exaggerating the effect. If you look to the side when flying low at 45fps, you'll see the same. The second image is completely wrong though. Looking at the cockpit only, you'll never see this, btw. Reprojection compensates your head movements and it will seem fluid. It's only on world objects that move RELATIVE to your head that you'll see this.

Dude, this is just reprojection kicking in at 45fps. You don't have a strange, unexplainable phenomenon caused by aliens. This is normal.

It's way too late so I'll just link you to this: All direct quotes, you'll need to do the research on what happened later. Even if you don't care about lies, it's a fact that Oculus is building a closed ecosystem (which is really bad for VR adoption) and they're paying devs for timed exclusivity. But again, can we just abandon this?
-
Hey, let's not put an equals sign between the two communities. There are certain facts you cannot argue with about Oculus that its fanbase refuses to accept. Regardless, I agree it should stay out of this forum (or at least this thread) and we should focus on DCS on the Vive/Rift (respective topic).

From the SteamVR changelog:

I was wondering whether to post about that here, glad you did it. It's a very sad state of affairs indeed. I don't know who makes these calls at Oculus (Facebook?) but they seriously underestimate the pcmasterrace fury and backlash their moves are generating. Anyway, back on topic! :) I demoed the Vive to a bunch of friends last weekend and they were completely blown away by DCS. Out of 3, one was hit by motion sickness (pretty sensitive to it IRL too), one felt it but was generally okay (stayed in there for as long as he could and stated he will buy one) and one of them was unaffected. They tried flying the P-51 and replays in the Huey, btw. As a sidenote, they also loved roomscale and all of them said this is impossible to judge without experiencing it first.

This is how it feels like: 2D monitor: VR:
-
It cannot be done with the current engine and HW.
-
Who said it works? You should give up for now, it's not (yet) supported.
-
What about the other features you talked about last time (pixel density, mouse control etc)? When are they released to Openalpha? thx

This project took me quite a while but it was absolutely worth it! The immersion of having the stick where it belongs (for helos and prop-planes at least, plus some jets) and with the proper length, combined with VR is incredible. Flying helos requires the stick extension - otherwise you're stuck with tweaking curves and even then, it's nowhere near the precision.

Oh by the way. I had my parents try DCS, having them ride a Huey and then a P-51 (in recordings I made earlier for this purpose) and my 60 year old mother had the time of her life. She came out all starry eyed and asked if she could try controlling the aircraft. So I put her back in and let her fly over Vegas in a Mustang. She was absolutely blown away. She said she was always fascinated by flying but only ever sat on commercial airliners. VR has given her an experience she never thought she could have. Oh and when she asked how much it cost and I told her, she went: "Only??? It's worth 3 times that." :D PS Now I'm thinking of buying her an introductory lesson in a small aircraft as a birthday present.
-
Yes, you can do that. In fact that's what happens by default. (You need to press "Take control" in the menu to let them fly the plane.) I had friends and family sit in the Huey and enjoy a ride over Vegas with a track I recorded earlier. Only things, is when you start the replay, make sure you hit Ctrl+F1 to enable free view, otherwise the view will be the same as in the recording, which will make people sick in a heartbeat. :puke: Once you press it, the view will follow their head movements. Oh and also ask them to look straight ahead and center their views with NUM+5.
-
Erm... I looked at the last 3 pages but I couldn't figure out what this was in response to... Could you elaborate?
-
Well, I can confirm I also see some funny stuff with FPS. I tested a lot with one of the P-51 missions in the Openbeta and sometimes when I look at a certain place (mountain range with sun and water reflections) it will give me 90fps, then I look away (or at the dashboard) and when I look back at the exact same place, it will go down to 45, no matter what I do. This would also happen the other way around. And yes, sometimes even looking at an empty blue sky (zero objects to draw) will not give me 90fps.

Lolwhut? :D
-
Exactly this. Take a look at ArmA 3, for example. Same shit, just can't get decent FPS, no matter what HW you're throwing at it. It's limited by DX API overhead - it's got a lot of objects on a huge landscape. Not what DX9/11 was designed for. And that's exactly why the ArmA community is also longing for a DX upgrade - which sadly just moved farther into the future on their roadmap.
-
Honestly, instead of VRWorks, what I'd love DCS to support is DX12 or Vulkan. Most of the performance issues come from DirectX Draw Call overhead, that's why we see both CPU and GPS sit unused at 40% while struggling with framerates.

Looking at these two posts from Wags, I'd say there is a good chance it will come this Friday.
-
Because this is where Wags keep posting about VR updates. His last post in the Vive thread was from last July. I also hate the comparison posts but there seems to be a strong bias towards the Rift from ED, which I (as a Vive owner) am not too happy about either. I know the Rift is better suited for DCS (ATW alone is a killer feature) but as someone pointed out, the Vive is being fulfilled at a higher rate so there might even be more Vive owners out there at this point. I wanted to get a Rift originally but Oculus refused to sell me one (because of the country I live in), so I had to get a Vive (HTC didn't have a problem with forwarders) and I'm glad I did. Roomscale is simply mind-blowing. Still, I got my VR HMD primarily for simming (roomscale being a nice bonus for the entire family) and I'd love to be able to use it equally well as Rift owners.

Just stumbled upon this thread, it made my day :) +1 vote for Algeria, 40th most powerful airforce of the world!

How much better is Rift than Vive for DCS World?
Milopapa replied to captainkoloth's topic in Virtual Reality
My problem with that is, the VR revolution has begun in April and while it has ways to go to become mainstream (as in masses will have it), now is the big opportunity to shine. Trouble is, there is no real competition in this space, no alternative to DCS really. So a lot of us simply puts up with annoying decisions and looooong delays because this is still simply the best there is. -
Same here.. I cant get 90fps for more than a few seconds, and that's usually looking at a blue sky. Strangely, sometimes I get 90fps looking at a busy spot, and then I turn my head, look at the EXACT SAME spot, and it drops to 45.
-
Not that I don't believe you but it'd be nice to see where it drops to 45fps. The numbers are too small to see even in 1080p.
