I simply don't buy the alpha argument anymore. I've paid more than $200 in this game - I feel that 'entitles' me to expect a playable game. And they don't make any progress, they just announce new projects every couple of months and they never actually launch any (apart from early access/alpha, which is supposed to release them from any claims). I've pretty much given up on DCS, just checking back from time to time - only to find the same sad state of affairs. Btw, i've been talking about 2.0 performance, but 1.5 was pretty similar. I don't want to install yet another 25-40 gigs just to test that - which is another joke and should be one of their top priorities to finally merge versions.

Well, I've personally been waiting for almost 2 years now for NTTR to get out of alpha, and VR performance getting optimized. (Btw, 1.5 isn't any better - and that should be production code.) I just fired it up (after giving it a few months time) to fly around in a Huey, and I couldn't even achieve a stable 45fps with a 1080Ti! Mostly low settings, before you ask. Tried 1.0 supersampling, no use. My GPU is twirling its thumbs. My CPU is an i7@4.6GHz with 16GB RAM, so nothing short of a powerhouse there. DCS us using 11% of my CPU. Let's face it - the DCS engine and its maps are very poorly optimized, but ED has been getting away with it because the majority of its fanbase willl let them do pretty much anything. Also, lack of competition. Although, when it comes to a WWII setting: look at the IL-2 BoS VR implementation, which is only a few months olds and nailed it perfectly on the first try. Rock solid 90fps at 1.5 supersampling, with beautiful graphics.

How do you scroll with the button pressed down? Btw I tried this in a Huey, didnt work.

How to Create a Dedicated Server. 10 Easy Steps
Milopapa replied to H-var's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
Just use an old computer that one of you upgraded from. You can also set up Teamspeak or other servers for your group on the same machine. Set it up in a basement or a corner of your house where you won't mind (preferable on a wired connection to your router) - make sure you do port-forwarding. -

That's exactly my point, why would I even need a video card for a dedicated server? I'm accessing it through RDP. I guess there is no CLI server, right? -

I have the same issue - DCS crashing on launch, something DirectX. I'm accessing the server through RDP. Why does a dedicated server need to launch the game anyway? There should be a standalone EXE for dedicated server mode. *sigh* ED? -
I would also like to know. Don't even know what it is for.

I haven't tried 1.5.5 but I just updated to the latest alpha (2.0.4?) and I'm getting horrible framerates: 14-20fps just sitting on the runway where I used to get a stable 45fps (or more). What the heck? I reset my settings to low, no change.
-
I'd drop visibility to Low and up MSAA. I'm not getting stable 90fps on my 980Ti so I just upped settings to make it look better while holding a steady 45fps, since I'm in reprojection anyway. I have visibility on Low, but cockpit shadows turned on as I feel it adds a lot to immersion. Otherwise, similar settings. I never fly missions though, only free flight.
-
Hang on just a minute - MSAA in VR DOES work and it's much needed to eliminate horizontal jaggies. I use 4x as anything less is just plain ugly and breaks immersion for me big time.
-
Interesting... I didn't see a difference between asynchronous and interleaved reprojection in my testing. Both just dropped the framerate to 45fps. Smooth head movement but ghosting on laterally moving objects. In fact, when I enabled both, it went down to 30fps which looked pretty awful.

Option to set world scale / Enlarge / Reduce (airplane)
Milopapa replied to misoswan's topic in Virtual Reality
So does anyone with a Vive feel the scale is off? -
Sorry to ask but what's the point of this? Recording a 90Hz low-persistence screen with a smartphone camera...? Will give you no idea how it looks in real life.
-
I've been struggling with the same issue. Saving a track is hit-and-miss. There is a low chance it will work. I have 2-3 working ones saved that I use for demoing VR. Others, I end up crashing in a few minutes like I wasn't holding the stick anymore.
-
IDK, man - a lot of times you went down into the 30's with FPS, that's not exactly steady reprojection. And you were flying straight, doing nothing but looking at another F5. I can't imagine what this looks like over a city.

Option to set world scale / Enlarge / Reduce (airplane)

ICD is set by the engines's developer (ED in this case) and should be 1:1 from the IPD setting (unless it's a fantasy game and they want to make you feel like a dwarf). The only problem I could see is that the individual aircraft might be using incorrect sizes which would impact 2D as well - maybe not that visible there. -

Milopapa replied to misoswan's topic in Virtual Reality
My problem with statements like this is: how do you know there is a problem? That the scale is off? Feeling? Also, the beauty of 1:1 headtracking is that it will recreate the same perspective you'd have in real life if you were taller, shorter etc. A tall guy would feel more cramped and closer to the canopy in a tight cockpit as he should in real life. (This doesn't change the size of the displays or buttons or whatever.) I don't see what's wrong with that. Oh, and btw: IPD has nothing to do with scale. ICD (Inter Camera Distance) does - which is basically how far apart the two virtual eyes are placed in the VR world. If your ICD is not equal to your IPD (1:1 mapping), you can cheat your player's perception of scale. Example: if you set your ICD to 6.5 meters instead of 65mm (your IPD) you'll feel like a giant. Set it to 6.5mm and you'll feel like a mouse. Ever played Final Approach or Out of Ammo on the Vive? They have a god mode and an FPS mode on the EXACT SAME map. All they need to do to achieve this is change this one parameter. -

+1 I don't understand why the scale would need to change. Have you ever sat in a cockpit? Some of them are really tight. There is a reason why there is a height limitations for air force pilots. -
I think the main problem is an ancient engine which is a patchwork of enhancement over the course of a more or less a decade. It has trouble using the latest hardware even in 2D.
-
No, it is about making it work equally well. Like no Rift exclusive features such as pixel density, when supersampling setting is present in most high-end VR games on the Vive. So the cheap excuse of "SteamVR not supporting pixel density" is not true.

Can someone explain the frame rate counter in VR to me?
Milopapa replied to jasonstory44's topic in Virtual Reality
Vive has an always-on VSYNC, which means as soon as you fail to maintain 90fps, it will go into reprojection (45fps). There is nothing in between the two. The reason it seems smooth is because your head movement is adjusted on 90fps basis still, reprojection will interpolate head views. -
Have you seen this? https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2016/04/20/ue-4/
-
Yeah, although at the same time they clearly prefer Rift vs Vive. So I'm sure it would not be a moral question to support one technology vs the other in a competition.

Raw Data already utilizes Multi-Res Shading. Not sure how hard it was though.

Just another stupid sale announcement :( http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2814421&postcount=34 At least a roadmap update would be nice...
