"We see 2016 as a big year for aircraft carrier operations as we plan to release both Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier modules. Both of these modules will be incredibly detailed models with working elevators, interior hanger bays, animated ship systems, and the ability to walk around inside the ships. These will be optional modules that would replace the existing ships currently in DCS World." Why would they give us the ability to walk around in the aircraft carrier if you could only do it after landing? I understand that doesn't imply everything the OP had. Just saying something similar is planned.
-
I think this is already planned (or something similar), remember the announcement of the upcoming carrier modules?

A well deserved position! Congratulations!

That was for razbam. Maybe because it conflicted with 'hem' other plans???? :smilewink:

... mods could you please move the OT part of this thread to the hornet chit chat thread? "Not correct. The YF-17 Cobra was the competition for the F-16 and lost. In fact, both the F-16 and the YF=17 never got a chance to be pure fighters, as the Europeans that were flying the Phantom and other airframes like the F-104, etc needed a replacement, so soon after first flights of both prototypes, they were told they needed to change course to multirole." ------------ Just because they were upgraded to have multirole capabilities doesn't mean they weren't designed to be fighters.... To "have a chance" to be a fighter they could just... equip a light A-A loadout. I understand pure fighter is a little different, but I never have understood this notion that multi roles that were originally designed to be fighters have somehow given up their raw fighter ability. -------------- "It wasn't until the timing of the design cycle for a replacement for the F-14 was the Super Hornet requirement laid out - another airplane that only looks like its lineage in the YF-17 and F/A-18, but is in fact a completely different airplane. " -------------- I'm sorry but just because the Navy changed a 7 to an 8 and made some improvements doesn't mean that the airframe lost the fact that its shape was that of an agile fighter. Don't get me wrong.... Were changes to the airframe made? Yes! But what did those changes accomplish? Better agility and flight performance like the LEX design giving better agility, and upgraded engines. While some things added weight like beefier landing gear, most changes to the airframe Improved A/A capacity... The FY-17 is simply the early airframe of the hornet, which was designed to be a fighter. So even if we say the 17 was a totally different jet, and the navy started focusing on building a multirole, how did they do that? By perfecting an airframe that was built to dogfight? My point was that the Hornet has being a pure fighter/dogfighter built into its DNA.

That's all true, just remember that the Hornet was built to be a dedicated fighter, the attack role came as a bonus in development. The digitalization of guided weapons has allowed pretty much any fighter to be able to be a true multirole. IIRC there are one or two air forces in the world that us use the hornet exclusively for A/A. Not saying your wrong about missing out on the fun of A/G. It's just that the hornet is so capable in A/A that, especially in DCS, flying it just for A/A would be pretty great. Remember... -A/A radar with so many modes that the only planned jet in DCS that could compete is the F-14. -Larger max load possibly for AMRAAM, oh yeah ... Spamraam -Datalink for better SA in BVR and better sneak attacks (something normally better for Russian AC in sim) -JHMCS for WVR combat -Aim-9x... -will be one of the meanest dogfight/knifefight turn fighters -while usually meant for SEAD, decoys may be used to make enemies waste missiles.

WOW LOOKING GOOD! Man I can't wait for these! Personally I'm ok with how long the dust lingers. As long as we get good smoke FX!

It's pretty involved to go back and recalculate that. But just guessing by how much extra fuel you would have available, I'd say nearly an hour.
-
The hornets loiter capability isn't the best... but it also isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I've predicted (using one of the NATOPs manuals) that if you fly in a fuel efficient manner, you can fly ~310 nm with a loiter time of 15 mins comfortably and 30 Max and make it back to base very near to the regulatory amount of fuel to have left (~1500lbs safe, 1000 getting dangerous). And that's with a heavy payload. That's cruising slow and efficient for the target area, which you wouldn't do if there were bad air defenses. But of course, if there were, then the hornet should be doing SEAD not CAS.

Ya but if you want it to follow a possible loss of the battle of Stalingrad that would have to be reversed. I'll try to type up something soon and PM ya. In the meantime, you need your helper for building missions. Anyone else interested?

Standard CAP and intercepts. To protect ground forces, by then ED might have the Ju 88 out. Interceptions of enemy bombers might be a good change of pace for allied fighters. Plus maybe we could have some shipping bombing missions. All that's not counting possible random attacks by enemy fighters to worry about. The Caucasus' mountains could be very interesting for trying to avoid heavy air defenses.
-
Could do that, or just leave the Russian ground forces out completely and just say that the Russian forces were pushed out of the area. Then just use soviet spitfires every now and then for AI flights. The campaign would revolve around finding and destroying convoys trying to transport oil out of the area as well as destroying oil fields. Destroying oil fields would be a good excuse for B-17 escort missions.
-
I can try to help with that too, don't have the f86 but could help with story if needed. P-51 I already have an idea. Could be an alternate scenario where the Russians loose the battle of Stalingrad and the Germans push into the Caucasus for Oil supply. Cutting this oil supply becomes necessary for the allies and so they deploy to the area to support the soviets. Could be interesting.
-
Wouldn't be a bad idea so it doesn't overlap with theirs.
-
I have the P-51 and Normandy so I could help test missions as well. Were you thinking historical or fictional? I would recommend fictional as Bunyap sims and Wags are already working on a P-51 campaign based off historical missions.
-
Hmm... I wouldn't mind putting some ideas out there! Do you mean overall story, events, or dialogue? The first two I could help with, Not sure about "proper" pilot lingo though.
-
My schedule is too chaotic to do it, although I'd love to if I were good at making missions. You should probably post what kind of aircraft you were thinking of making a campaign for, as well as what map and any other relevant info. Hope you and whoever helps can make it happen! :)

Play as ground units multiplayer
The Black Swan replied to tangodownNZ's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Wow I missed that video somehow! Very helpful! I wish more people took advantage of CA in multi player... everyone wants to fly so it's hard... EDIT: where is the second part of this video? I can't even find this one on Matts channel? -
Please be a mig 23 Please be a mig 23 Please be a mig 23 Please be a mig 23 Please be a mig 23...

LOL I'd love to see that!!! Actually the Abrams might be good at it, with those fancy IR sensors. Then again the caliber of the machine guns might not leave much left :megalol: But good analogy.

Air Shows around the world (What is different or the same)
The Black Swan replied to mvsgas's topic in Chit-Chat
I have actually put my hand on a harm that had a brown stripe on it on an F-16. So yes... I have been to a variety of Air Force, National Guard, and Marine bases for airshows. Not sure about navy though. EDIT: the exhaust covers thing I may be remembering wrong, as it might have been the antique non-flying displays without them.
