  1. My wallet is not going to like me in the future with all these great planes and maps coming out in the next 1-2 years. Can't wait to fly this thing and shoot ground targets - and finally in a WWII map with period AI units :joystick: Great work so far
  2. Just tried out the server - looks very promising and fun! Didn't get to play too long yet, but will definitely try it out more. It makes me want to spend more time on the NTTR map too.
  3. That should be a fun module once it's finished! Keep up the good work RAZBAM! Carrier ops should be fun with this, the F-14 and A-6 coming out in the future. Now we need some USSR carrier jets as full-fidelity modules...
  4. I voted no, but like a lot of others it's a conditional no. If we had an appropriate map where COIN operations were plausible, I think this would be an interesting turboprop to fly. In the current DCS environment, I think there would be other aircraft that would be better to have sooner rather than later, most of them mentioned earlier in the thread. If you have the resources, it would be awesome to have a full-fidelity "Red" plane to fly. There are tons of options like the early Mig's or Su's (either fighters or fighter-bombers) or even some newer jets to compete with the upcoming Western jets in development currently. I love a lot of the western jets in development, but it would be great to see a full-blown Soviet design to compete!
  5. Man, you could pass that off as a real photo! Nice pics!

    DCS: F-5E!

Well one thing they are going to be working on in the future is better flames/explosion effects (I think for DCS 2.5 if I'm not mistaken), which they definitely need. With the way explosions look right now, napalm wouldn't look very good nor would it likely to be modeled properly. Once they have the new effects, hopefully they would revisit creating napalm. I think napalm would be good to have for all the reasons mentioned above. Plus, I think it would look cool on MP server where you are flying CAP and then see a big fireball off in the distance - if you're the one dropping the napalm, you better get out quick because you just brought a lot of attention to yourself!
  7. Some online pics on the Open Conflict server
  8. Make sure that you turn on the switches to give the guns electrical power (they are on the right side) when you are going through the cold start procedure. Once you have the engine running and everything, you need to push and hold the three buttons (1-2 seconds for the 23 mm and 3 seconds for the 37 mm) on the top left of the dash - it is a small box that is sticking up by the canopy. After that, the 3 gun lights should be lit. The in-game cold start tutorial does not tell you to push those three buttons if I remember correctly. Hopefully that fixes your problem! EDIT: here is a pic of the gun-loading box I am talking about
  9. Having a Forward Edge of Battle Area (FEBA) line would be helpful - yesterday I was sneaking up on some enemy planes and then boom, hit by ground AI. Granted, I am still new to the jet/missile arena so I don't have the best situational awareness, but I kinda forgot that might happen... As for the Danger Zone, it was definitely just the song in the movie and not a theater of operations, but it still made myself laugh in my sleep-deprived state at the time I wrote that.
  10. Think of the radar coming out of your nose as a cone - the tip of the cone is at your nose and the widest part of the cone is the furthest from you. In your case, at 80 miles from your plane, the radar cone scans 0-41,000 ft. As you get closer to your plane, the scan narrows. It is probable that at whatever range they were flying from you, they were just under the radar cone. Try flying it again and move the radar down to see if they show up. Hope that helps!
  11. Hey Mirknir, when LNS releases the F-14, are you going to change the Conflict Zone to be the Danger Zone? Sorry, I couldn't resist...
  12. I'm nearly certain that terrain is Hawaii - I've been hiking there before and looked at some aerial views that look awfully close to what NRG-Vampire showed us.... Could be wrong though, but either way all of those shots are amazing.
  13. Wow, those are absolutely stunning! We need water effects like that as standard - I've often thought the base water textures look a bit like plastic from far away, but your pics make it look very real! Good job to whoever modded that, must have taken a while!
  14. I think that should be close to what the houses look like (though the trees are a bit darker than they should be I think) - I hope they do make the building textures "dirtier" as it would look more authentic. Either way, I'm just excited to have this map coming our way!
  15. Now that we will be getting the Normandy map with period AI units/targets on the ground, anyone happen to know if Combined Arms will work with those units? Maybe SiTh has more information? I haven't purchased CA at this point since newer ground units don't really do it for me, but I guarantee I would buy CA instantly if it meant I could command WWII tanks and other vehicles. If there aren't plans to have this happen on launch of the new map/units, I could understand that, but I would hope ED would seriously consider this for the future as I'm sure there are lots of other people would would do the same as myself. Anyways, food for thought!
  16. Looks good Racoon! Can't wait for the Normandy map and the spit to come out!
  17. Some pics from an early morning sortie on the Georgian Springs server. Pictures can't quite capture it as well as it truly is when playing, but it's still stunning!
  18. Sounds like a good plan Rob! That will make it a truly awesome server once there are bombers, transport aircraft, naval ops, etc all on the same map! Oh and I did find that AWACS plane today - took a while to get to it but took it down. I tried to investigate the carrier and DD, but promptly got a missile in my face, haha. Anyways, good work on the server!
  19. Hey Rob, sorry to repeat this question again from the other page - any chance you might add some big air targets for both sides to hunt down? Either recon aircraft or bombers (not sure we have good AI bombers for Korean War era though). It would be fun to chase after a recon plane being escorted by several fighters and have that be one of the objectives. Either way, good work on the server, that non-confrontational AI bug seemed to be going around to all the servers, so I will have to hop onto your server to try it out again!
  20. Well, which one you buy first will be up to what you like more - mainly an interceptor or a multi-role fighter? The F-86 would probably be the best to get first because you can do many more things with it - dogfight (using guns and early missiles) or ground attack using bombs, rockets or both in the same payload. It's very easy to start up and fun to fly. The Mig technically can bomb, but it has a very limited bomb load (small bombs) so it isn't very useful to ground pound (though the 37 mm cannon can take out some vehicles). It can rip other planes apart with its big cannons, plus it sounds awesome firing them. I personally enjoy flying the Mig more but it's hard to explain why - to me it feels more rugged, somewhat unforgiving, but so satisfying when you out maneuver a F-86 and hear the cannon thud-thud and see your target go up in flames. I got both of them in a bundle so it was cheaper. In the end you can't go wrong with either plane as they are both a joy to fly!
  21. Hey Rob, good server you have going there! One question though - any chance you can add AI bombers/big recon aircraft? I like flying the Mig-15 and think it would be fun to scramble to intercept one of those, especially at high altitude with fighter escort. Not sure if there would be any good options for AI ground attackers either. Just tossing out ideas - I know it's a lot of work doing what you do, so I just appreciate having a good F-86 vs Mig-15 era server as it is currently! Cheers!
  22. Looking good! Can't wait to see aerial shots. But I have to ask (if you're allowed to comment), is the Spit as hard to fly as Yo-Yo implied it would be back when it was announced? I'm just getting into this sim but I like a good challenge!
