Don't know exactly to which extent it might be related, but I noticed the following opening that Instant Action with Mission Editor : - select the CV-59 on map > right column buttons > ROUTE button > Avanced (waypoint actions) ... the correct 59X code does appear ... but : - select the CV-59 on map > right column buttons > TRIGGERED ACTIONS button ... the wrong 74X code (from John C. Stennis) does appear. (see image below) Maybe this is causing the conflict we observe ? ( didn't yet managed to try editing and test it after )

Well ... Keeping in mind this isn't anything more than wishfull thinking, (and that whichever developer would be inclined to do more than one Phantom version), my preferences would be: - F-4E version, with the respective internal M61 gun - F-4K FG.1 with the dark grey (or dark bluish?) camo of Royal Navy squadrons - etc. Avionics wise, any due version which employed: - AIM-9G and its SEAM (Sidewinder Expanded Acquisiton Mode) feature - VTAS feature ...

Very good, I wouldn't find a better description of the Hornet's looks. Although I find it reasonably 'balanced' aesthetics wise, the F-16C airframe is more sleek to me. Regardiong the Super Hornet... yes, preciselly the details you mention, do make it look somewhat disproportional. However the only "con" I have to point to it every time I look at it, is I can't stop remembering: those "straight wings" (not swept like in the F-16) do hinder its top speed...

Yeah sure, it looks good. ... the damn thing looks like it was improved with a ball hammer, by Leepu Awlia from Chop Shop London Garage.

Thank you for the heads-up, believe it or not never noticed it was also "usable"... but it is. ( Thought that in DCS actually only the John C. Stennis and the Forrestal were able to do take-off and landing ops, and the other available Carriers were mere static objects or something... ) I've experimented already, and even without the respective catapult shuttle textures, it is possible to also take-off in the USS Carl Vinson...
-
Sorry @musolo for the very late reply, didn't managed to try it yet.
-
You nailed it ! Indeed, starting with the nose gear from much behind the shuttle (with the tailpipe still hanging out over the JBD), and then hitting U key eventually the aircraft will be bounced into the catapult's shuttle and connect.

F/A-18C Hornet or F-14A/B Tomcat? I can't decide which one :-o
Top Jockey replied to Loopan's topic in New User Briefing Room
I could think the same about WW 2 propelers or Korea & Vietnam War jets, but i don't, as I realise they just aren't my cup of tea... Actually it is very useful - its HUD displays navigation and weapons employment symbology, in the best possible way available when it appeared. I believe only with the arrival of the F-15 Eagle did HUDs got more of a modern "digitalized" kind of symbology... but since then eveything looks prety much the same. Regarding the F-14's cockpit ergonomics, you should compare it with USSR's jets of the same era... those were 'confusing'. -
1. ... besides being off-topic, some posts really look like the kindergarten hour ; 2. Before start talking nonsense " fighter X is better than fighter Y because I like so ", read first below with the due time and attention, just a mere example from who really knows what he is talking about : ( 6th post from top of the page, " A few points " ) ... I would recommend you start from that post, and keep reading further... as you might see, there really are TONS more to it than what we think we know.

Thank you, I can give it a try !
-
So far it appears to be a bug...
-
Very good then. Sometimes in IT world, problems appear from who knows where... have a good flying!
-
Certainly, best of luck!

Just for the record: The F-4K FG.1 camouflage is probably my very first favourite from the many Phantom squadrons worldwide. I know its time has passed long ago (probably even before I was born), but It's a pity that the Royal Navy eventually disbanded those squadrons.

Glad to know you finally managed to get it solved, but would you be so kind to share what was the main reason after all ?

Hey, you can always switch the VDI to TCS screen... and see some Rick Astley video... (Just kidding, saw it on youtube or something and laughed like there was no tomorrow.) -

Hello, Just a heads-up, eventually you might end up acquiring the two, because this is adictive... Full fidelity modules like the ones you mention, do carry a lot of stuf (avionics & systems wise, to know about)... particularly the F/A-18C, as it is a more modern bird, with many digital systems, symbols, sensors, etc. The F-14 A/B also does have its complexities, but I don't find it so much complex as the Hornet. So I would suggest the F-14 for starters - and even here if this is your first full fidelity module, you will find your "hands full". Although you really can not go wrong with any of them, as they are both very well crafted by highly talented and professional developers; in the end only you know exactly to which one do you fell more connected. Study your aircraft, read the manual (either the original or Chuck's guide) and have fun! -
Thank you! Almost always installed any kind of mods there, and looking carefully at it, it might be the cause of the problems... (However, I believe some of the mods readme files point to install them the core folders...) Is it possible to also use the logbook improvements in the SavedGames folder ? I've cleaned everything now, and will latter begin to try adding the mods at the SavedGames as you instruct - thank you for your time!
-
Hello, SavedGames folder ? (I also know what folder saved games is, but i believe I installed the files at the "core" folder...) ...so it seems I've installed it on the wrong folder right from the start : C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\CoreMods\aircraft\F14\Textures\Forrestal Could this be the problem causing the freeze? Because all the deck liverie textures appeared flawlessly...
-
Ok I'll post a new thread with the dcs.log file, in the DCS 2.7 > Bugs & problems > Game crash sub-forum. Thank you. edit: Wait a minute... at that sub-forum BIGNEWY mentions to users remove all unofficial mods, before reporting a crash (freeze in my situation). And i do have some mods: - pilot logbook changes to allow for US Navy ranks, insignias, medals, squadrons, etc (from @Home Fries); - better runway visibility and definition for the CV-59 Forrestal runway; - several aircraft skins for different jets. Is it possible the mod for the Forrestal might be the culprit ? (curiously NONE of the files the mod changed on the Forrestal's texture folder appeared at the cleanup process...)
-
Hello, It only happens (frequently at the least) if I recal correctly, since the last open beta updates when the Forrestal came out, and I don't remember it happening at missions with John Stennis Carrier. Maybe it is coincident with the last heavy performance hits from last updates, people are reporting in the forum. Should I open a new thread, or put the dcs.log file here ?
-
Just to report, this does still happen sometimes when starting the Forrestal missions; either Instant Action or Saved from mission editor. (After pressing the green " fly" button at the last briefing window, the F-14 cockpit does appear but it all gets freezed without any possibility to exit mission, the game or return to windows.)

Thank you for your time. So my doubt still persists: in DCS there must be a bug as some of us can not make the aircraft's launch bar connect with the Cat 3 shuttle, or are we forgeting any extra procedure specific for Cat 3 ?
-
Hello, Thank you for the insight, so if I understood it; does it mean that the Cat 3 isn't supposed to be working for launch operations ? So, in DCS's CV-59 Forrestal the Cat 3 implementation is correct as is ?

My 2 cents, Motivated by the various patches, of which I've read the DCS F-16's flight model was updated (for better), I've returned to the F-16 again yesterday after some time flying mostly the F-14 and F/A-18. - not that I can easily perceive by eye a much better sustained turn rate capability (as I'm a single player guy), but I can win a dogfight against A.I. Ace level JF-17, and every other jet (excluding MiG-15); - people also talked several times about the DCS Hornet's somewhat 'inflated' sustained turn rate; well against the A.I. flight model I don't have any particular difficulty in beating them also... but it could be interesting to fly against a human pilot in the Hornet (as the AI flight model can be unrealistic); - other than that, even years after several other F-16 sims, it's always outstanding to fully use the F-16's HOTAS concept again, which for much that I also praise the Hornet's cockpit, avionics, HOTAS, and weapons employment logic, I think the F-16 does have a more refined way on those; ... also I'm still waiting for the spot / scan functions for the AIM-9. Having said that, thank you ED for keep improving the F-16.
