  1. To be honest, if it wasn't for the community producing amazing mods, I'd probably not be playing DCS much. The mods that we have keep me interested in the game during the long periods between feature and content updates. I created my weather mod because 3 years after introducing new cloud tech, ED hasn't done much with the weather.
  2. Thank you all for the positive comments. I'd really like to create more high quality cirrus cloud textures. It'd be nice if ED could enable to use of more than four cirrus cloud textures. I haven't figured out if there's a way I can do it with modding the cirrus.fx shader yet.
  3. Fixed the first post. Forum was acting weird when I updated it previously.
  4. They are just replacement textures for the default cirrus. No setting required. They will change with every mission reload. Currently the game only uses 4 cirrus textures. I'm trying to figure out if there's a way I can add more.
  5. 7/11/2024 - Updated to version 10 - Updated for DCS 2.9.6 compatibility. - Cirrus cloud textures updated I created these new cirrus cloud textures from photos of real cirrus clouds. I think they look much better then my previous attempts to make them by hand.
  6. Contrails, yes. Simply edit the smoketrail.lua file and increase the values for LODdistance under the contrail preset. I also like longer contrails so I increase the Length value. For lights its not that simple. I'm not sure its possible through lua or shader edits.
  7. ED needs to go through and adjust all of the effects. Missile smoke is too thin and lifetime and view distance is too short. Many other effects need adjusting. These effects have little impact on modern GPUs. I'd like to see view distance for things like effects, clouds, buildings etc. added to the configuration options with a nice wide range. People running VR can keep it low for better performance and people running flat screen can crank up the eye candy!
  8. I tried messing with smokeLaunch.lua but It doesn't appear to do anything.
  9. This can be tweaked by editing the parameters in the smoketrail.lua file. I haven't worked out what each parameter does, but lowering the SegmentLength under A2AMissile* settings seems to produce a thicker smoke. SA2 launch modded:
  10. Do you have it installed with OVGME? I would uninstall mods, run a repair on DCS, then re-install mods.
  11. Updated to version 9. - New cirrus cloud textures added
  12. You install it into your main DCS install folder. The default path is "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World". This would overwrite the original game files, so I recommend using a mod manager such as OVGME. OVGME setup guide here: https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/OVGME
  13. The lowest ceiling you can set and still be able to fly under the cloud is about 1500 ft or 457 meters. This is a game limitation and nothing I can do to change it. You can set it lower but it just becomes fog, going all the way down to sea level.
  14. Assuming your DCS path is correct in the OVGME configuration, it looks like it's setup correctly. What makes you think its not loading? Easiest way to check it is to load into mission editor, click the weather panel, and check the cloud presets. There should me many new ones starting after Overcast and Rain 3.
  15. Yep, This one is definitely from my mod. I can tell from the cirrus clouds. I think it's great, love to see my mod getting used. I noticed Growling Sidewinder using it in his pre-launch F-4 videos also. I was beginning to think there was a weather update coming in the patch but nope, just my mod.
  16. Hi Everyone, Version 8 has been uploaded to user files. 5/23/2024 - Update to version 8 - compatibility for latest DCS version 2.9.5.55300 - updated cirrus layer https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3335023/
  17. The forests on Kola are the exact same trees as the Channel map and South Atlantic and look terribly out of place. The tree model files are exactly the same in all three maps. I hope Orbx comes up with a solution for this. Maybe use the correct tree models but just make the forests thinner. Combined with a good forest floor texture maybe that would produce good results.
  18. This was also suggested for the SA map and the developer (same as Kola) said they would consider it. Never happened for SA so I wouldn't expect it for Kola either. I for one would gladly sacrifice some storage space for higher quality textures. Not only terrain but airfield textures as well. Both SA and Kola have the worst airfield textures in DCS.
  19. Sinai is the best map we have for the Phantom so that would be phantastic if the update releases on 21st. Even though its been a long wait for this update, Sinai released in a MUCH better state and is much higher quality then Kola. OnReTech should be proud of that. Looking forward to the update!
  20. I agree with Hiob! I don't think it's too much to ask. I have a high-end system with a 4090, and I run DCS in flatscreen at 4K resolution. Even with view distance at Extreme and other options maxed my GPU typically runs between 20-30% utilization. If I crank up the view distance much higher through the graphics.lua I can get GPU utilization up to 70% and DCS looks so much better. However, that does nothing for the short range pop-in of ground objects, etc. The ED team has done a wonderful job improving performance in DCS. We just need some better options to tune the graphics settings to our needs. I want my DCS to look its best!
  21. I actually tried to do this already and didn't have any success. I was able to set the base wind speed and the wind at 1600ft independently in the editor but it didn't have any effect in game. If I find some time I'll play with that some more.
  22. From your screenshot there it looks like you have mod still zipped. You need to extract the "bandit648 Weather mod v7" folder from the zip file and copy that to your MOD folder. Then import with Open mod manager and it should work.
  23. I couldn't find a solution for the flickering buildings on those maps either. Its only certain building types that do it. On Normandy for example, London has flickering buildings but Paris doesn't. Even at 2.5 my GPU is running 30-50% utilization in most cases. Oh well, we can still crank up the view distance on Persian Gulf, Syria, and Caucasus Maps.
  24. I first noticed this issue on the Sinai map over Cairo. No issues anywhere over Israel. Its strange, it only happens over some very large cities. No issue on the Syria or Persian Gulf maps. I'll share a fix if I can find one.
