Well my performance has been sorted out, turns out it was my fault all along (mixed up my HDD with my SSD).
-
Hi Flappie, yes all fixed so thanks for that. I can't believe I mixed up my drives (what a doughnut I am). In my defense it's a new PC and I forgot I bought a 2tb SSD not a 1tb SSD :music_whistling: Anyway, it's running great now, hooray.

Well it looks like I certainly got confused over which drive is which. I'll do a bit of data juggling and see how it goes. Thanks for your help Flappie.

Hi Flappie, Thanks for the response. I have windows 10 and DCS on separate SSD’s, both have around 500gb or more spare drive space. I actually think you're 100% on the money there. Just did testing with a bunch of other aircraft, and guess what? No stuttering, buttery smooth. Get to the F-14 and the lag is very present. Nearly constant fluctuations from 100+ fps to 20 fps or lower. Very strange spiking. The Super Carrier seems to exacerbate the problem when I get close to it (landings are not possible due to 5-6 sec lag spikes on final approach). Minor stuttering on the ground: Major stuttering approaching super carrier:

Evening chaps. Hopefully you can help me out here, I'm experiencing some really bad stuttering and slow loading and slow texture loading in all situations. It's partcularly worse in MP and some of the stutters can last 6-8 seconds. I've tried all sorts of setting combinations without success (G-Sync on or off, V-Sync on or off, minimum settings/max settings etc etc). I've deleted the fxo and metashaders, cleared my NVCache, and I'm unable to alter the scheduling (just don't have the option to do it). All system info is in the DXDiag, and I'm using a Trackhat head tracker. Just about ready to nuke the SSD from orbit and reinstall everything but I'm hoping there might be an easier option. I'd really appreciate any technical advice or ideas as I'm fresh out.

Exactly the same issue for me on an i9 9900k, 32gb RAM, SSD, RTX 2080 Super. Performance is shocking.

Zone 5 - DCS F-14 campaign with Dave 'Bio' Baranek in the making
Wavehopper replied to Reflected's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Oh boy, sounds great Reflected. Love your missions. -
The Robin Olds book says something similar. More to do with poor maintenance and understanding (and also weather conditions) than the missile itself.
-
Well thanks ED then in that case. Regardless, the swift response is great.

Wow that was quick. Swedish efficiency at its finest. Edit- Just tested it. Yup it's working. Fine work chaps.

Ah okay cheers Mike. Thought it was better to mention it just on the off chance it was something deeper.

I was just on the Hoggit carrier practice server (Fail Sail) and encountered an issue with the TACAN. TACAN was fine until I reached the boat and then it just quit on me. One other Tomcat pilot reported the same problem. I had dialled in the TACAN myself so I tried to get Jester to do it but there was no option under the radial to do so. I'm not sure if this is just a scripting error within DCS rather than the Tomcat (more than likely DCS) but I thought I'd raise it just in case.

No worries mike, that’s why it’s a beta.
-
It doesn't feel any different, it's just a lot more picky about approaches.

If the powered USB hub isn't the problem then it's most certainly the throttle. I've had to completely strip down my X-55 Throttle before due to this (had to strip the cables and use heat shrink to cover the frayed wires). Unfortunately it's not a case of "if" but "when" it happens. It is quite easy to fix, but it's a bit fiddly and not to mention irritating. They're just not very well designed. However you can do a fix to prevent it happening again ie. wrapping the wire bundles in coiled wire bindings.

A tad low as on glide slope but low.

Can someone confirm if they are having issues with the Sparrow? None of the Aim-7's I've fired this evening have tracked a target, all of them have gone stupid off the rail. I don't know if it's a bug or if I'm doing something odd.

I just did the carrier quali instant action mission. However, crossing the round down there was a collision of some kind causing the VDI to crap out. Looking at the tac view the model of the carrier seems to show a vertical lip at the round down which intersected my glideslope (I was a tad low). Tac view is on my dropbox at: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pa809dlhqdxn3j5/Tacview-20200520-181209-DCS-F-14B_IA_Caucasus_Quals_supercarrier.zip.acmi?dl=0 (my wingman seemingly just flew into the water but he was far enough back not to make contact with me)

Cheers Red, as others have said it's good to see a decent review rather than a fluff piece.

I really wouldn't use autopilot at all, you're only making it harder in the long run. To refuel the tomcat you need to learn how to fly it smoothly and maintain altitude. It's all about preparation and trim. Ideally set up off the wing of the tanker, match speed and trim until the aircraft is happily maintaining altitude with little to no input from you in the vertical. When the aircraft is properly trimmed it becomes a lot easier. The biggest mistake I see online is people being lazy with the trim and you can't do that in the Tomcat. You have to trim it constantly.

The art of the kill for Falcon 4.0? Yup, that is a glorious mustache. Try and take one element from what he is saying and apply it in DCS to understand it. Then do the same with the other elements he mentions. It may take several viewings but it's worth it, especially when he says "fly to the elbow". Also try and find an actual person to practice with if you can, it makes a hell of a difference.

Maverick's tutorial is a good start if you're struggling:

Got it yesterday, hot start in the air.

If it's violently buffeting you're pulling too much AOA and turning into a giant airbrake. Light buffet is good, it lets you know you're pulling the right amount. Personally I love it, you don't need to look at the indicator to know what AOA you're at.
